The Affair : Why didn't Helen answer?

Why didn't Helen answer?

When Noah's sister was calling back after she left a lengthy message about Noah, she should have answered so they could have talked about getting Noah out of there. It would have reduced the tension between her, Vic, and the kids if she had gotten that little extra help. Was she holding off just to keep Noah around longer to get into bed with him or was she just in no mood to talk after arguing with Whitney?

Re: Why didn't Helen answer?

Helen doesn't want to get Noah out of there. She wants him to stay there so she can take care of him and have him back in her life. She's happy he's so messed up and "needs" her. Of course, she might feel differently after they had sex. Not sure what happened there - was he too rough?

Re: Why didn't Helen answer?

The sex scene might have been another hallucination from Noah's point of view. I think I have to watch it again because in Helen's POV the sex scene seemed to have stopped and then went to Noah's POV, so I wonder if he stopped because he couldn't go on or we didn't see what Helen was actually going through which was what we saw in Noah's POV.

This last half of the season has gotten pretty trippy.

Re: Why didn't Helen answer?

From Helen's POV, they were having sex and then Noah sort of stops or she sees something in this face and she asks, "what's wrong?" We don't see what happened next in her POV. In Noah's POV what happens next is that he gets rough and makes Helen cry. Not sure what's going on.

Re: Why didn't Helen answer?

I interpreted it as in Helen's POV, he is staring at her like he's in a trance when he stops, and she doesn't know why. In Noah's POV, she keeps insisting she knows him (which he's hallucinating), so he continues to get angrier and more violent as his resentment and guilt get stronger. no one really knows him!!! (Yawn) The end of Helen's POV is her puzzled reaction to what we eventually find out is Noah's hallucination.

Re: Why didn't Helen answer?

It took me a sec to wonder how that sex scene was so different from their POVs. You'd think if it turned downhill so badly Helen would remember it, but the rough sex was from Noah'a POV and it was intermingled with his time in solitaire. Norway describes it best (this thread). I swear, I don't know if I can trust anything from
noah's POV anymore. He was always the one that saw all the women in his life as wanting him and flirting with him in the previous seasons. He was already narcissistic and kinda unreliable but throw legitimate hallucinations in the mix and I'm like ugh! screw this.

Re: Why didn't Helen answer?

My take is that both Helen and Noah are confused after the experience of killing Scotty.

Helen feels guilty because she was driving. She feels that Noah went to prison because of her. She is confusing her guilt with love for Noah as her kids' father and her ex-husband. Although she still loves him, I think she is feeling more guilt than love.

Noah is angry for having been caught between both Helen and Alison. Noah didn't want either woman to go to jail. But only Alison knows the truth. Personally, I think Noah did it more for Alison than Helen, even though his reasons for "helping" Helen as the mother of his children were noble. It would not have been right to sacrifice Helen when in fact, Alison pushed Scotty into the road at the exact same time that the car hit him. Helen did not have time to stop, drunk or sober. It was a simultaneous action.

I also think Noah did not share this info with Helen because he knows her well and that she would have ratted Alison out to the authorities. I like Helen, but I do believe she would have told.

Noah was trapped by the 2 women in his life, then trapped in jail with a psycho prison guard. Now he is a mess.

He was trapped before this by his mom, who we are led to believe gave him an out by taking her own life. But Noah fell back into the same trap with Helen, and blowing up his life was the only way he knew to get out. I don't think Alison was seen as a goal, but only as a means.
