Six : Any better Spec Ops Shows?

Any better Spec Ops Shows?

Per the title, any better special ops shows out there?

Cheers mate!

Re: Any better Spec Ops Shows?

What's wrong with this one?

The Unit was not bad.

Re: Any better Spec Ops Shows?

Because it's a daytime soap opera shown at night, Dynasty, Falcons crest and that other one. It's a womans show.

Re: Any better Spec Ops Shows?

Is that why you watch it wearing lip stick??

Re: Any better Spec Ops Shows?

Just because it shows some of their personal lives and isn't complete action from start to finish doesn't make it a soap opera.

And these guys would need to make a hell of a lot more money to be a comparison to the specific ones you mentioned.

Maybe if they were all contractors and their wives were all supermodels?

Yeahstill a no.

Re: Any better Spec Ops Shows?

Might be hard to believe but some of those guys have families and leaving on frequent missions causes issues that may affect them on the job.

If you want to see military life without families, ask them to make a show about service academies.

Re: Any better Spec Ops Shows?

Still a soap opera making every character has drama, half the show is more on back stories and personal life.

All the great shows focus on a character or 2's personal drama but stay on course and plot.

This show won't make it, it's a womans soap opera. Only way this show makes it is if there's a large woman audience.

Re: Any better Spec Ops Shows?

Not a soap opera till there's amnesia, love triangle, and 1 shooting per series. So it already violated soap opera status.

Re: Any better Spec Ops Shows?

We've had shootings, we have a potential love triangle with the 1 wife and her co-worker. We've had amnesia when the 1 charcter didn't know where he was at after being knocked unconscious. Defend the show all you want but it won't make it.

This show may have made a good movie but the writers wanted to go deep indepth on it's characters.

Re: Any better Spec Ops Shows?

If its renewed, and the audience is majority male will you admit you don't know what the blue hell you're talking about and are kind of a douchey, useless troll?

Re: Any better Spec Ops Shows?

I really liked The Unit (I was already a fan of Haney's book before the show was released). I did feel that, at times, the home life aspect bogged that show down. I've heard similar complaints about Six, but the home front does have an impact on their lives. Including that in the series provides rounder characters.

Re: Any better Spec Ops Shows?

Yeah. It's a tough line to tow.

I like the action, but I also like seeing how they have to juggle what is essentially two worlds. And even though they love the people in their life (for the most part), the military world really pulls at them more. It's like they want to have this concept of a normal home life but they can't wait to go back and fight with their brothers, (maybe in some ways, because it's less complicated and easier to navigate).

Re: Any better Spec Ops Shows?

Yes. Even though they don't paint the military life in black and white, there's a certain simplicity to that life. There are experiences that only their team understands, that they can't share with their families. Home life seems to get a lot more complicated with how they're trying provide what their families need (financially and emotionally), while not having the kind of traditional, predictable job that provides stability. It creates tension and drama, but the situations are believable.

Re: Any better Spec Ops Shows?

I agree.

Re: Any better Spec Ops Shows?

The Unit and a little known one season wonder called The E Ring. AWESOME! Benji Bratt and Dennis Hopper who plays a General(Colonel?) in the Pentagonwell, I might add.
Both are about Delta Force which is far more interesting than SEALS because Delta does a lot of plain clothes espionage too.

Re: Any better Spec Ops Shows?

I know about The Unit. Hadn't heard about the other one. Will have to check it out.

Re: Any better Spec Ops Shows?

Strike Back is my favourite so far. Ill watch this for a while yet to see.

Re: Any better Spec Ops Shows?

Sorry, I always forget to check comments on my threads.

What's wrong with it? - It is an ok show, but the drama really bogs down what could be a great show. Inter-unit drama as a focal point when these guys really do need to trust each other and they, from what I am told (not a veteran, know a few combat vets) bond stronger than any. This show has none of that. All military front line units have a sense of humor and vulgarity not portrayed at all. The home front scenes are boring as hell, and the show is really tame for today's standards.

I guess I shouldn't have asked for "better" spec ops shows, but any. Especially if they are more realistic. I'm guessing there aren't any out there, but I figured I'd ask.

One of my combat vet friends always recommends Generation Kill as possibly the most realistic show out there. I've seen it several times. Great show, but for anyone looking for a show about combat, this really isn't it. There is some, yes, but not much. The show is more about the hurry-up-and-wait stupidity of the military and the inane things they do to pass the time. Also about the bond between them all.

Cheers mate!

Re: Any better Spec Ops Shows?

yeah it's a soapwith some guns mixed in, the selection was reality TV but more closely related to job at hand.

I am Soldier was a good film on SAS regiment candidatescheck it out.

Re: Any better Spec Ops Shows?

The Unit and I Am Soldier…
SIX started out ok, realism was pretty good, Army backed it (The use of 169th SOAR helicopters)… Then it went off target, put the CIA lady on missions she wouldn't be on etc.. The family lives were used to show how Tangos would attack families, problems guys have back home etc… That's ok if it doesn't get overly soap operaishy.
I did like it happening in the Balkans, they landed and operated out of Eagle Base (Tuzla Airfield) where I spent some time so that was cool
