Trolls on Reddit are better than trolls here, cause it's easier to get trolls banned from a subreddit than to get them blocked on IMDB, and we can also downvote them so they're out of sight, out of mind.

If anything, Reddit has much more civil and classy people than IMDb does. I haven't seen as many trolls, either.

My only problem with Reddit is that it's too crowded, I feel. Like on this board, for example, we've kinda got our own little community and I feel like I know most of the frequent posters. Even on some of the more overrun boards, like MCU boards, I knew a lot of the people there. Reddit is much more crowded and I feel like it would take much longer to start to get to know the people there. But that's just me.

There are plenty of smaller communities. r/Moana is nearly empty right now, we could migrate there and still keep the small commu7nity feel. Going to places like r/disney and other big places like that would obviously remove that feel, but there are plenty of other options if you look hard enough.

Luckily, this board has been relatively clean of trolls
Except it has been a haven for Wallfish socks since October when it comes to box office obsessions.

As annoying as that is, it is nothing compared to some of the rampant bullying and hate speech that I've seen on other boards at IMDB. I can see why they are shutting it down; it was getting toxic and must have become more of a headache over time.

True. Those things are generally problematic as well, along with spammers advertising illicit sites. I could understand if the IMDb mods also want to do away with them permanently. There are just not enough mods to go around, unfortunately.

Yes, I agree - all of the trolls contributed to the current situation. In addition to the toxic atmosphere of bullies, racists, misogynists, and homophobes, there were the offers of illegal downloads and streaming. There were also trolls that brought ratings of movies down that they had never watched and who targeted films and performers, almost campaigning against them negatively. None of this was good for anyone and I don't blame IMDB for shutting it down. It takes too much energy to deal with.

True, but I think the answer is simply dropping the boards for individual films and keeping the Main Boards that encapsulate an entire topic. That way you have all the users in one place where its easier to keep an eye on them.

Do you mean the boards that you find when you click on the link for "Message Boards" under the
"News & Community" tab? The one where things are in broader categories and not separated by individual movies? Maybe that could have worked with some modification.

I wondered about that. So he/she is really the troll. What they are doing is defamation of character and is illegal. You would have grounds in a small claims court to sue, although it can be somewhat hard to make a case. Maybe just let them know that every thing they do gives you more evidence and ammunition for a court case and to cease and desist.
