Tomorrowland : Deliberate exclusion of white males receiving pins…that's nice.

Deliberate exclusion of white males receiving pins…that's nice.

Nah...that would be racist behavior. (Watch the ending again)

Re: Deliberate exclusion of white males receiving pins…that's nice.

My memory may be hazy, but I'm sure that I did see them give buttons to white men. What's with the victim card?

Re: Deliberate exclusion of white males receiving pins…that's nice.

I'm a white male, and if this is all we have to complain about, then it pretty much reinforces our privilege.

Save the whining for something that actually matters, k?

You're complaining that you didn't get a free pass to a world that DOESN'T EXIST... Let's take a moment to think about the entitlement of that... Let the fictional peeps have their fun; we get most of the advantages in the real world.

"Your mother puts license plates in your underwear? How do you sit?!"

Re: Deliberate exclusion of white males receiving pins…that's nice.

Yeah how about that "racism"? Huh liberals, who are complaining about the lack of "actors of color." That ending was totally ridiculous. A kid playing a guitar on the street and a woman planting a tree on the sidewalk? Really? No people in labs or in engineering classes or something?

Re: Deliberate exclusion of white males receiving pins…that's nice.

To those of you complaining about the “deliberate exclusion of white men” given pins at the end of the movie, please watch those last scenes again. The new world order effort is led by a white man (Clooney) and a young white girl (Britt Robertson). The first person he recruits to lead this endeavor is a white man (McGraw). They amass a goodwill army to distribute pins to hopeful, bright, creative people who haven’t given up on the idea of a positive future and a willingness to help make it happen. Recipients who include men, women, adults, children, young adults, white, black, Asian, etc. In the field at the end, there are even more people than those we specifically saw finding their pins and some of those were white men.

So what exactly is your complaint? White men are well represented in that group and easily seen in that montage if you pay attention so the OP’s premise is clearly incorrect.

If the montage just went by too fast for you to see them represented the first time and upon a second viewing you realize your mistake, no harm no foul. We all make mistakes. It’s jumping to judgment before confirming our first impressions that causes trouble. If after viewing it again you still want to complain about inadequate representation of white men in this group of people leading the new world effort (again including the white men chosen to be in charge of the whole thing), then it sounds like your problem isn’t that white men aren’t included in that group of future world shapers (which they are) but rather that white men aren’t the majority of people in that group. Which means I’m sorry to say the prejudice is yours, not the filmmakers.

Oh and to the additional complaint that there were “No people in labs or in engineering classes or something?” and only “A kid playing a guitar on the street and a woman planting a tree on the sidewalk”, they showed a lot of people finding pins, including a woman involved in designing and building cars, a judge or professor, an artist, an academic working with equations, someone in the energy or utility field, a naturalist of some kind, a hiker, a dancer, another person in what looked to be an academic or professional field, and yes, a guitarist and a woman planting a tree. And if you look at the scene where they all emerge into the field and other people are revealed there as well, you’ll see a variety of attires representing different cultures and professions/industries. So I’m pretty sure most people are represented in some way. I hope you’ll decide to look again.

Re: Deliberate exclusion of white males receiving pins…that's nice.

it sounds like your problem isn’t that white men aren’t included in that group

No. That is the problem. It doesn't matter if a white man leads it - he got his pin 40+ years ago. He also doesn't think like a young man any more. They should have a young, white male in the group so that ALL races are represented and have a say in what is going on.

Re: Deliberate exclusion of white males receiving pins…that's nice.

Well again, they are. Not just the Clooney character. Casey, who is young, is white and her dad is a white man. Both are helping to run the new program. And if you watch the final scene all the way through, you can see lots of people in the field, including white men. There's only so much room on a movie screen. They did a great job of representing a little bit of everyone. No one group, white men included, needs to be a majority to have a voice.

Re: Deliberate exclusion of white males receiving pins…that's nice.

Ahhh, ok then. That's why we didn't see any white males in the scene. There wasn't enough room to show them.

Gotcha! Thanks!

Re: Deliberate exclusion of white males receiving pins…that's nice.

Uh no. We did see them. There wasn't enough room to show lots and lots of them and still show everyone else as well. Look again. Everyone was represented.

Glad I could help.

Re: Deliberate exclusion of white males receiving pins…that's nice.

just logged in to see if anyone noticed that. despicable ending. and no, i am not white.

Re: Deliberate exclusion of white males receiving pins…that's nice.

I'm white, and I'm really tired of the black man being the first or only person killed when it isn't 100% necessary - as in, a movie about MLK or he's sitting on death row.

Re: Deliberate exclusion of white males receiving pins…that's nice.

Yes that was definitely a social justice warrior ending if there ever was one. Totally excluded white men.

Re: Deliberate exclusion of white males receiving pins…that's nice.

"Deliberate exclusion of white males receiving pins"

You mean except for the main character of the entire god damn movie? That's nice.

Re: Deliberate exclusion of white males receiving pins…that's nice.

You mean the main character who received his pin 40 years ago?

Re: Deliberate exclusion of white males receiving pins…that's nice.

Oh lord. Give me a break. Where were you when thousands of films excluded pretty much any other race than white people? Where were you when so many films came out that had "white saviors?" Hmmm?

Complain about something that matters. White males already have enough privilege. Sheesh.

Time wounds all heels.

Re: Deliberate exclusion of white males receiving pins…that's nice.

It is still hypocrisy, but you are too stupid to understand that.

I was talking to one liberal moron (although saying that is redundant) about gay marriage. I said I was ok with allowing it to make it fair.

He said that to make it fair we should not allow heterosexuals to marry for the next 400 years.

I pointed out to him how stupid that was; being vindictive about something like that NEVER solves the problem.

He was also an ordained minister but I had to remind him that Christ lived 2,000 years ago and His first miracle was at the Wedding in Cana. So, if he was going to be a retard and say that heterosexuals couldn't marry, he should go full retard and not let heterosexuals marry for as long as they've been getting married.

In other words, you "think" it was wrong wrong when other races were excluded in other films but you are ok with being vindictive now.

Of course, you are an retard as well.

Re: Deliberate exclusion of white males receiving pins…that's nice.

Speaking of hypocrisy, I'd think twice about calling anyone else stupid if I were you.

The worst thing that ever happened to the movies was when some pretentious twit decided they should be art.

Re: Deliberate exclusion of white males receiving pins…that's nice.

The first person we see in the film getting a pin is Frank, a white male.

Re: Deliberate exclusion of white males receiving pins…that's nice.

FFS man. We're making movies for the world to consume now, not just Mayberry.

If you cry every time you see that token effort? Then maybe you just don't deserve happiness.

Signed,

A white, middle-aged man from the upper Midwest

Only a brain-damaged right-wing shitbag would find a political agenda in a kid's movie.
