The Soapbox : Money

Money

I feel like I'm betting money by not working.

I just bought toilet paper, since the man in charge doesn't like giving me more than one roll a month or week.

I got a $10 daily/hourly planner.

I got a backpack since the bag I have is more like a backpack purse but you can't put things like groceries in it and it doesn't look good at the gym, neither? I've been carrying groceries. I like the backpack, $30. I bought it quickly since there were only 3 left, looked it over and like it but can return it.

I did skip buying contact lenses, have like a bit more than 1/2 month's worse, but
I dislike going out and the mask fogging up my glasses, though the vaccine is finished settling now, since it takes 2 weeks to be effective to its utmost.

I'm supposed to get more benefits, too, but it may take awhile, need an appointment with my case worker, should come in the mail.

The lady in charge of the group home said I shouldn't bring my laptop on the bus because someone might take it, so maybe this backpack is safer. It's actually suitable for college students, not for kids, it says. The other bag is a bit dressy for what I wear, too. So, obviously, I could move all my stuff there if I make it to church … choirs starting up since the pandemic.

Re: Money

It looks like it’s a pretty nice daypack Christina. The charging port is a nice touch.

Sounds like the place that you’re staying at is pretty minimalist when it comes to just about anything comfort related. Hopefully you will get a case worker fairly soon, and can find more appropriate housing for your needs.

If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.

Re: Money

Thanks!

As long as it's better than here and I can practice my violin and hopefully have my own room and sleep whenever I want…

I don't like being tight on money, but if I can't go into sales whole-heartedly I don't believe I'd fare well at a job like at a store or many hours doing the same thing.

Re: Money

That sucks.

Meanwhile I got billed $2.5k for an MRI that apparently is out of network. But they told me it wasn’t.

Fucking money probs, man. I mean,

Christina.

Re: Money

Out of network doesn’t mean the insurer shouldn’t pay it. Just they don’t have an agreed upon contracted payment plan with the hospital. You have to play middle man between provider and payer and get them to agree on a payment.

I had to do it when I had a surgery. My surgeon was in network but my anesthesiologist wasn’t. I appealed and bitched out Blue Cross until they finally cut the check

Did this approach work in your situation?

Re: Money

Well maybe I am at fault, technically. My provider is in network. They sent me out of network after implying they’d checked with insurance that I was covered.

In retrospect I should’ve contacted the insurer and checked with them. Hell I’d have checked twice. After all the procedures and bullshit I’ve had this last year, I’ve always had the doctors office being proactive about alerting me to insurance issues. Either way, my fault or not, I’ll make every effort to get the insurer to pay.

It's a shame that the patient basically often has to be the adult between two idiot organizations lol

Re: Money

I like what you’re saying.

Yeah I read a few guides about how to deal with this BS. I’ve already asked them to consider a one-time exception as I was lead to believe I was covered at that facility. And I will for sure appeal if that fails.

Re: Money

I hope it works out. In my experience, they don't really bow down to what they consider "mistakes."

My sister is a healthcare consultant so she handles these things for a living. With her help, I (1) requested an itemized bill from the provider (e.g. the charges for the MRI, interpretation, miscellaneous other charges and their associated medical code) and then she (2) looked up what is known as the UCR (Usual, Customary, and Reasonable) rate. I believe she used a percentage of Medicare rates (like 300% of the Medicare rate), but the FAIR Health organization is supposed to be the "gold standard" of determining UCR. Once both parties agree on the UCR, then the matter can be settled.

Re: Money

Wonderful. I’ll make a project of it.

Re: Money

Yeah, I never ignore an EOB, even if it’s considered paid in full. Both sides do a lot of shady stuff (like charging a copayment for a preventative care visit when that’s 100% illegal). It definitely pays to understand medical billing and what’s legally allowed.

Re: Money

Btw, this is a practice known as balance billing. It’s illegal in a lot of states.

If I remember your state correctly, it should be illegal in yours too.
