La La Land : Trolls killed the message boards…
Re: Trolls killed the message boards…
It's true. People are begging to sign petitions to save the message boards. But I say let it die. Someone told me to kill myself once on the IMDb boards. This is something I can live without.
Granted, I would love to have informed discussions about the movies and tv shows I enjoy, but that is so infrequent anymore on here. So I think it's fine that they're shutting down.

Re: Trolls killed the message boards…
In theory the message boards are great, but unfortunately the reality is that people come on the boards and say awful things to others. There are lots of sick people out there and now many of them will have to go elsewhere. You are right, it is a good thing that they are shutting them down.
Re: Trolls killed the message boards…
Jack Nicholson warned them.
Re: Trolls killed the message boards…
I agree 100%!! I've felt very saddened as well as disgusted by the flaming, name calling, trolls (as you said) and plain old BS that I continually run into on these Message Boardsthey've died a slow death due to this problem getting out of control and it sucks!! Some of us in fact probably the majority of followers here are really interested in intelligent and funny interchange of opinion and info about movies, tv shows and the people that make them happen. Too, too bad once again the few had to ruin it for the many as is the case with so many thingsin this world?
Sorry to see the MB's go??but not surprised in the least!!

It's too bad that adults act like children these days.
Re: Trolls killed the message boards…
"These days?" History shows this is not a new phenomenon.

Re: Trolls killed the message boards…
Yeah, makes me sad that something as having a civil discussion (and exchange of opinions) seems to be impossible nowadays. On the internet, at least. What I just don't get is why people would go to such lengths to just spoil other peoples' fun. I can't wrap my head around it.

Re: Trolls killed the message boards…
And seeing that trolls really infested the La La Land board, it seems fitting that all the trash talk about this movie is going to end also. Can't wait until the movie sweeps the Oscars!!!
Re: Trolls killed the message boards…
The anonymity fuels the lack of civility. It would be preferential if members would communicate using their authentic names.

Re: WARNING TO TROLLS.
Now that's just silly. We're suing people for making negative remarks about us online now?
Re: WARNING TO TROLLS.
Woods spreads a lie about Planned Parenthood, then sues someone who purportedly spreads a lie about him.

"The fact that Woods, himself, has a long (long, long, long) history of spouting off similarly incendiary claims to people on Twitter apparently wasn't important. Here is an example of a Woods tweet that seems quite similar to the one he, himself, claimed was defamatory:
'@stevmg Well, put down your crack pipe, and retread my timelines. You'll find plenty there'
"The case was moving along and then something bizarre happened. Abe List (whoever that is) died (unexpectedly, apparently). Woods then took to Twitter to obnoxiously gloat about "winning" the case, leaving out the fact that the case was ending due to the death of the defendant.
After people pointed out to Woods how ridiculous it was that he was gloating over a "victory" when someone had died, the ever classy Woods, gloated some more, first saying he hoped that List died 'screaming my name. in agony,' and then later saying: 'Learn this. Libel me, I'll sue you. If you die, I'll follow you to the bowels of Hell. Get it?'
To then add insult to death, Woods and his lawyers continued to push forward with the lawsuit, demanding to still uncover the name of Abe List. Woods' lawyers basically tried to argue that because they didn't know Abe List's identity, it was possible that Ken White [defendant's lawyer] was lying that List had died. They argued that they needed White to disclose Abe List's real name to prove that List was really dead:
'Critically, although White claims that AL is deceased, he has refused to provide any evidence whatsoever substantiating this claim.'
Emphasis in the original.
[defendant's lawyer] "Now, Mr. Woods seeks to compel Mr. Doe's attorney, non-party Kenneth P. White ("Mr. White"), to disclose Mr. Doe's identity, and to sanction Mr. White almost $10,000 for asserting the attorney-client privilege in response to his questions. Mr. Woods asserts that his purpose is legitimate and that he does not seek to harass or abuse Mr. Doe's survivors. But Mr. Woods' own public statements give the lie to that assertion. Mr. Woods wants to do just what he said he wants to do: publicly harass and vilify a dead man and his family.'"

Re: Trolls killed the message boards…
Ruben .will you be going to themoviedb.org/ after the 20th ?
wonder if that is the best place / will have the most visitors.would be best if all imdb users came to the same place, and of course that place had the best layout with boards for both movies and actors
.
FU IMDB

Part of that logic seems sensible, but the rest not so much. IMDb does want money from us, of course. The problem is that there aren't enough of us to make enough money to justify the investment. As for analysis or critique, there's little threat when the boards aren't exactly known for consensus, and the number of users isn't significant enough to draw the attention of people outside the confines of the forum community.
