Re: Rise in these type of films
I would have to say that this is a straight comedy.
Re: Rise in these type of films
nah its got more than a straight comedy. The emphasis on French culture, vinyl, and just the outfitting and dialogue of this film make it more than a straight comedy. Its got factors of a straight comedy in it, but it ultimately ends up as a dramedy. A straight comedy i'd say would be like Old School or something like Get Him to the Greek.

Re: Rise in these type of films
Actually this is just a "dark" comedy.
I wouldn't go as far as "hipster", though. That's a little strong.
But dark, yes.

Re: Rise in these type of films
Who are "they"? I don't really see any similarities between this and Adventureland, other than the fact that both have young people. I also don't really see Juno's influence in either film (YIR has been around as a novel for a long time now, much longer than Juno. People just choose to make bold generalizations, despite a lack of facts to support them.
Re: Rise in these type of films
Yea its a generalization. Adventureland and this are very heartfelt and the kids are intellectual. Hence Lou reed fans and now french vinyl fans. They are quite similar movies. And yea its not hipster, hipster would be like Royal Tenenbaums i'd say or darjeeling limited. But its got an off beat non mainstream feel.

Re: Rise in these type of films
What do you mean maybe Pinkerton? It has some of Weezer's best songs: "Tired of Sex", "Butterfly", "Pink Triangle", "El Scorcho"

Re: Rise in these type of films

Re: Rise in these type of films
I think there was a 'movement' in the late 00's for these hipster films where dorky white people tried to show off how quirky and unusual they are, but thankfully these films kept bombing so it was only a brief fad.
