Split : Farewell guys :'(
Re: Farewell guys :'(
We can still say whatever we want to say by February 20th uncle Imdb change their mind
Re: Farewell guys :'(
I've been an IMDb user since 2003, and I've frequented the forums for probably ten years now, and during the last two-three years the hatered, bullying and smack talk has just gotten worse and worse.
It's almost impossible to have a plain, neutral discussion about a movie anymore, without it leading to some foul crap.
The shutting down of the forums is bittersweet at best. It's quite unexpected, but very understandable.
I'm not going to miss them.

Re: Farewell guys :'(
I guarantee you that the REPORT POST numbers for the last several months are what spurred this decision on.
1) Every popular thread has multiple bots pushing every illegal download out there.
2) Every celebrity death gets socio-pathetic diptwads crawling out of the woodwork before the body is cold.
3) Every thread is hijacked by people pushing off-topic agendas. Every thread. You can't discuss Fantasia without some idiot veering into hateful ignorant political or religious rants.
IMDb/Amazon are under no obligation to provide anyone with an unrestricted platform to spew their BS. And the funny thing is, I just got one of those "warning" notices just yesterday because someone complained about one of my posts. That is freakin' hilarious.
Let's see who takes the bait.

Re: Farewell guys :'(
Man i'm so sad about that. It's like they taken 1/4 of my soul :(
Re: Farewell guys :'(
Me too. I'm not on those big social media sites, so I'm such a huge fan of IMDB and the discussions we have here.
Please help give us a chance by signing the petition/s that are circulating trying to rescue us from being given the axe.
I really do not want to lose this experience. There are people out there who have respectfully utilized the IMDB connection and who are not part of the facebook and twitter crowd.
Please don't take this from us too.

Re: Farewell guys :'(
Agreed.
Re: Farewell guys :'(
I totally thought you were trolling, then I saw the message above. I'm really bummed about this. It's become a bit of a habit of mine to go to IMDB after I see a movie, mostly to discuss it on the boards. I guess I'll flip over to reddit, but it's not the same. Very disappointed.
Re: Farewell guys :'(
Reddit? I'm glad you said that.
What do you say, you dumb bitch?

I don't do troll.

Me too! Very addictive!
I guess I'll flip over to reddit,
It's super messy.
Re: Farewell guys :'(
If people valued good movie discussions over hordes threads about politics and trolling, it would be a far merrier world. But sad or merry, I must leave it now. Farewell
Re: Farewell guys :'(
I agree. Most of the well thought out posts are eventually ruined by some idiot troll, cyber bully or brat teen with name calling or senseless bickering.
Re: Farewell guys :'(
I'm all with you
Re: Farewell guys :'(
Farewell
I'll miss coming here to discuss movies after their premiere. I agree with you in that the recent decline of this site due to stupid trolls was a weight in their decision to close the boards. It sucks for those of us who actually come here to discuss movieswhat now?
I've never fooled anyone. I've let people fool themselves.

Re: Farewell guys :'(
I'm heartbroken over this news. I live on these message board. It's the only way I know what other people besides critics are saying about a movie or TV show. But I understand. The trolls have made this an unpleasant space. And I hate Reddit and don't even understand how it works. I'll miss you guys.

Agreed! IMDb offers the best organisation to handle the boards. I opened up Reddit and a split second after that, I just wanted to close it.
Re: Farewell guys :'(
It's too late to matter, but wherever you go you should always remember:
DON'T FEED THE TROLLS
It's not that hard to do: give them zero replies, zero attention and they dry up, go away and try somewhere else. They have zero attention span so all you have to do is ignore them and not feed them.

Re: Farewell guys :'(
I'm sorry but I just don't buy it. The trolls must surely just be the scapegoat for some bigger reason that Amazon isn't divulging. I've been a member since 2002. After every movie and every TV ep I watch (with very few exceptions) I do 3 things:
1) Check the Trivia
2) Check the Goofs
3) Check the Boards - If I have a question I ask it, and if I can supply and answer I will. But mostly I just read them and learn.
I have never been bothered by trolls, probably for exactly the same reason I don't even notice online ads - they're just irrelevant to me and I ignore or gloss over them. They're like people you pass in a busy street - do you actually stop and look at each person you pass? No, because unless they are of particular interest to you, you ignore them because they're irrelevant. Is that really so hard for people to do? Am I really the only one for whom it's second nature? Surely not!
Millions of us have contributed to, and benefited from, this amazing resource over the last 15 years - there are posts on here from actors, directors, and others involved in the industry who have posted on these boards, and the rest of us little folk have also contributed countless hours too. If these boards are destroyed, all that collective knowledge will be lost forever!
At the very least, IMDB should offer the data for storage somewhere like www.archive.org where we could all continue to access it, even if not able contribute anything new. It would not a a large undertaking either, since there is no multimedia content, just plain text, which compresses to almost nothing - in fact, I bet the entire content of all of the message boards would fit onto a thumb drive!
Please everybody, if you care about this precious resource, don't just give up and say goodbye, have your say on IMDb's official discussion forum at https://getsatisfaction.com/imdb/topics/imdb-message-boards

Re: Farewell guys :'(
Great post Tom especially the part about laughing until my stomach ache, laughing is great therapy for mankind. Classical music is also great for the mind and soul http://www.classicfm.com/. Some here will find a new home to discuss film and others will just wander onto something different. The beginning of a new path has begun.
Re: Farewell guys :'(
Anyone know an alternative message board to discuss movies like?
Re: Farewell guys :'(
several people recommended this website:
https://www.themoviedb.org/
https://www.themoviedb.org/
Re: Farewell guys :'(
Ive been a member since 2006.
I come here basically only for the message boards and trivia. And I check the trivia far less than the message boards.
Message boards are for reading and discussing upcoming movies, released movies, backstage info, plot twists, performances. It might sound pathetic, but that is what a site like this is for - to allow fans to have a collective experience, etc.
If the message board go away, the site pretty much becomes useless and I will move my attention elsewhere. Because another site will surely grow in traffic and grow larger because of this.
Laura:You left a dead prostitute buried alone in the desert?
Kyle:She's not alone.

Removing the boards is a decision made by the global elite who run bohemian grove
Farewell guys :'(
I feel that I'm losing a member of my family, without the message board, IMDB is nothing
Feeling very disappointed, even though I truly confess that the haters annoyed me the whole way through but all of the users, I mean everyone, indirectly taught me how to do better in sarcasm, jokes, antics, banter and I swear to God, you guys made my days cause I laugh so hard that once in a while, my stomach ache (a good thing).
I used to be weak at sarcasm when involving a debate with friends but since I have used this application for 2 years, it keeps getting better and better.
Hate to say this but goodbye users. Hope we can talk again after this.
Farewell, message board of IMDB. :')
