This Is Us : Kate is completely insufferable.

Seriously. She's the most unlikable character on the show because all she does is whine to death. Toby obviously likes and may even love her and all she does is whine about her weight. I understand she's insecure but she's self righteous in her entitlement to wallow in self pity and that makes her dangerous. Toby bend over backwards to make her laugh and bring joy to her life and she literally tells him she will never put him first when it comes to her brother. Talk about mean. After she said her issues wont disappear overnight after she literally stalked his ex wife I would have been out the door. If she spent half the time at the gym with a personal trainer than she does whining she would lose half the weight. I have no sympathy for her. They showed one scene of her at the gym and she looked at the other women with hate. She has the money to get liposuction, bypass or any other procedure that can afford her a healthier lifestyle. Instead she's content to wallow in self pity and Toby is just suppose to deal because she's so entitled. Toby seems like a great guy and I have no idea what he sees her in her. She clearly loves her brother but their relationship is mainly co-dependency and a bit unhealthy. At least Kevin had the good foresight to not have her move to New York with him.

So. it's really about her weight.

Again. less time whining and more time at the gym. She will lose the weight.

Why focus on the weight as an opportunity to dismiss an actor or her character when it's a rare opportunity to get inside someone else's skin and see what life is like from their perspective?

I think you're shortchanging yourself.

In reality I don't think someone like Toby would have stayed with someone like Kate. It's always difficult to be with someone so insecure, regardless of what the source of their insecurities is, and she is twice as big as he is. I simply don't think he would have had the incentive to stay if this were a real-life situation.

Agreed Toby is great, and at times seeming too great to be true. Also, yes, Kate made choices I know I wouldn't. Stalking and befriending his ex behind his back is going way beyond what a sane person would do. But it's a little short sighted to say her problems are as easy as hitting the gym. For one thing, she's been overweight all her life, so that's a good 30-something or more, not sure of her age, years of feeling insecure in front of her peers. She could also have been dealing with a health issue like thyroid, which makes it difficult to lose weight even with less food and regular exercise.

But the main point being, her issues mean she could benefit better from counseling before a gym. Otherwise she will have zero progress both mentally and physically. She has to accept herself before she can improve anything.

Also, the O P doesn't understand the relationship between twins. I'm not a twin but I've known a few sets of twins. I worked with a set of identical sisters and they were inseparable. Even after they were both married. All their vacations were taken together. The one twin's husband knew not to come between them. Twins have a special relationship because they shared a womb.

Or, as Dr. K says, "they shared the same hot tub for 9 months."

Kate is actually one of my favorite characters. I think the feelings and emotions she is playing are so raw.

Her character is very real, I met many overweight people scarred for life just because their weight. To me is very interesting to watch her and the actress is on point, there aren't many shows that despict this piece of reality (obesity is pandemic BTW but it's rarely represented on TV shows)

She's probably been hurt a lot because of her weight.

But it drives me insane to see a hot lady with a fat guy. I would be curious too.

Yummy I can understand why you would think this however, it's obvious you're not overweight so you probably don't know how overweight people feel daily in their lives.

I'm overweight. Not as big as Kate, thankfully, but I have my struggles and I also have had a thyroid problem for the past 5 years so it became a challenge.

The good news is that my thyroid is under control, I'm eating better and I've lost almost 30 pounds. I still have a few more to go, but I'm stepping in the right direction.

I was like her, though. Very insecure, thinking that everyone was looking at me or descriminating me because of my weight and it's always in your mind. That's why I decided to do something about it. I wasn't going to allow this problem to take control of my life.

That's what Kate is face with and until she sees the results, she is never going to stop thinking about that one thing that is stopping her from living her life.

Her situation is very much real and unless you lived it you will never understand.
