James Bond : Wow! Have you read the announcement from IMDb?

Wow! Have you read the announcement from IMDb?

If it's true and nobody hacked the board system to spread "fake news" (Kellyanne, are you out there somewhere?), then I herewith bid farewell to you, effective in the near future. I have been avoiding Facebook etc. like the plague so far and will continue to do so. I may decide to join the message board on MI6 or something at some time, but will take a sabbatical until then.

In that case, thanks for 12 years of company.

The end of an era, I wonder where some of us will go.

Re: Wow! Have you read the announcement from IMDb?

Devastating.
I hope it is fake.

Re: Wow! Have you read the announcement from IMDb?

Damn,lets hope its a fake.

This is one the IMDB employee. It really is coming to an end. It's a shame.

Re: Wow! Have you read the announcement from IMDb?

You know it wasn't until I registered as an IMDB user did I know there was a disgusting fickle, disrespectful, group of millennial Bond "fans" until I came here, so that's one thing IMDB got right - opening my eyes to the sordid Sodom and Gomorrah world of millennials.

Piss off.

Re: Wow! Have you read the announcement from IMDb?

Odd, considering I'm on ignore.

Re: Wow! Have you read the announcement from IMDb?

MI6, Absolutely James Bond and CBN - all good Bond forums. Worth checking them out.

Re: Wow! Have you read the announcement from IMDb?

What an utter delight you are, Damienracer.

Re: Wow! Have you read the announcement from IMDb?

Definitely the end of an era. Hope to run across you guys again sometime.

Who says violence is not the answer?

Re: Wow! Have you read the announcement from IMDb?

It's upsetting news.

As I've posted in a thread of my own, anyone is free to private message me if they wish to stay in contact. You can also e-mail me at the new account I just set up at gmail: thesharkfromjaws007@gmail.com

I'll be posting probably at either Mi6 or reddit if IMDB does proceed to discontinue the boards. But for now I'm staying here until the end.

Re: Wow! Have you read the announcement from IMDb?

I think its real, and I think its sad, and I think folks are misguided if they think facebook is the right medium for our sort of stuff. Then again, I suspect this board is the opposite of the ones that they feel are counterproductive, and is instead "collateral damage").

FWIW, I have been inspired to jon CBn, so we'll see how that goes. (You can find me there as.drumroll please.pking-3). It may be a bit of a siloed graveyard, but then again if the right ones of y'all follow my suit we could probably rescue it, at least to a satisfactory degree.)

Re: Wow! Have you read the announcement from IMDb?

I'm on CBn as JohnnyWalker. It may sound like the worst name on purpose but I never do anything on purpose.

Re: Wow! Have you read the announcement from IMDb?

And I'm on MI6 (right now, even) as.pking_3.

Though any site too feeble to support hyphens in names has my suspicion already. But I will keep my chin up and try.

Re: Wow! Have you read the announcement from IMDb?

It's been a sad turn of events. I do know of other James Bond forums like MI6 and Commander Bond.net so I may join there. Good luck all of you. It's been a pleasure sharing the love of all things James Bond.

What we do in life, echoes in eternity.

Re: Wow! Have you read the announcement from IMDb?

Can't say anything negative about the others, but was pleasantly surprised by my reception at MI6-HQ. So I recommend that one.

Re: Wow! Have you read the announcement from IMDb?

Definitely heartbreaking and upsetting news. I always enjoyed the Bond forum and being able to discuss individual films and programs on their respective boards.

I think this is a huge mistake on IMDb's part. I am not a facebook guy. I have no interest in it. This diaspora will not lead me there.

I already have accounts under a different moniker with CBn, ajb007.co.uk, and possibly mi6-hq. They have all been great and fun but I always found the IMDb community to be unique and more fulfilling, if that makes sense. I may try and change my moniker to this one.

It is a damn shame, as I was planning on starting a thread regarding Bond 16 (Pre-LTK) dealing with The Golden Triangle, another one dealing with Hong Kong, and earlier incarnations of Bond 17. I was able to finally get my hands on the treatments/screenplays.

I am going to miss this board and many good people here. While we all had different ideas and opinions, we were able to have wonderfully spirited debates and great dialogue.

Cheers and Good Journey!

That's splendid! Don't get lost.

Several of us have migrated to Mi6 Community, ring. You're more than welcome to join us. They need someone to tell them about being a REAL fan. Plus talking SP just won't be the same without you.

Check pking's thread to start your move, if you wish.

Me become a migrant? Perish the thought.

Well okay, you twisted my arm. I shall look into it.

Instead of wayward migration, consider characterizing it as infusion of talent.

Re: Wow! Have you read the announcement from IMDb?

Damn. Sad news indeed. I was really happy when I found out that there was an active message board for 007 movies other than the individual movie's boards, and now I'm disappointed that IMDb is taking down one of their major features.

Is this MI6 message board any good or kind of half dead already? Anyway, it's been good, guys. See you around!

Re: Wow! Have you read the announcement from IMDb?

The tragedy of closing these forums is that all the chats, knowledge and the people who made it what it was, will be lost.

I recall hearing a user using the Fahrenheit 451 analogy and he's right. I know IMDb already deletes very old posts but after the 20th, every single piece of film/tv knowledge -whether big or small- that's discussed on these boards gets metaphorically burned. We live in the 21st Century where the internet is everyone's encyclopedia and this is the first time that I recall something so vast and important getting swiped away. It sounds dumb but that's the truth.

I hope everyone reading this continues to talk about James Bond on other platforms after the deletion. It would be a shame to end the (for the most part) educated and long-read posts that we were accustomed to writing out. IMDb is far superior to FB, which is what they recommended. No idea how we are meant to discuss things there (how would a lengthy conversation even look?! *shudders*). Anyway au revoir, I have the oddest feeling we'll be meeting again sometime ;) (TSWLM)

The name's Bond, James Bond.

Russ,

I posted this comment on another board. It relates to what you posted.

The IMBD forums were part of the birth of the internet. They've been around since the start of the net - since the late 1990s when the net really began to impact on popular culture - so it's sort of a piece of internet history. Removing the boards is a great shame. Part of internet online forum history will be gone.:(

History of IMDB message boards - Wikipedia:

One of the most-used features of the Internet Movie Database is the message boards that coincide with every title and name entry, along with over 140 main boards. This section is one of the more recent features of IMDb, having its beginnings in 2001. In order to post on the message boards a user needs to "authenticate" their account via cell phone, credit card, or by having been a recent customer of the parent company Amazon.com. Message boards have expanded in recent years. The Soapbox started in 1999 is a general message board meant for debates on any subject.

Re: Wow! Have you read the announcement from IMDb?

Just wanted to pop in and say that this board was probably one of the sanest, most balanced on IMDB. Used to come a few years back when Craig ignited my interest in Bond again.

Bye, bye and hope you all find a new place to hang out and continue discussing Bond well into your dotage!

Re: Wow! Have you read the announcement from IMDb?

I just read the announcement.
While I have not been actively posting in this forum for a long time I still have read the topics.

I would hate to "lose you" J W Pepper. Really.

I am on MI6 Community as BondJasonBond006 and have become one of the most active contributors there since July 2015.

Please join them if you haven't already. It's such a good place and you would be a great addition!

Thank you for considering. Best regards, Jason

I used to post here as notthatbluestuff - I made several of the old Bond Movie Meter threads although I wasn't the first to do it. I've signed up to AbsolutelyJamesBond. Actually I signed up there in June last year but only now in light of this news will I post there frequently.
