True Crime : Georgia couple steals from Walmart after tricking cashier

Georgia couple steals from Walmart after tricking cashier

A man and woman in Georgia confused a Walmart cashier in order to steal more than $6,000 in merchandise and gift cards, according to authorities.

The pair loaded a Walmart cart with a bunch of expensive items in Grovetown on Nov. 30, according to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office. When they got to the cash register, they made several card transactions, according to deputies, WRDW reported.

The two people managed to confuse the cashier when they asked that the "cash" button on the register be hit in order for their credit card to work.

The tactic then led to the merchandise getting rung up as if it would be paid for by cash, so their credit cards were not charged, WRDW reported.

They left the store with $3,400 in merchandise and $3,000 in gift cards. The sheriff’s office is calling the incident a "theft by deception."

A spokesperson for the sheriff's office told Fox News Digital on Thursday that investigators identified 19-year-old Jaylan Griggs from Flint, Michigan, as the male suspect. They have not yet identified the female suspect.

Re: Georgia couple steals from Walmart after tricking cashier

Apparently you haven't been to the store lately the price of everything is sky high everything except tv's for some reason they keep getting cheaper probably so they can force you to watch more commercials in higher definition on bigger screens and make you buy even more overpriced luxuries like food and toilet paper!

Re: Georgia couple steals from Walmart after tricking cashier

Supposedly Walmart prices are going up because so many people are stealing from stores.

Re: Georgia couple steals from Walmart after tricking cashier

Sure, that explains why the prices are going up everywhere…

They prices is so high I can afford to only steal half as much as I used to!

Keep on smiling!

Re: Georgia couple steals from Walmart after tricking cashier

lol. They always come up with stupid excuses. The excuse for the high prices everywhere used to be "high gas prices." But when gas went down, nothing else went down. I just saw a headline saying gas prices are lower now than they were a year ago.

Re: Georgia couple steals from Walmart after tricking cashier

To protest they lies and sorry excuses sometimes I make special field trips to they stores and break several merchandises while I am browsing, all accidentally of course!

Last year alone I broke several hundred thousand dollars of merchandise and used the distraction of them doing angry cleanup on busted tv displays to steal thousands of more dollars in merch mostly Snapple I cannot get enough of this delicious drink!

I do not claim to know the ins and outs of being a retail clerk, but how the fuck would that work?

" Uhhhh, my card wont work until the register thinks i am paying with cash, but it will work once it thinks that, trust me…..i'm a moron "

Re: Georgia couple steals from Walmart after tricking cashier

It makes no sense, since the cashier would've noticed there was no cash.

I wonder if their scam would've worked at the self-checkout.

Re: Georgia couple steals from Walmart after tricking cashier

I wonder if it would have worked with a cashier with even the basic level of intelligence

lol, maybe it was his/her first day.

Re: Georgia couple steals from Walmart after tricking cashier

And probably his/her's LAST day too, tbh.

Re: Georgia couple steals from Walmart after tricking cashier

Yep

Re: Georgia couple steals from Walmart after tricking cashier

"I wonder if their scam would've worked at the self-checkout."

Have you ever done self checkout?

Only way to steal stuff is by not self scanning it.
Which I have done but not on purpose or at times when the thing was malfunctioning and it was the only way to correct it.

So I doubt they would have gotten away with that much from self.

You are a criminal. A criminal shoplifter, like a teenage girl.

How am I not surprised?

I bet you got some pretty lipsticks in you stealing sprees, faggot of the homosexual variety.

Re: Georgia couple steals from Walmart after tricking cashier

I've used self-checkouts before. I was wondering if they could've chosen the "cash" option and then scanned their credit card the way they did with the cashier.

Re: Georgia couple steals from Walmart after tricking cashier

I dunno what theirs is like.
I suspect if I tried it where I shop then the pin pad does not come on for credit/debit cards.

One of them must have been a cashier, knows of one or watched them very carefully to pull this off.

You ever see the excellent movie Paper Moon?
Each person, (Dad and daughter) at two different times pulls a scam acting like they are breaking a larger bill with smaller ones which leaves them with a few more dollars than they started with.
Another one is pulled using a large bill and ending up with money as well.
Both are pulled on unsuspecting cashiers.
I can't explain them.
You would have to watch the movie.
Oh yeah.
It has other really good parts too like all the rest of them!

Re: Georgia couple steals from Walmart after tricking cashier

It's been a while since I watched it. I remember The Simpsons referencing the Bible scam, though.

The scam you mentioned reminds me of scenes in some TV shows, where someone pays another person, then asks for change back, then makes it really confusing by exchanging money back and forth (e.g., saying they made a mistake and need to start over to get or give the right change back); so they end up leaving with the money they started with, getting free food or merchandise.

Re: Georgia couple steals from Walmart after tricking cashier

The bagging area knows if an item has been put in a bag without being scanned though so not sure how you'd get away with that.

Re: Georgia couple steals from Walmart after tricking cashier

This was one that had a conveyer belt where the weight detected is instead in the bagging area.

Not like I really wanted to but it left me with very little choice out of frustration.
No guilt on my end.

Re: Georgia couple steals from Walmart after tricking cashier

The cashier should be charged
with aiding and abetting. No exceptions.

Re: Georgia couple steals from Walmart after tricking cashier

Maybe the cashier was just dumb.
