Outsiders : This show needs subtitles.

This show needs subtitles.

At least when those mountain men folks speak. It's pretty hard to understand them..
I'm a man of few words. Thank you.

Sometimes it feels like gargling mixed in

This show needs a cancellation

Re: This show needs subtitles.

Don't agree, at all. It's one of the best shows on right now IMHO. If you don't like it, then why are you on the boards for this show?

Re: This show needs subtitles.

Because he has his own opinion perhaps?

People like you, with the logic of 2 months old baby, makes me puke.

Its same as asking why do you listen to JB's song when you don't like it?

Well in order to decide if i like it or not,i need to hear it first.

And same as you having a right to like it,i have a right to dislike it.

Now go and have a '2 girls one cup' for dinner and while you enjoy it,think about things you don't like and try to imagine how would you feel if someone said to you same thing you said to this guy because you didn't like something and you decide to give your own opinion which is your birthright and freedom of speech is something no one can take from you.

Have a pleasant dinner and good night after it.

Re: This show needs subtitles.

Totally agree. I have a terrible time understanding a lot of the dialog. Some sound like they have they have a mouth full of marbles. Way too much whispering.

Re: This show needs subtitles.

I love this show. Hope there is a season two.

Re: This show needs subtitles.

I actually think they don't speak "hillbilly" enough. They speak almost as well as any rural person would in that part of the country.

Re: This show needs subtitles.

I agree! I grew up in those parts and even though i have moved a bit and lost most of my accent they dont speak hillbilly enough!

Re: This show needs subtitles.

I'm english and totally disagree with you. I understand them with no difficulty whatsoever. In fact their accents I think are really mild.

btw it's an excellent series.

Re: This show needs subtitles.

I'm also from England and I have no trouble understanding any of it.

Re: This show needs subtitles.

I'm from Finland and English is just a foreign language to me, but most of their speaking is understandable. Of course I miss some words that I don't understand or know translation. So it doesn't matter what that plant was she used to poison him or that old lady ate.

Re: This show needs subtitles.

lol. a lot of English people think the Americans speak a foreign language too ! :)

Re: This show needs subtitles.

I watch it with subtitles. My television has closed caption. Definitely helps.

Re: This show needs subtitles.

The DVDs have captions, and I use 'em. It does help a lot, because they mix in a lot of other languages and when I miss a word, I'm not sure if it was English I misheard, or Appalachian-speak that I wouldn't have understood anyway. Having wrecked a lot of my hearing with decades of loud punk and metal didn't help any, either so, I love captioning!

Re: This show needs subtitles.

Love the show..binge watching on Hulu right now! I also hope there will be a season two!
I always watch everything with my close captioning on just because of hearing difficulties and it has helped to see the spelling of some of the dialectic speech they use in this show!
I know a lot of it does come from a mixture of regular & olde English and old country dialects that people still spoke when they first immigrated here from abroad. I know from my own family history that many families coming here from places like Ireland, Scotland, Wales etc, chose to settle into these off the grid mountainous regions here in the New World because it was similar to what they were accustomed to abroad climate wise etc! This also afforded them the freedom of living in the " Clan" lifestyle of their ancestors and segregating themselves so that they could continue on living that type of lifestyle here! If that makes sense?.then the language they used became an eclectic blending of the oldworld and the new with a dash of what was spoken regionally at the time!
I know writers, directors etc take a lot of freedom and make up many words and ways of speaking in series and movies! One example being The 100! I recognize some of this shows words and expressions but the one that I can't seem to figure out or find any definition for is the term Ged Gedyah and I'd love to know if it's a made up word for the show or if it indeed has a definition of old??

Re: This show needs subtitles.

Ged Gedyah ? doesn't it mean good day to you ? or hello ?
