I don't know much about physics so I could be wrong, but my understanding is that schrodingers cat isnt a logic problem at all it's a physics thought experiment about how unintuitive quantum theory is. On its own, it makes absolutely no sense. It stuck out to me as super silly.

If she tried to say that anything is possible then why not use the analogy. Then again she was a medic, not a physicist.

the girl was clearly human and intelligent so there was no dilemma at all, they just tried to keep themselves safe from the infection.

But the doctor was not a physicist. So maybe she just couldn't think of more riddles.

I think she was trying to make it seem like it was open to interpretation.

It was used in a new context - to ask whether Melanie is an unconscious machine-like entity, or "dead", or sentient and "alive". Melanie is Schrodinger's Cat, as a metaphor.
