Split : Split or 10 Cloverfield Lane?

I personally liked 10 Cloverfield Lane better but Split was still good

Split was easily superior with more style and substance and a way more complex story.

10 Cloverfield Lane, definitely.
Split's pretty good, for a Shyamalan flick, but that hasn't really meant much in a very long time.

Both pretty good, but Cloverfield Lane is superior in terms of cinematography, performances (John Goodman), and overall intensity.

Yea the camerawork in split was absolutely genius and better

Real close but Split sealed the deal with that post-credits ending.

I honestly liked both movie, but Split is better. It's more cohesive and doesn't fall apart during the ending unlike 10 Cloverfield Lane

Liked them both. But "10 Cloverfield" has Mary Elizabeth Winstead in it, so it is automatically 100 times better than movies without her.

I think on a lot of technical levels, 10 Cloverfield Lane is a better movie. Better writing, directing, and acting. The script for it is just so tight and the editing is so well paced. It keeps you guessing the entire movie.

Split is still very good also, with great acting from McAvoy. But there are long sections of dialogue (the therapist's explanation monologues come to mind) that easily should've been trimmed. And there's just TOO many scenes of characters STARING doing absolutely nothing. Or scenes that make absolutely no sense that wouldn't happen that way. Plus, the main girl's acting was weird at the times she would cry. She had a look in her eye that when she cried, it was as if she was crying because she was sad looking at this person she knew/loved that was changing into something horrible. It's such a distinct look that I had to take specific note of it, and it happened at least 3 different times.

I'm gonna have to say Split wins this for me. While both are intense, expertly made thrillers, the climax is where Split wins over Cloverfield. While I didn't hate the alien climax of Cloverfield, it was a bit too much of a jump from the realistic, small scale style the film had. Split's climax, while it had The Beast personality doing stuff like climbing walls, it was set up well because we see how his different personalities move and act that are different from each other, so stuff like that was in The Beast's nature and his body changed to reflect how that personality would move and act, so it felt believable in the way the story set up Kevin's issue. Also it was kept in the cellar the whole time, keeping the scale consistent to the rest of the film.

Really good comparison! I love both. Can't decide right now, although I've always been a fan of M. Night's work.
