One Day at a Time : Norman Lear Needs to Do Everyone a Favor and Retire

Norman Lear Needs to Do Everyone a Favor and Retire

I just saw the trailer. It looks so bad. Norman Lear needs to retire and stop recycling the same crap. This is essentially a generic "latino" family with a struggling single mom trying to hold it together, the same tired multigenerational problems, the witty [read this as obnoxious] kids, and the outdated, but well meaning grandma. Also, it seems that Rita Moreno who is Puerto Rican is now Hollywood's go-to-Cuban mother even though she's not even Cuban. In fact, there's only one Cuban-American performer in the entire cast. This is a series that's supposed to be about a Cuban-American family, but evidentally, they can't find Cuban American actors even though Hollywood is full of Cuban-American actors! Go figure.

By the way, I can't believe that Rita won an Oscar once, her falsetto Cuban accent is just so bad, its crinch worthy! Ah, but leave it up to Norman Lear who polluted TV back in the 70's with programs that were supposed to be pollitcally correct, [but were essentially insulting to the group he was portraying] to come up with this crap. No doubt, this will turn into another platform, so that he can push his "leftist" agenda. But as the saying goes, "you can't teach an old dog new tricks," and Lear who was born in 1922 and is over 90 is as old as they come and not just in physical age, but in ideas!

Re: Norman Lear Needs to Do Everyone a Favor and Retire

Even qae pasa is better than this mess, this is already an early candidate for one of the years worst television.

Normar lear needs to just retire.
The Two Party system sucks ass and always will

Vote libertarian or Constitution party

Re: Norman Lear Needs to Do Everyone a Favor and Retire

I look forward to this viewing show, and then judging it.

Re: Norman Lear Needs to Do Everyone a Favor and Retire

In NYC we have a name for many of the people posting here. No need to post it, because none of you will get it. And Miss Moreno is one of an elite group of artists who have won all the awards (EGOT) in competition.

Re: Norman Lear Needs to Do Everyone a Favor and Retire

Y'know, it's funny, but even in the environment of hackneyed politically-motivated hatchet jobs like this amoral and unapologetic partisan attack, I can find SOMETHING upon which to agree.

Norman would be doing other WRITERS a favor by retiring because, if he has anything to do with writing this series, he's making other sitcom writers LOOK BAD!!!

Leave it to a probably out-of-legitimate-work Trump voter like Raysand to watch a TRAILER and think he knows more about comedy writing than Norman Lear, a man who is beloved by anyone with a heart and a brain.

The insulted parties whom Raysand insults by speaking FOR THEM must not have much to say about Lear's shows since there have been very few examples of such people, if any, throughout history..and Norman's been a part of American history since before what I think it's safe to assume paid political blogger stooges like Raysand were born.

Love is like breathing. You have to take some in and let it out to live.

Re: Norman Lear Needs to Do Everyone a Favor and Retire

@Scoey, now that you got that out of your system, perhaps you can use this forum for what it was meant to be used, a review of performers, producers, directors, shows and movies, instead of turning this into an ad hominem attack from start to finish.

Funny statement since everyone I know who voted for Trump works a job. Full time. But I do know a couple who voted for Hilary who think working the system is somehow the same thing.

Re: Norman Lear Needs to Do Everyone a Favor and Retire

Except you are 100% wrong and this is one of the most highly reviewed comedies on television in recent memory

Re: Norman Lear Needs to Do Everyone a Favor and Retire

So, I'm 100% wrong? I went to the link that you provided and the first review that I came up upon pretty much agreed with me. The Show is not funny and its another one of Lear's political platforms. See here:

By Ken Tucker from Yahoo TV

"In a new Netflix reboot, the 1970s sitcom One Day at a Time has been reimagined as the story of a Cuban-American family in present-day Los Angeles. Its warm, its goodhearted, it sends out positive messages. What it isnt is funnyThe show has been reconceived by veteran producer Norman Lear along with producers Gloria Calderon Kellett and Mike Royce to accommodate debates about such topics as immigration and deportation, the struggles of our armed-services veterans, and the efficacy of antidepressants. Too often, the show is like a Bill OReilly Talking Points Memo, but with reverse-politics and a laugh track. (Come to think of it, OReillys Memos could use a laugh track.)"

Re: Norman Lear Needs to Do Everyone a Favor and Retire

Okay, the NYC name is *beep* idiot.

Re: Norman Lear Needs to Do Everyone a Favor and Retire

That's a lot of opinion after just watching a trailer. How about actually watching an episode before forming an opinion. I know, I know, what a radical idea.

Re: Norman Lear Needs to Do Everyone a Favor and Retire

@izay142. How do you know that I didn't watch the show? I know, I know, you're responding to my original comment that was posted on January 1st before the show premiered, so its too radical an idea for you to assume that I watched it after and besides it just easier to mindlessly shoot from the hip. Guess what? I watched the show and I stand by what I said.

By the way, one reviewer [who, saw it, if that's not to radical an idea for you to absorb] said it was so unfunny that it was comparable to watching Bill O'Reilly.

Re: Norman Lear Needs to Do Everyone a Favor and Retire

Truth be told, I'd never heard of him before looking at these message boards and seeing yourself and others attack him. After a trailer, no less. I very much enjoyed this show, so thank you for naming this guy so I can check out some of his other work.

Re: Norman Lear Needs to Do Everyone a Favor and Retire

@mmdk5. WUNDERBAR! Since you've been living under a rock for most of your life, and have never heard of Norman Lear, let me help you along in your little journey to discover him. Check out some of his of his other programs. Look for: All in the Family, The Jeffersons, Good Times, Sanford and Son, and of course the original One Day at a Time, etc

Re: Norman Lear Needs to Do Everyone a Favor and Retire

Some people only watch the shows, not everyone knows who the producers, directors, etc. are.
