James Bond : Which is the best torture scene in the Bond series?
Re: Which is the best torture scene in the Bond series?
Casino Royale.
Also the laser scene in GF, if we count that as torture.

Re: Which is the best torture scene in the Bond series?
In the film series, the torture scene in CASINO ROYALE stands head-and-shoulders above the rest. It's real full-on, balls-out entertainment. I'll bet there isn't a guy alive who doesn't suffer some degree of "contraction" whilst watching that
However, the novel series by Ian Fleming and others regularly eclipses anything seen in the film series. With a particular nod to BROKENCLAW by John Gardner.

CR
Now, this is a signature gun, and that is an optical palm reader.
Re: Which is the best torture scene in the Bond series?
CR is certainly the most brutally realistic torture scene in the Bond seriesand is taken almost verbatim from the novel.
The most famous one, thouh is, Goldfinger's laser from Goldfinger.

How so?
The actual tool of torture is completely different. As are several other factors.

Don't be a carpet beater now.
It's pretty close. As hyperbole on this board goes, "almost verbatim" is discreet.

I'll try not to balls it up too much.
In any case, don't mind me
It's probably just because I'm currently re-reading - and immensely enjoying - the original IF novels. They're all so sharp and fresh in my mind.

Re: Which is the best torture scene in the Bond series?
Well, all things considered the film CLOSELY matches the book for the torture and its setup. It's a huge surprise the filmmakers took it on full force the way they did and as I said even improved on it.
Variations for the carpet beater versus the monkeyfist, and how the ending plays out with OO7 provoking his torturer to lose control are something to relish. And Casino Royale is my favorite Fleming novel.

Re: Which is the best torture scene in the Bond series?
The film version of CASINO ROYALE is nowhere near the quality of the novel. 007 provoking his torturer in the film is simply ridiculous and unbelievable. It's pure BS.
The novel's torture scene - and its extended aftermath - are far superior to the film version. The physical and mental anguish that Bond goes through in the novel as a result of what happened is far more effective and memorable for me.

Re: Which is the best torture scene in the Bond series?
Well obviously I disagree. There is book and there is film.
Fleming wrote realistically for how a man struggles to endure a horrific torture knowing death almost certainly will come. I respect that and it strikes a chord. It also relates to and explains Bond's actions later in the novel.
In the film, Le Chiffre is set upon from several sides and becomes more and more desperate through the story. It makes sense Bond would best him, he's out of his element. And OO7 going through those dire straits with a woman has a similar outcome.
To present it on film, the filmmakers struck their own gold visually and thematically. To me they're both very well done for their own venues.

"Well obviously I disagree."
It's obvious that we both do.
"There is book and there is film."
The book will always outshine the film, no matter how big the budget, how good the cast and crew, no matter how realistic the special effects.
As for 007's actions and responses on screen, I simply found them laughable. The scene was completely misplayed under the circumstances.
However, each to their own.

I'm surprised someone hasn't said DAD yet.
But I'm more surprised someone hasn't said that the real torture in that scene is the Madonna song. HEYO!
If you must blink, do it now.

No mention of QoS?
Who are you and what have you done with Bap?
Connery, Moore, and Brosnan! Accept NO substitutes!

Sam Smith
The Sam Smith Spectre song was torture and Daniel Craig pretending to like and endorse it (the best acting of his career) when he was clearly and rightfully visibly disgusted by Sam and his voice almost traumatized me for life.
