Sports : Kyle Korver to Kavs
Re: Kyle Korver to Kavs
He's a good three point shooter, but I'm not exactly sure how I should feel about this. He does kind of fill in the "void" that was left by J.R. but that's about it.
Re: Kyle Korver to Kavs
He's not there to fill in the void of Jr Smith. It's Mike Dunleavy.

Re: Kyle Korver to Kavs
But Smith is out for 8-10 weeks.

Re: Kyle Korver to Kavs
It doesn't matter. JR Smith plays defense and rebounds. Mike and Jr are not really the same kind of player. Frye is more like Jr. Mike is more like Korver. In their mid to late 30s and only shoot threes. No defense or rebounding ability.

Re: Kyle Korver to Kavs
True, but you can't say he's taking over for Dunleavy, since Korver will actually play more than 10 minutes a game.

Re: Kyle Korver to Kavs
True but Frye has been the one who has been taking up the slack for Jr for quite some time. Before the injury, Jr was just "there"

Re: Kyle Korver to Kavs
And Frye's a stretch 4. When I was saying Korver was taking over for J.R. it was because I imagine he'll be put in as a 2 guard, even though he can be used as a small forward as well.

Don't you think his statement "I have not missed one game in over 20 years" a bit suspect though? I mean come on, not one in 20 years?
I don't believe it so that ruins his credibility.

Re: not missed a game in over 20 years
Nice try.

Re: In Defense Of christian-dicklicker
It is true and actually annoying. I want to start missing some. I am serious. I had the NBA League Pass when I lived in Louisiana for fifteen years and watched the games every night they were on. Usually I would record them and watch them while I laid in bed. Now it is at the point where I just want to keep the streak alive. It is actually getting annoying now where I am just doing it for this and not because I care.

Re: Kyle Korver to Kavs
I had read rumors about Millsap. Seems they completely going to change the line-up.

Kongrats to Kyle Kutcher!
Re: Kyle Korver to Kavs
With Kyrie, Kevin Love, and Kyle Korver, the Cavs are gonna rain 3s all day.
I'm not so good with advice. Can I interest you in a sarcastic comment?

Re: Kyle Korver to Kavs
nah, maybe we should call these Superteam from Cavs as the Four Musketeers, and don't forget Lebron as their team leader.

Re: Kyle Korver to Kavs
I 'call myself' a Sixers fan. I have not missed one game in over 20 years. I guess I am a fake fan. I have been on this site for over ten years and have talked Sixers the entire time. What the heck are you talking about? I did not insult you in my post. Also, we do get the Kings unprotected pick.in 2019. I am not sure I ever said otherwise. If I did, it was an honest mistake.

Re: Kyle Korver to Kavs
? How good? What are you talking about? He has always been a good role player, that is all he ever was. Korver was great for the Sixers for most years, in his role. He didn't exactly improve too much when leaving. He was just in some better circumstances.

Re: Kyle Korver to Kavs
I wouldn't call Korver a good player. He's dangerous from long range, but he has to be set up. He's a glorified Steve Novak. He doesn't rebound or pass, he's not a great defenderthrees and helping spread the floor are his primary values.
Buton a team like Cleveland, with the benefit of Lebron setting him up, Korver could be very valuable to the Cavs.
This is also telling in terms of not being a vote of confidence in JR Smith. Every time Smith signs a new contract and gets his guaranteed money, his production and motivation disappear.
Bigly.

Re: Kyle Korver to Kavs
korver is nothing but another 3 point shooter. anyone assuming this is a move to replace jr smith is wrong. smith is an excellent perimeter defender even when his shot isn't falling. korver cannot replace his minutes over the long haul.
what I was hoping the cavs were going to do is try to package a deal for both korver and millsap since the hawks are apparently having a firesale.
I'm sure it has more to do with the contract than anything but I can't believe the cavs needed to trade Williams, Dunleavy, and a pick to get korver.
on paper korver is nothing more than a player for player swap of Dunleavy. they have the exact same skill set.
like I said, I'm sure it has to do with shuffling around of cap space, so I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if Cleveland is gearing up for another acquisition.
getting rid of Williams contract was nice.
they may try to offload or buyout Anderson too.

The Cavs have no use for Paul Millsap, who they couldn't afford anyways.
The guy who the Cavs should have targeted was Thabo Sefolosha, whom the Hawks made available. The Cavs really need a larger, defensive-minded 3 who can hold his against 4s own on switches. Thabo provides just that.
The Cavs have such precious few assets that I was against the dumping of a pick for essentially half a season of a 35-year old, defense-adverse shooter. But it irrefutably accomplishes a few things for the Cavs:
1) Provides added depth. The Cavs' bench has been a glaring weakness this year. Dunleavy was picked up to take advantage of Cleveland's ample floor spacing but he just wasn't getting it done. At 36 years old with a recent back surgery, Dunleavy was too ineffective and never found his rhythm with the Cavs. Korver is still shooting at a pretty high level and he picks up the slack in that department. The Cavs have opted to start Liggins to bring a more defense-first approach to the starting line-up, but they could esaily slide Korver if need be.
2) Opens up a roster spot for a point guard. LeBron has been adamant about the team acquiring another floor general, and removing Williams' dead carcass from the roster allows Griffin to do just that.
3) Reduces salary. This coincides with #2, but Gilbert understandably doesn't want to take on additional money after fronting an exorbitant tax bill. Sending Dunleavy and Williams to Atlanta shaves off roughly $5 million, which isn't unsubstantial.
So to review, the Cavs replaced dead-weight with an all-time great shooter who should feast with the newfound spacing, all while saving money and freeing up a roster spot for future improvements.
While I think that the Cavs should have focused on other needs, that's excellent asset and cap management from David Griffin who continually proves to be the shrewdest and most aggressive GM in the game.
I don't think Korver moves the needle any against the Warriors but he does make an already elite platoon of 3-pt snipers even more terrifying.
