Many front-line workers refuse Covid vaccines

https://www.yahoo.com/news/many-frontline-workers-refuse-covid-201555764.html

A large percentage of front-line workers in hospitals and nursing homes have refused to take the Covid-19 vaccine, a hurdle for public health officials as the country struggles to roll out inoculations around the country.

About 50 percent of front-line workers in California’s Riverside County have refused to take the vaccine, Riverside Public Health Director Kim Saruwatari told The Los Angeles Times on Thursday. California is currently overwhelmed with cases as hospital staff in Southern California face a shortage of intensive-care units and have created makeshift units.

Anecdotally, an estimated 60 percent of Ohio nursing home employees have refused the vaccine already, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine said during a news briefing Wednesday.

A survey of 2,053 New York City firefighters found that more than half said they would refuse the Covid-19 vaccine when it became available to them, according to a poll released by the Uniformed Firefighters Association this month.

I know three nurses, and NONE of them will take it. One said she'll take it if they make her, and one said she'll quit, because she takes medication and says she knows the vaccine will have a ton of side effects, and how many will take years to discover. She went on to say (some which I didn't understand) how and why those side effects won't have symptoms.

Re: Many front-line workers refuse Covid vaccines

Too many people are ill informed idiots, including your nurse friends.

Someone I've very close to is an actual qualified expert in infectious disease control, has been closely following all the news on this subject, and not only is eager to get the vaccine, but immediately insisted I do so myself.

Re: Many front-line workers refuse Covid vaccines

Well, Aj IS a front-line worker.. Did you read his comment below?

https://www.scribd.com/document/382737647/MortSahlFan-Song-List

Re: Many front-line workers refuse Covid vaccines

Yes.

No evidence of prevalent or permanent side effects was presented (that claim is just bullshit pure and simple) and without knowing further details about the nature of the tests and their timing, we don't know if these folks were infected pre-vaccine or if the tests were false positives BECAUSE of the vaccine, which like all vaccines works by introducing elements of the target germ into the subject's body.

Re: Many front-line workers refuse Covid vaccines

Re: Many front-line workers refuse Covid vaccines

At no point did I even remotely suggest that AJ lied about anything. I have no idea how you could possibly have reasoned yourself into that interpretation.

Re: Many front-line workers refuse Covid vaccines

Some people reported experiencing an allergic reaction while others have not. This is all I have paid attention to thus far. I get very current and detailed news slipped to me. So..I think the general public is not stupid. It is that THEY DO NOT understand how this virus is spread. They do not know if they are infected. The symptoms of covid-19 mimic that of the flu, the common cold and pneumonia or seasonal allergies!!
None of which are as contagious as covid-19

That's why the general public has to be TAUGHT how to protect themselves from the virus.

Re: Many front-line workers refuse Covid vaccines

Two of my coworkers took the vaccine and then tested COVID positive a week later.

Draw your own conclusions.

Re: Many front-line workers refuse Covid vaccines

Re: Many front-line workers refuse Covid vaccines

I’m going to clarify I am in no way advocating against taking the vaccine. I still intend to take the second dose. But I can’t be as supportive about it as I was initially.

And as other people have pointed out, the full protection provided by the vaccine doesn’t occur until the second dose. There are multiple reasons why this could have happened.

But again I wanted to clarify I am at this time not against anyone taking it.

Re: Many front-line workers refuse Covid vaccines

It takes a while to take effect. You can still get the virus in the immediate aftermath.

Hep: "I'll post a topless picture if you do the same ;)"

Re: Many front-line workers refuse Covid vaccines

It’s also possible they acquired the second strain that has just recently been reported.

We may never know exactly why they still got sick. But I am being honest about it happening and I respect anyone’s decision not to take it’ as long as they still follow the guidelines about masks and social distancing.

Re: Many front-line workers refuse Covid vaccines

What I've read is that the vaccine is taken in two doses and isn't effective until the second dose. It also doesn't contain any active covid.

Conclusion - they most likely caught it whilst working, hospitals are rife with it.

My heart bleeds for him, as a child. Someone took a kid and manufactured a monster. At the same time, as an adult, he's irredeemable.

Re: Many front-line workers refuse Covid vaccines

They didn’t just test positive. They also had symptoms. Both are still off on medical leave (they get 10 days automatically approved) and both reported losing their sense of taste and smell.

I honestly can’t explain away why they still got sick. We may never know. And I’m certainly not an anti-vaxxer moving forward. But it’s hard to not be troubled by this happening.

These are two people I work with most. I immediately got a rapid nasal test which was negative. And although I can’t be as enthusiastic about the vaccine as I was before I will still take the second dose.

But I do respect each person’s right to choose.

Re: Many front-line workers refuse Covid vaccines

Vaccines contain the live virus and medicated if I remember correctly and it is the strain from the previous outbreak.

Re: Many front-line workers refuse Covid vaccines

Wrong.

Keep looking.

Donna should be banned from Filmboards for spreading covid misinformation. It’s an extremely dangerous thing to do.

I’m going to raise her warning level I think.

Re: Many front-line workers refuse Covid vaccines

She should go from a Threat Level Yellow to a Threat Level Red. They’re going to have to invent a new color, however, once she passes that. Which will be soon

Re: Many front-line workers refuse Covid vaccines

How about Dark Brown?

Oh forget you! and your stupid fucking friends!

Spreading misinformation is not a crimeon me. I am not a fucking reporter. Filmboards aint a newspaper or the media. Lol

You should always fact check anyway.

Also how is a whore like monicah working in home healthcare and on the side, showing off her puss and ass to these losers up on here?!

Pathetic.

All I know is how to keep myself safe. Fuck you. And don't watch me either since you think I am being misinformative and the alerts I receive are fake and the news I get is fake and there aren't as many people in the stores or even waiting outsise the stores anymore because every single time people get together and wearing the wrong type of mask, they get each other sick.

So don't take the vaccine!! I don't give a fuck anymore.
Lol and neither does doctors or nurses cuz they don't wanna get infected and they don't want to liable for someone catching covid-19 while in the hospital for something unrelated.

And since hospitals cannot legally (a law) turn away patients, they gotta treat you.

You thibk they really care?

Re: Many front-line workers refuse Covid vaccines

Kill! Kill the Donna!!!

Cheerio.

Re: Many front-line workers refuse Covid vaccines

You haven't reached maximum immunity until two weeks after getting the vaccine. Even then, you don't have full immunity until you get the booster and wait another two weeks after that.

Re: Many front-line workers refuse Covid vaccines

I surely hope that you are not attempting to justify that one Healthcare worker that allowed 500 doses of the vaccine to expire??

People have a right to at least take the vaccine.

Its inhumane and criminal for nurses who take it upon themselves, to destroy 500 doses of a vaccine, someone's money paid for and the people who volunteered their plasma to make the vaccine.

Re: Many front-line workers refuse Covid vaccines

Honestly, for a very long time medical professionals have been looking like the bad guys in the game of life.

I remember when a lot of medical doctors and dentists were going on killing sprees.

Obama's Affordable Healthcare Act really brought out the nasty in medical professionals. So much hatred. It was all too obviously that they were in the profession for the money first, saving lives last priority. They get paid either way.

It's the nature of their occupation. We just have to learn to let them have their way or they will make our lives miserable.

Re: Many front-line workers refuse Covid vaccines

There's always going to be the risk of side-effects - there was that risk pre-COVID, for other vaccinations and for some people, and there will be after the pandemic.

But as a society as a whole if you want to reduce lockdowns and physical distancing you better hope that enough people get vaccinated. We just gotta hope that the vaccines are effective.

Re: Many front-line workers refuse Covid vaccines

I plan on continuing the same life.. Staying home, ordering groceries, washing my hands afterwards, hell, even wearing a mask as I go outside to get the bags left on my porch (a minute or two after they leave).

I'm not going to risk my physical/mental health.

Re: Many front-line workers refuse Covid vaccines

Me too. I haven't had even a cold since March, and I normally get strept throat or bronchitis once a year. So the mask and even gloves will stay, at least on public transit, methinks.

But I miss being in the same room with family and friends, and for some things, with work colleagues, so I plan on that going back to normal.

Re: Many front-line workers refuse Covid vaccines

Touch wood, I haven’t had a cold in a very long time either. I used to get colds quite frequently, particularly when I initially moved to London.

Re: Many front-line workers refuse Covid vaccines

We have a lot of people from China, Hong Kong, South Korea, and other Asian countries here. Post SARS, for years we used to see all these guys still wearing masks around town, on the buses and planes, and it was a mildly alarming image. Now I think that we are in the position those countries were, post their pandemics, and I think that you will just continue to see people wear masks around at times, particularly if they have a virus and they don't want it to spread (courteous).

Re: Many front-line workers refuse Covid vaccines

Earlier on in the pandemic, I was at Heathrow Airport and a large group of Chinese dudes were on my flight, decked head to toe in hazmat suits. They looked like they were ready for Chernobyl .

It was quite disconcerting.

Hep: "I'll post a topless picture if you do the same ;)"

Re: Many front-line workers refuse Covid vaccines

It used to actually annoy me to see these guys get on a plane with their masks or other gear on. Hazmat suit would bug me (!), but now I would understand the mask.

Re: Many front-line workers refuse Covid vaccines

In all of March and April I had flu-like symptoms. It didn't go away until we had warm weather. The first week was what I'd call a bad-flu, so bad I couldn't even sit on my couch I was so weak, and would like on the floor of my living room, listening to TV. But for another 7 weeks, I had body aches, chills, fatigue.

I felt this way for a week last month, but I started taking more Tylenol, and it kinda went away. I had a stressful event and felt like that again. Odd, because I've had much more stress, but never had those symptoms, usually it was chest pain.

Re: Many front-line workers refuse Covid vaccines

Have you considered that it could have been pneumonia? That also affects your mood, you get depressed.

Re: Many front-line workers refuse Covid vaccines

I've had pneumonia before. I didn't have a cough, runny nose, congested chest.. Just the aches, chills, fatigue, and it wasn't that bad, but going on for so long drove me nuts.

Now I remember the first time it was starting to go away.. I walked to the gas station and some idiot sneezed twice, and he was by the door, so I had to go through. I wore my mask, but I remember the first time feeling bad was the day after going shopping…. I've been on lockdown more or less, so I think my body's immune system is weaker than ever. Every time I felt sick was a result of coming in contact with people I didn't know in a confined space. Never felt like that when I was around people I knew, even a friend who I didn't see in months.

Exactly. Some states send out emergency text messages to your phone letting you know the risk level and how to adjust your behavior. So like on NYE, the emergency warning stated not to gather with groups of people you do not know.

Re: Many front-line workers refuse Covid vaccines

Did you go to a doctor? Being ill for that long isn’t normal.

Hep: "I'll post a topless picture if you do the same ;)"

Re: Many front-line workers refuse Covid vaccines

We just gotta hope that the vaccines are effective.

We also have to hope the "protection" lasts a long time. What if it wears off after a few months? How long will it take for everyone to realize the protection is wearing off and that everyone has to get re-vaccinated?

Re: Many front-line workers refuse Covid vaccines

Yes, that too. I think that most measures will be in place for most of the year, given that.

Re: Many front-line workers refuse Covid vaccines

They are being sabotaged! It's not going to be fun.

Re: Many front-line workers refuse Covid vaccines

Always interesting to see the careful plans of governments run up against how people actually behave.

Re: Many front-line workers refuse Covid vaccines

I will also refuse the vaccine until the long term effects are studied and well known. I don't mind the mask in the slightest and will continue to happily wear it until I'm convinced it's safe. I'm no anti-vaxxer (in fact I'm all for them) I am, however, anti- minimally-tested-drugs.

Proudly offering too-close encounters since 1977.

Re: Many front-line workers refuse Covid vaccines

My cousin and her co-workers at the coroner's office are refusing to get the vaccine as well. They are choosing to wait until more is known about the long term side-effects. She suffers from Bell's Palsy, so that's another reason why she's refusing the vaccine for now.

According to her, the bodies are beginning to stack up at the morgue because the funeral homes and families refuse to come get them out of fear of contracting COVID.

Every nurse I know personally has taken the vaccine.

Re: Many front-line workers refuse Covid vaccines

Speaking again based solely on my own personal experience, about half of our ER nurses opted not to take the vaccine. One told me it was due to her not having had a child yet and feeling safer waiting until more time has passed.

When I heard only half of our ER nurses were willing to take the vaccine I was pretty shocked though. They have some of the highest exposure to the virus compared to the other employees.

Re: Many front-line workers refuse Covid vaccines

Probably because the survival rate is over 99% and not at all dangerous for most people, which is known, and the effects of the vaccine are still relatively unknown.

Re: Many front-line workers refuse Covid vaccines

Re: Many front-line workers refuse Covid vaccines

Discounting the long-term and serious but non-fatal effects, of course!
