Hidden Figures : PC run amok…

PC run amok…

I try to see the corrolation between critizing or rather questioning the Academy when it comes to the Best picturenomination(Satellite Awards not withstanding) and having any sort of issues with black people or diversity in general. You ask questions and want to get other peoples counteropinions and Littlegeorgie and the gang remove any post thats not in line with their own view or conviction.

IFIf we could ask the Academy and get an honest answer if this film got the votes simply cause they found it awesome or if its cause of the backlash and pressure from people who see them as old, white racists, then there would be NO NEED to debate any of this. Dialog is key to our development and potentially broadened views. But we cant ask them so we then speculate and ask questions,right?Well.wrong.

Not so sure administrators should be involved in debates on these forums. To get into an argument due to personal opinions and misuse power, delete posts that you dont agree with only make some seem petty and on high horses. Having issues with ONE nomination,AN IMPORTANT ONE DOES NOT MAKE A PERSON A BIGOT OR RACISTNot to me,anyhow.

My Eritrean mistress liked it but did Not feel it was better than Jackie(Im not a fan)or 20th Century Womenis SHE a racist? Oh,let me take a stab in the dark.this will soon be deleted? Cool.

Hidden Figures has a 92% on rotten tomatoes, big box office, great word of mouth and a 94% audience rating on RT. How is it surprising it got a BP nom?

Re: PC run amok…

Mmm,Yep.yeah,it is surprising, that is the true definition of the nomination. Since including BAFTA,BCCA and the Globes plus 45 or so criticsgroups, none under so much scrutiny nominated it for best pictureAnd the one institution heavily accused of racism and lack of diversity nominates it.

That IS somewhat of anomaly,is it not? If not unfair,it certainly is very surprising from a neutral standpoint.

Re: PC run amok…

Hidden Figures hasn't been released in Great Britain. Therefore it couldn't be considered for BAFTA.

Re: PC run amok…

Well.would be a fair point.IF it did not get a SCREENPLAY nomination from BAFTA. Soooo.that was an incorrect assessment. Screeners were obviously available. Voters dont always go to the cinemaPlus, thats ONE institution.

Re: PC run amok…

Hidden Figures got an Sag, WGA, PGA, and a scripters screenplay nomination leading up to the oscars. all of those nominations pretty much determine what film will be nominated for an Academy Award. What do you think just about all the pundits had hidden figures in the best picture lineup prior to termination morning. This wasn't shocking everybody knew it was going to get a nomination

Re: PC run amok…

Valid pointAlthough then we have this obvious,hand-in-hand corrolation between these prominent, critisized guilds in the Business and NO OTHER institution or group Except the biggest, most prominent and critisized, the Academy Award. For contrast,Black critics circle who usually mostly nom films of color didnt nom it for picture.

If Everyone knew a film without a single BP-nom anywhere would be Oscar-nommed for BP,THATs scary. So since the Award concensus is that its not in the top ten or 15does the Oscars matter or not? But sure, you summed it up.

Re: PC run amok…

There is no doubt the Academy felt the pressure of the "Oscarssowhite" campaign run against it these last two yearsas a nomination for this film confirms.
As it turns out, I enjoyed Hidden Figures more than some of the other laborious films that made the cut, but at no time while viewing it did I believe it was worthy of a Best Picture nom. An argument could be made for the acting categories though.

"Well.would be a fair point.IF it did not get a SCREENPLAY nomination from BAFTA. Soooo.that was an incorrect assessment. "

it comes out in wide release in the UK FEb 17. So you are wrong. Which you know, if you used, I don't knowTHIS website.

Re: PC run amok…

Daft much? Its wrongwhat youre saying. Youre not making a credible impression so far.The argument for the film not getting A best picture nomination from BAFTA was its later release.but thats a moot point since it was seen by voters and they nominated the film.but Not for best Picture.which you would knowif you used, maybethis website.SO simple to check

Ey,pssstIts the Award section, shhh, dont tell anyone else. WIDE RELEASE IS A SEPERATE ISSUE FOR THE PUBLIC,GUY. MEMBERS/VOTERS OF BAFTA GOT SCREENERS,THEY SAW IT,MAKING IT LEGALLY POSSIBLE FOR HF TO BE NOMMED FOR ITS SCREENPLAY,RIGHT

Unless youre suggesting cheating? Hmmm.maybe but I doubt it.And focusing on ONE single institution this much is grasping at tiny straws, especially sad when youre not grasping something pretty simple.

You read the EXACT same facts twice nowWhy? But more important,Is it sinking in? Okaygood talk.
