The Descent: Part 2 : Anyone think Part 2 is underrated?

Anyone think Part 2 is underrated?

Sure yeah it has it flaws but ever since I've seen The Descent Part 2 for the first time I always REALLLLY liked watching it. Kind if always thought it was on par with the first. For a first time film like this Jon Harris did a damn good job.

The ending was stupid, the lighting was too bright and yeah even the script and acting have its problems but there no freaking doubt this is at least a Grade B+ sequel. Especially with that nice surprise appearance of Juno at the end :) so great!

Re: Anyone think Part 2 is underrated?

Yeap! I've just finished watching it on a night shift at work (binged on horror this week) I'd not seen either Descent film in a LONG time so both were fresh to me. I hate how people feel the need to bash a film for stupid (or no) reasons. It's not perfect, the new characters didn't draw me in at all, the ending was stupid and I actually chuckled a bit at the roidy crawler near the end but it's still a *beep* good horror.

One day a real rain will come and wash the scum off the streets

Re: Anyone think Part 2 is underrated?

Agreed. The sequel could of been a hell of a lot worse. My overall biggest complaint was the fact that Part 2 felt kind of "cheap". Like the look of the film didn't look as rich and fancy as the first film did.

Any word if there making a Part 3 to this? Before I was kind of against it but for me Part 2 was good enough to warrant a sequel. They could make it darker and more action-packed for sure.

I'm surprised no young cheap director has taken on the intrest in creating a Part 3!?

Re: Anyone think Part 2 is underrated?

I just watched it last night. The Descent part 1 is one of my all-time favourite films and I wasn't really expecting much from part 2.
But I was very pleasantly surprised. After a somewhat slow start where I thought the plot was a tad clichd it really found it's pace once the team and Sarah were in the caves.
Yes, I liked it but it should stop at 2 I reckon, but I believe they're making a third sequel. Oh dear!

Re: Anyone think Part 2 is underrated?

No please no. It was *beep* The lighting alone makes it god awful.

Re: Anyone think Part 2 is underrated?

It's really not God awful. The lighting was a problem but it didn't really ruin the entire film as a whole. It's was just one of those little annoyances.

Re: Anyone think Part 2 is underrated?

I was actually pleasantly surprised with this, also.

I'm with you, though. The lighting was too bright and it definitely had a "Cheaper" feel to it.

I also didn't quite like the way the crawlers appeared here. They looked alot better in the first one.

Butoverall this was a pretty decent follow up. Considering how most sequels that are direct to video are, this was enjoyable.

It was also great how they were able to get the original cast back for this. All too often in direct to video sequels, they hardly *ever* get the original performers back. It was cool that Sarah and Juno returned with the original actresses.

I hate it when direct to video films keep the same characters but bring in a completely different performer. So yeah, I enjoyed this sequel. It could've been a whole lot worse like most direct to videos that are just made for easy profit without trying to make a good film.

This sequel was the opposite. Although not as good as the first, they actually *tried* to make a good film here. For the most part, they succeeded.

"I learned that in prison, you like? You white trash piece-a sh!t."

Re: Anyone think Part 2 is underrated?

It didn't have the amount of tension the first but it was still pretty entertaining. Not a bad sequel at all except for that ending.

SPOILERS

Totally agree with your entire post. Except on first watching, my initial response to the end was minor disappointment. I wanted Sarah's noble sacrifice to save another person's mother daughter relationship to work out.

I didn't expect to garner anything about the meaning of life from this movie. Nor did I expect to learn about how to become a cave explorer in real life. Having enjoyed the ride of watching the first, I just thought it might be fun. Morlocks on steroids. The bad IMDB score did not scare me off.

- Juno's appearance and her continuing relationship with Sarah was just one of the rewards the audience received for watching the original
- I again found myself breathing silently through my mouth as I watched the movie so I could hear the slightest sounds
- reasonably balanced amount of "jump scare" moments
- reasonably balanced amount of "can you watch the screen?" gross out moments
- heroic death scene for nice guy Greg (well 90% dead)
- gruesome death for bad guy cop
- and for me, some of the most satisfyingly predictable scenes I've watched. So many times I guessed what was going to happen, but each time, my response to seeing it play out was.. "Hell Yeah!!!!"

Great fun.

As always, wait till you are in the right mood, turn the lights off and the volume up, watch it on a big screen not your iPad, suspend disbelief.. basically just go with it if you can and have fun.

Re: Anyone think Part 2 is underrated?

No. Because of one problem. They all died at the end of the original.

Re: Anyone think Part 2 is underrated?

On its own it's a decent movie but it just can't live up to the original. The set was definitely too bright which is why I kind of chuckled when Juno said she lost her light. Everything was clearly visible.
