Slow West : Bad Company

Bad Company

If you are interested in this type of movie I saw an interesting one. Its called Bad Company in 1972.

Its about am Ohio teenager who runs away from the Civil War Draft. He ends up on the frontier and is clueless like Jay. He falls in with a bunch of other young runaways led by Jeff Bridges. They get in deeper and deeper trouble.

Eventually the protagonist and Jeff Bridges are the only survivors. One goes with a gang and the other joins a sheriff in hunting the other one down.

Re: Bad Company

Bad Company had the same anachronistic firearm problem, with 1873 revolvers being used by Civil War era westerners, but aside from that, Bad Company is miles above this. At least that movie actually felt like it could have taken place in the real West, and not in some post-modern ironic type guy's imagination.

Re: Bad Company

At least the rifles were single shot ones reflecting 1863. Also the gun battle showing wildly inaccurate shooting and even cowardly behavior was more realistic.

Re: Bad Company

The coat Ben Mendelsohn wore was reminiscent (probably intentionally) of that worn by David Huddleston in Bad Company.

Re: Bad Company

I've always maintained that Bad Company should've just taken place in the 1880s. Sure, they would have lost the whole draft dodger aspect, but that was always kind of on the nose for the time anyway. The guns, costumes and mention of Curly Bill Brocious all point to the 1880s.
