The Middle : I like April, and I'm glad Axl's defending his girl!
Re: I like April, and I'm glad Axl's defending his girl!
Not I.
I cheered when Mike told Axl off as it needed to be done.
The whole April character needs to be written off the show, IMO.

Re: I like April, and I'm glad Axl's defending his girl!
I actually found what Mike said to be unacceptable. I'm on Axl's side on this. His mom/family insults his girlfriend and he shouldn't just brush it off. I hope Axl's stands firm on this.
Re: I like April, and I'm glad Axl's defending his girl!
April is dumb. But so is Axl.
If I were Frankie and Mike, I would immediately cut off ALL financial support.

Re: I like April, and I'm glad Axl's defending his girl!
Mike and Frankie don't have to like April, but I hope Axl doesn't come running back to his mommy & daddy! He needs to stand firm since Axl has every right to be upset!
Re: I like April, and I'm glad Axl's defending his girl!
The April character is sooo stupid and indefensible that it actually makes the rest of the Heck family correct. Blame the writers for creating such a stupid character.
Re: I like April, and I'm glad Axl's defending his girl!
April maybe dumb, but she is a sweet girl, and being "dumb", I don't believe is a real reason to hate somebody.
Re: I like April, and I'm glad Axl's defending his girl!
Look, there is dumb, but then there is over the top dumb and just stupid. April's character is over the top dumb. I cringe everytime she says a line because it's so stupid. The Hecks not liking her is correct.
It's why I can't stand most of the comedies that are put out today. Many of the characters are so dumbed down, they are just stupid. Stupid is NOT funny. Now I do understand a character being a little dumbed-down for comedic effect but way too many these days are just too dumbed-down and stupid. It's the one thing The Middle has avoided being like the other comedies of the present, until now. I hope they get rid of that character as it insults the intelligence of their audience. I do feel bad for Greer Grammer as the show wasted her talents on this character.

Re: I like April, and I'm glad Axl's defending his girl!
That was one of the few times I have liked Axl. I hope he stands firm as well. I got news for The Heck's. He isn't too good for April.
Re: I like April, and I'm glad Axl's defending his girl!
April doesn't bother me. Some think she's only pretending to be so stupid, and that's a possibility, but I don't think that's the case. Axl is not too smart himself, so I think Frankie's wrong that he's too good for her.
Even though I'd be okay with her sticking around, I'm thinking that this whole "love of his life" thing may just be a season eight plotline instead of being permanent.

I can see both sides on this debate,
Axl choosing between April or his family during this difficult time for all of them. You have a show with some real conflict and emotion that a real family could identify with these conflicts.
Charlie's acting in the conflict scene between Axl and Mike was fantastic!

April brought this show to a new level. The crappy but happy familiy isn't that happy anymore. And I think a lot of people can relate to them about what is happening now. Axl is choosing his own life, while Frankie and Mike still wants to guide him.
Re: I like April, and I'm glad Axl's defending his girl!
April may suffer from some disability which could be the reason of how forgetful and stupid she is. Especially forgetful.
Re: I like April, and I'm glad Axl's defending his girl!
If April is really that stupid, Axl is wearing rose-colored glasses which will fade. One day he'll wake up and won't be able to take her idiocy anymore. But, if he knows more about her than his family, and she truly is the love of his life, he should defend her. The problem is they're not engaged yet. Boy/girlfriends come and go, but families are forever.
-And it looks to me like April is faking the stupidity, so we'll see how this plays out.

Re: I like April, and I'm glad Axl's defending his girl!
IMO it doesn't matter that they aren't engaged. If he sees a future with her he isn't going to behave one way up until the point when they are engaged and another afterward. He made a point of introducing her to his family and it was important to him that they like her. He wanted her in the family photo ect. He doesn't see her as someone who is going to "come and go".
Re: I like April, and I'm glad Axl's defending his girl!
You're right, he doesn't. But until he makes it official, she's not part of the family. She's just a girlfriend, no matter how he feels about her. His family should not be expected to treat every boy or girlfriend who pops up as a new member of the family and include them in "family" photos. If he felt they're close to an engagement, all he had to do was show his mother and father respect and tell them. He didn't. He talked back to his father and bad-mouthed his mother. He can certainly defend his girl without showing such disrespect.
He doesn't see her as someone who is going to "come and go".
I don't know if the show is getting better, or what, but there seems to be a lot more debate on it lately, lol.
Re: I like April, and I'm glad Axl's defending his girl!
I don't know many people who tell their parents they "feel they're close to an engagement" before it happens and I can't see Axl doing it.
IMO the way he introduced her showed that she's someone very special to him. I don't think being close to an engagement is so much the issue. I know many couples who are not engaged but who's SE's are considered part of the family. IMO Axel's actions clearly show that he thinks they are at that stage. It's not like he's ever tired to include a girlfriend in a family photo before.

Re: I like April, and I'm glad Axl's defending his girl!
Interesting that people complain about April being such an unrealistic character, and yet somehow she has touched off one of the most realistic plotlines in the show's history.
It would be funny if April revealed she was faking her stupidity, started to act normal, and then Axl didn't like her anymore.
If she is faking her stupidity (and I don't think she is), maybe her mother taught her to do it to attract men - sort of like Marilyn Monroe's bubbleheaded blonde character.

Re: I like April, and I'm glad Axl's defending his girl!
I don't hate April at all. I hate how over the top stupid the writers have made her since this is supposedly Axl's "love of his life" but April seems like a good kid at heart.
Re: I like April, and I'm glad Axl's defending his girl!
To be fair, he's only defending her because she couldn't do it herself. If she didn't know she could breath then she'd need to be told to.
Re: I like April, and I'm glad Axl's defending his girl!
I have never made up my own opinion on her
Re: I like April, and I'm glad Axl's defending his girl!
Brick and Sue are decent people and even their characters cannot accept someone so dumb for their brother. It's like caring for a toddler. A woman who would act THAT dumb for some higher reason is manipulative and he should run. She's a pod person.
Re: I like April, and I'm glad Axl's defending his girl!
If Axl wants to act bratty and stupid over a girl that he may only be with temporarily, then so be it. His parents, or the other children should just leave him alone, cut him off financially, and have him fend for himself. They were way too tolerant (especially Frankie) of his behavior in the past, his selfishness whining, his bullying of his sister, and that constant yelling, which is unnerving.
