Lesbian couple completely anachronistic

Yes, I know lesbianism wasn't a crime in the UK and I know morals were more relaxed during the war. But they were most certainly not relaxed in the armed forces. The woman's behavior, though not a crime for a civilian, would have been an offense under King's Regulations, the military code of conduct at the time. She would have been court-martialed and given a dishonorable discharge from the services.

The scene is ludicrously inappropriate for the time and was obviously written in as a sop to modern audiences. Just to clarify, I don't mean that a lesbian couple would be anachronistic. I mean that a member of the armed services engaging in open lesbianism was anachronistic. Lesbian servicewomen would have been sure to keep their private lives private for fear of being discharged with ignominy from the forces.

Re: Lesbian couple completely anachronistic

I completely agree. I saw this tonight and when I saw that scene was immediately distracted by the audacity to include the couple.

Re: Lesbian couple completely anachronistic

Not to mention, it added nothing to the story. Absolutely no reason to have it even be part of the movie. His sister had a very small role and she could have just as easily been with a man, or with no one and it wouldn't have made one bit of difference.

Maybe poker's just not your game, Ike. I know, let's have a spelling contest.

Re: Lesbian couple completely anachronistic

Exactly what I though. If the writers had made the character of the sister's partner a man, there would be no difference whatsoever. No real reason to insert this modern views and attitude on lesbianism.
Or if instead of a sister making Brad have a brother.

Re: Lesbian couple completely anachronistic

Agreed. Pure Leftist crap.

Can you fly this plane?
Surely u cant be serious
I am serious, and dont call me Shirley

Re: Lesbian couple completely anachronistic

There goes film makers again inserting today's morals in a world where there was no place for gay interaction. Took away from the movie's theme and flow. It just sucked. As was the F bombs which may be common in today's military, but not in the 40's 50's, 60's should I go on..

Re: Lesbian couple completely anachronistic

what the F do ancrhonistic mean??

Re: Lesbian couple completely anachronistic

I agree. I am sure there were plenty of gay people back in the day, but they would not have been openly out for all to speculate.

Re: Lesbian couple completely anachronistic

Did you think it was any surprise that it was two LESBIANS, while gay men were nowhere in sight?

It's always been easier for women than men. Did you notice the drunk male soldiers who wanted them to kiss, so they could watch? Nowadays, it's drunk fratboys who still pester lesbians, wanting a free show. But the cluelessness and hypocrisy haven't changed at all.

Re: Lesbian couple completely anachronistic

Well, I think it is more accepted because women are mostly considered more inferior than men by a lot of people. Even today I read an article where Russia made it legal to beat your wife with a fine and it won't be a crime. It is easier maybe to accept lesbians because it does not provide as much of a threat to heterosexual males. I definitely think it is easier for women to come out than men, but we are already not treated equally by gender alone, so people can just toss it off as not much because we don't matter as much to some men.

Exactly right. So many guys are so clueless that they think seeing two women is "hot" when it really means those women don't need HIM for anything at all, and they'll be getting even LESS sex than they do already. Is that really what they want?

The main male fantasy (some say even the ONLY one) is to have two attractive women get it on, and then he JOINS them. That happens all the time in the porn they watch. But if you talk to REAL lesbians (not the fake ones that do girl-on-girl scenes in porn) that would NEVER happen.

And at the same time, these guys feel threatened by gay men when it really means there will be more women left for him, which is a good thing. A lot of guys like to assume gay men will be weak sissies they can laugh at or punch in the face, if they're that intimidated. (I can't believe the number of ugly, potbellied slobs who somehow imagine other men will find them irresistible. They're just lucky women have lower standards.)

But when he realizes that the big bruiser down at his gym, the one who can bench press a lot more weight than he can, is ALSO gay, he starts to worry. What if the guy came on to him? What if he wouldn't take no for an answer? A time to worry!

That idea always makes me laugh, because women have to think like that ALL THE TIME!
