Religion, Faith, and Spirituality : I really don't understand the need for church….

I really don't understand the need for church….

One can do the very same things/rituals at home and it would be no different.
I could hold my own communion by breaking bread, drinking wine if I believed in that sort of thing and it would be the same as long as I felt a sacred or spiritual bond to it.
I could sing. Read some wisdom from the bible. Boom. I just did church.

I guess those who go to church are somehow part of a cult where they feel like they have to be with others and have been brainwashed that it takes someone ordained in made up ways by humans that minister, reverend or priest somehow makes it real to them when it is real even if you do it at home with yourself or others with any regular schlub who leads it.

That is the problem with religion.
Most of them have participants who just dunno how to be free thinkers.

Re: I really don't understand the need for church….

It's a relic of a time where it was a means to keep a group bound together, which ensured greater survival, and so those with those behaviors were more successful in spreading their genes. Today that need to belong to something is still within us and because religion is dominant in many cultures, that is where many flock to. Everyone has a strong desire to fit in.

I'm all for keeping the sense of community, the rituals and songs, but like throw out the dumb beliefs. I sometimes visit an old Catholic church and light a candle for lost loved ones. Just a symbolic comfort thing.
