Sports : Sports Board lowlights: Worst sports takes? Aggrevating arguments?
Re: Sports Board lowlights: Worst sports takes? Aggrevating arguments?
Rugby v American Football
Cricket v Baseball
Any Olympics stuff which isn't focused on the actual competition is usually a sht show.
The "Which sports are the most popular worldwide.' argument.
Sometimes the 'who is the greatest of all time' topic could be ok, other times it was terrible.

Re: Sports Board lowlights: Worst sports takes? Aggrevating arguments?
Drafting Datsyuk was clearly lucky. They had no idea how good he'd become or they would have taken him earlier. You just can't risk another team taking him. It's not like they were thinking "people will think we're weird if we take him now, so let's concentrate on locking up Ryan Barnes!!"

The Olympic medals debate.

I disagree without those debates, we never would have gotten Feologild_V's famous input

I can't speak for others but mine would have to be my yearly prediction of a playoff spot for the Buffalo Bills.
I guess I'll have to bring out the 2017 edition a little early.
11-5. Wild card. Close AFC title game loss.

So who do you think will be the QB of your 11-5 Bills playoff team?

People who accuse the Patriots of cheating
Re: Sports Board lowlights: Worst sports takes? Aggrevating arguments?
Hopefully it'll be Taylor.
He's not the problem. He was easily a top ten QB in 2015, fell a few notches in 2016 but he's got nothing at WR and TE. He's thrown 12 picks in 2 seasons. He's got class and brains on a team with very little of either.
I wouldn't mind seeing Romo there if Taylor goes. Doubt it will happen.
I wouldn't even mind seeing Cutlerbecause I know there are worse options seriously being considered. Cardale Jones. DeShaun Watson. If they blow a first round pick on DeShaun Watson I'll be very pissed. I wouldn't want him as a second rounder either for that matter. He has bust written all over him. As for Cardale Jones, he wasn't even a legit college QB. They got him in the fourth round.he would've been a wasted pick in the seventh. The Bills GM is a complete tool.
I think McDermott is gonna stick around for a while though. I'll take him over any of the offseason coaching hires.

Not a lowlight, just had to get one last one in. Man, we had some good times. The salad eating days.
Re: Sports Board lowlights: Worst sports takes? Aggrevating arguments?
Well, this does not really fit the bill, but I had this exchange with a poster here (a longtime regular poster if memory serves) before the WC2014 semi-final between Brazil and Germany (which Germany famously won by 7 goals to 1):
Poster whose name I don't remember: Germany is going to humiliate Brazil
Me: Don't be ridiculous. Germany couldn't humiliate Algeria, how are they going to humiliate Brazil?

Re: Sports Board lowlights: Worst sports takes? Aggrevating arguments?
Can"t remember his name, but that delusional Mavs fan who would claim that TD was a joke, that all of the Spurs Championships (yep, all 5) were either lucky or part of an NBA conspiracy to keep the Mavs down. Worst of all, from his tone you could tell he's not a troll: he was dead serious.
Re: Sports Board lowlights: Worst sports takes? Aggrevating arguments?
Any of the, "He's just not that good," arguments made by delusional/bitter fans over the years. Whether it be Brady, Manning, LeBron, Jordan, Bird, Pippen, Gretzky, etc. There's always some yahoo convinced that the rest of the world is crazy for appreciating the talent of any given player. Whether you like the guy or not is completely separate from his ability, some fans just seem to forget that.

Multiple posters, the PEDs debate. I'm anti-PEDs, but the counter argument is always what about caffeine, Tommy John surgery, amphetamines etc

oh man, I remember philliplitt. that dude was incredibly stubborn and overreacted to everything. the ultimate contrarian. he would accuse me (and I think bitchezmcsteve too) of being self-hating Michigan fans if we dared to criticize anything about the program or express frustration with something. one of the rose-colored blinders fans who police other fans.
if i'm not mistaken, wasn't he a high school basketball ref?
Where did you get those clothes, the toilet store?

I've always hated "the best college football team can beat the worst NFL team".
Tell the facts. Name the names.

+1 on this, and it comes up every single year. You can set your watch to it.
Re: Sports Board lowlights: Worst sports takes? Aggrevating arguments?
I'll give this one my vote. Any chance we get Jim defending the idea one more time and setting us all straight lol?

Re: Sports Board lowlights: Worst sports takes? Aggrevating arguments?
It's obviously not just this site, but everybody who thinks sports are rigged after a result they don't want happens. I mean, why are you even watching if you know the results?
That DramatisPersona guy only ever seemed to come out of the woodwork to complain about exactly that. After the Dez no-catch, and then again this year after the Super Bowl at least this time he wasn't the only one.
~I know that I know nothing.~

Worst sports takes?
I remember there were a number of users who called the Seahawks cheaters because of an infamous game-winning call that gave us the W over Green Bay. Golden Tate made that catch fair and square.
Let’s also not forget about the fair weather fans who were saying that Tom Brady was/is the worst quarterback of all time on the Sports board, too. Lol.
Those were some of the worst sports takes that I stumbled across on the IMDb Sports board.
“There are no atheists in foxholes, eh?”-Keith Jennings from the Omen.
Sports Board lowlights: Worst sports takes? Aggrevating arguments?
Just some spectacularly bad sports takes you've read on this board over the years, or arguments you got into that made you want to pull your hair out?
"Jordan Schafer is the next Mickey Mantle" would be at the top of my list, but I'm a little unsure of the sincerity that post was made with.
While he was with the Broncos, someone on this board called Jay Cutler the 3rd best QB in the league and was dead serious.
Probably my most common arguments on this board concern the meaning of MVP and just how good Alex Smith is, but I've been in so many of those on this board that a specific one doesn't stick out.
I can recall having a debate with former poster PhilipLitt on whether or not the Red Wings selection of Pavel Datsyuk was "lucky" that blew my mind, but I've seen other similar arguments on this board with Patriots fans making the same case with Tom Brady. Being lucky is a good thing, right? Not sure why fans want to deny the impact of luck. Teams may like a guy. They might like him more than anyone else. (Or in Datsyuk's case, they may be the only team with a scout who saw him play). But they're not letting him slide deep through the draft like some 'ace in the hole' if they have any inclination that he's going to be either one of the best hockey players of his era or one of the greatest QBs in the history of the sport. "Hey, we can wait on this all-time guy 'casue other teams just don't see his talent!". Yeah, nobody drafts that way.
What do you have? What are your Sports Board lowlights?
