Children and Family Films : MARY POPPINS
Re: MARY POPPINS
It's a joy to watch and it really prefigures the flower-power years, doesn't it? There are lots of touches and themes that seem to belong with the "summer of love". The way the children and the rampant, colourful imagination are extolled and set against the stupid bankers and their "cold, boring money", the anarchist vibe of the chimney sweepers and the circus horses, the touches of nonsense language and so on - all of those are out of English children's books tradition of course but the way they are fused here makes it look almost like Yellow Submarine.

When I was little I wanted to watch that movie every week. Love it.

Re: Mary Poppins (1964)
I rate it 9/10. I like Saving Mr. Banks (2013) better though. I rate that movie 10/10.

Re: MARY POPPINS
For some reason I disliked this movie as a kid. I think I just thought it was too long for the kind of plot that it had. I re-watched it (well most of it) last December and I liked it a lot. Still nothing I would watch on a regular basis though.
Re: MARY POPPINS
I've appreciated this more since watching 'Saving Mr Banks. I like the way that the tune to 'Feed The Birds' is often played poignantly in the background to some of the more thoughtful scenes in 'Mary Poppins.'
