Film Noir : The Chase finally restored

The Chase finally restored

It seems The Chase has finally received a restoration from UCLA, released from Kino Blu-Ray!

I've only seen an avi file of it.

Re: The Chase finally restored

I reviewed it a while ago after I saw it on youtube. That copy is pretty bad, I always wanted to see it cleaned up because it has beautiful cinematography.

Re: The Chase finally restored

I have the blu-ray at home, but I still need to give it a spin to see how much it advances over the online version I watched.

Re: The Chase finally restored

I watched the blu-ray last night, and the difference between the murky online version I previously watched and this one is night and day. It's not a great restoration with quite a few traces of damage left, but it's pretty good and it does really bring out the excellent cinematography (as well as how great the sets are designed and propped). A solid release for a fairly unique, dream-like noir.

Re: The Chase finally restored

Sounds good. Then I'll buy it.

Re: The Chase finally restored

Hi Jess,

Is that the Pete Lorre film? If so, it will be great to see that on Blu-ray. I've seen it on YouTube, the visual is pretty good, but there is an incredibly annoying hiss on the audio.

Pretty good film. The scene with the dog in the wine cellar(near the beginning)has stayed with me for a while, proving that what is not shown but heard can be just as disturbing as seeing something.

Hope the Blu-ray will be available as a region 2 disc.

Go to bed Frank or this is going to get ugly .

Re: The Chase finally restored

Peter Lorre is in it, yes, but I'd call it a Steve Cochran film. :)

The youtube version is OK on small screen, but if you go full screen it gets very fuzzy. I don't see it available on Amazon UK yet.

But it's a Robert Cummings movie!, said no one ever...

I am glad I went region free with my blu-ray player, but yes, it would be nice if a UK label licensed this one (also because Kino almost never adds any subtitles...). Too many movies get only a region A (or B) release.

True. Cummings was one of these actors that are usually pleasant and nice-looking but ultimately bland. Cummings vs Cochran, no contest.
