Re: American Reich feels like real America
If you're referring to some of the laws we had in the South during the 50s and 60s (i.e. segregation, voter suppression, etc.) then yeah that is a small subset from that. Yes, the American Reich was clean and orderly but also incredibly bland and lifeless. This is even referenced in some of the TV shows and advertisements you see compared to what we really saw in America during that time. One of my favorite things about this show is seeing the differences between the two worlds in regards to popular culture. This is why I thoroughly enjoyed the final scene in season 1 where Tagomi sits down on the bench and awakens into a completely different but much more vibrant world (Baseball, Budweiser beer, the music-Chubby Checker "The Twist", the colorful billboards and signs). Very compelling scene.

No where in San Fran do they have that much squeezed into such a little area. What was just done to deliberately show a bigger and obvious contrast.

Re: American Reich feels like real America
Slightly bad?
In the Reich they gas so called racial inferiors and people with incurable, chronic disease or mental issues and dispose of the victims like garbage.
As backward as the real 1950s - 60s era US was on issues of race and human rights in some areas - it never approached Final Solution bad.
The American Reich is a shiny bland house built on a mountain of skulls of the slaughtered innocent.
And the swastika decorated US flag is an abomination.

Re: American Reich feels like real America
The show it trying to be realistic, not cartoonish. A Nazi America would have had good and bad points. The good obviously would be a much safer and orderly social structure without the rampant crime, poverty, and degeneracy that plagues modern America. The downside would perhaps be a more socially repressive culture. It is a trade off. One side isn't necessarily better than the other though the virtues of the Nazi position are becoming more apparent given the disaster that is going on in Europe right now.
Re: American Reich feels like real America
I don't know whether to laugh or face palm at this.
Re: American Reich feels like real America
I know. What an appalling attitude.
Re: American Reich feels like real America
I'm pretty sure the OP is just trolling, but I will add that S2 showed a very different aspect of the Nazi occupied America than S1 had. S2 you mostly got to see what would be the Nazi version of the suburbs where the rich and well connected lived. They had all the modern appliances available to man, and plenty of good food, polished floors, expensive furniture and yes, clean streets and low crime rate.
Only toward the end did you see a seedier portion when Dixon mentions to Juliana when speaking of New York that it "used" to be a great city. Despite all the construction that was going on in NY, it was clear that there were people living there in comparative squalor, as opposed to the Nazis. We had gotten a hint of this in S1, but had never really gotten to see how the "other half" lived so to speak. Indeed, the picture that was being painted was that of an occupied country. I personally found it extremely disturbing, but no less compelling to watch.
I'm so uglythat's ok 'cause so are you.
