Music General : Why do Brits love Oasis so much
Re: Why do Brits love Oasis so much
Why do Americans love putting lard on pop tarts? It's just one of those things I guess.

Re: Why do Brits love Oasis so much
Lard on pop tarts? Unless "lard" is one of those quaint British-isms, Americans do not smear pig fat on pop tarts.

Re: Why do Brits love Oasis so much
Yeah, I wondered about that too. That's Dane though right? Don't expect it to make much sense.
Re: Why do Brits love Oasis so much
I suspect he's talking about frosting on pop tarts. I would just like him to clarify the British words though.

Re: Why do Brits love Oasis so much
I suppose people who bought their stuff outside the UK just did it as a way to financially support our tiny little nation.
Re: Why do Brits love Oasis so much
They sold a couple albums early on, but that was due to hype surrounding the band being labeled as the next Beatles. No one bought any Oasis albums after that. Right Said Fred had a bigger impact on the world.
Re: Why do Brits love Oasis so much
Oh well, I’m not mad about them either but don’t all countries have their strange tastes and customs that other countries don’t understand?
Re: Why do Brits love Oasis so much
This is wildly popular opinion of non - Brits. Americans only fell in love with Wonderwall but largely ignore the rest of Oasis’ discography. Truth is , they are a good , not great band. Most of their stuff is hit or miss.

I think I may perhaps be the exception. Never listened to them, never wanted to, never will.

Re: Why do Brits love Oasis so much
They’re pretty good. I really dig some of their songs. But they were far from being the best British rock band in the 90s.
I live. I die. I live again.

Re: Why do Brits love Oasis so much
They're good
Re: Why do Brits love Oasis so much
Oasis are easily the greatest band of all time and that’s the end of it as far as I’m concerned.
It wasn’t just about the music: they created a genre, they created a time, they created personalities that will live on forever.
We will never see the likes of Liam and Noel again. Cocaine snorting, lager drinking, Marlboro smoking, women shagging, banger bringing legends. The swagger, the style, the charisma.
For so many British youngsters Oasis were an introduction to music, and what an intro it was

Re: Why do Brits love Oasis so much
England has a lot of great bands. Oasis is not one of them.
Never heard them but I've certainly heard of them. I don't think they had a huge impact on Gen Xers. That said, I love The Beatles, The Stones, The Who, Fairport Convention, The Clash, The Stranglers, Motorhead, Throbbing Gristle, Joy Division, etc. Britain has given us so many great and groundbreaking bands.

Re: Why do Brits love Oasis so much
Honestly, I don't know anyone in my age range (late 40s/early 50s) who gives a shit about them. Maybe if I was younger I would have been into them when they were popular.
Re: Why do Brits love Oasis so much
Their songs are boring. It doesn't help that almost every song has Liam's nasally drone. From what I have heard he doesn't seem to be a very dynamic singer and it tires out my ears. He was probably pissy all the time because he knew he brought nothing to the band. I don't know why they were so big in Britain. My guess is they were another Tavistock plot to enslave the minds of the youth.
Re: Why do Brits love Oasis so much
That's kind of how I feel about them. I can handle whiney voices but the music has to be interesting or more my kind of thing. Oasis is just…ugh for me. But I can see why they're so popular.

Not one single person outside of England listens to them, nor ever has.
I like Oasis and listen to them. I'm American.

Re: Why do Brits love Oasis so much
Lmaoooo that is a good fucking question
Re: Why do Brits love Oasis so much
I just need to copy and paste the first part of their wiki to prove what a mongo you are
Oasis signed to independent record label Creation Records in 1993 and released their record-setting debut album Definitely Maybe (1994). The following year the band recorded (What's the Story) Morning Glory? (1995) with drummer Alan White, in the midst of a chart rivalry with Britpop peers Blur. (What's the Story) Morning Glory? became one of the best-selling albums of all time, selling over 22 million copies worldwide, and the Gallagher brothers were featured regularly in tabloid newspapers for their sibling disputes and wild lifestyles. In 1996, Oasis performed two nights at Knebworth for an audience of 125,000 each night, which were at the time the largest outdoor concerts in UK history. 2.5 million people applied for tickets, which remains the highest demand for a show in British history. In 1997, Oasis released their third album, Be Here Now (1997); although it was the fastest-selling album in UK chart history, and went on to sell 8 million copies, its popularity tapered off quickly.
