Classic Film : Gone with the Wind (1939).

Gone with the Wind (1939).

Gone with the Wind is a sentimental, timeless classic that was way ahead of its time that managed to arouse a number of emotions out of me. Vivian Leigh, Clark Gable and Olivia de Havilland all had stellar performances, too.

Who else here remembers this old movie?

Re: Gone with the Wind (1939).

Have you read the books?

Well, this is a tomb. I'll make them feel at home

Re: Gone with the Wind (1939).

I read them a while back, but I hardly remember any of them, besides the original Gone with the Wind novel. How about yourself?

Re: Gone with the Wind (1939).

I've read them while I was still school, back in 2004

Re: Gone with the Wind (1939).

What did you think of the movie? The actress who played Scarlett, Vivian, was a dame at 25 in that movie.

Re: Gone with the Wind (1939).

I remember seen it on the national TV network in Black and white, but I didn't payed attention too much

Re: Gone with the Wind (1939).

Fair enough. It’s almost a four hour movie after all, lol.

Re: Gone with the Wind (1939).

Why in Romania were you reading books about the confederate treasonous part of the United States????

Probably lives in a confederate state. Free stater here.

Re: Gone with the Wind (1939).

I'm curious about that too.
I'd love to know about that.

Don’t expect a straight up answer from our little Romanian buddy. He will likely roll his eyes at all of us.

Re: Gone with the Wind (1939).

Most likely.
Have a good weekend.

Re: Gone with the Wind (1939).

Even though I remember enjoying the movie, I never felt an urge to rewatch it. Ever! I guess I'm just too much horror trash.

Re: Gone with the Wind (1939).

I usually watch it whenever I have four hours that I need to kill, lol.

“There are no atheists in foxholes, eh?”-Keith Jennings from the Omen.

Re: Gone with the Wind (1939).

I really only just watched it the once and that was enough. Not that it wasn't great… I just find it hard to explain why I wouldn't rewatch it.

Re: Gone with the Wind (1939).

My all time favorite movie. I have lost count how many times I have watched it.

Re: Gone with the Wind (1939).

My all time favorite movie.

It ranks up there for me, as it was a flawless piece of cinematography in black and white. Very few movies hold up as well 80 years later, lol. It ages better than wine.

Re: Gone with the Wind (1939).

What do you mean by black and white?

Re: Gone with the Wind (1939).

The original version of Gone with the Wind was made in black and white.

“There are no atheists in foxholes, eh?”-Keith Jennings from the Omen.

Re: Gone with the Wind (1939).

Interesting, I never knew this. In your opinion, how does the original b/w version compare to later one with color?

Re: Gone with the Wind (1939).

I prefer the colored version simply because of the fact that the textures look a bit more lively, and probably because I didn’t watch the original version first. The black and white version is worth a watch as well though.

Re: Gone with the Wind (1939).

The original version was in color, and it was the first big movie to have been entirely in Technicolor. The Wizard of OZ was partially in black and white, or sepia, so not entirely in color.
I checked this out, because I'm really interested in GWTW.

Re: Gone with the Wind (1939).

So basically he lied to me? Hmmm…

Re: Gone with the Wind (1939).

The black and white version wasn’t the original version?

“There are no atheists in foxholes, eh?”-Keith Jennings from the Omen.

Re: Gone with the Wind (1939).

I don't think there was ever a black and white version. Did you watch it on a black and white TV?

Re: Gone with the Wind (1939).

I watched a televised version of it that was in black and white.

Re: Gone with the Wind (1939).

On a color TV? That's interesting. I learn something new every day.

Re: Gone with the Wind (1939).

You two are so cute.
What else do you cute kids share?🤔

One of my all time favourites. I have the limited edition 75th anniversary blu ray 4 disc box set.

Re: Gone with the Wind (1939).

I only have it on DVD 😢 lol

Have you ever read any of the books before?

No. But you say "books" plural. Is there more than one?

Re: Gone with the Wind (1939).

There was a sequel called Scarlett

Re: Gone with the Wind (1939).

You’re correct about that. Scarlett is decent if you view it as a stand-alone novel, otherwise it was painfully average writing.

Remember when and why nyc claimed it was your favourite movie?

Re: Gone with the Wind (1939).

Lol. In the Darren Costa pic there was a "Gone with the Wind" poster on his wall. If he wanted a more accurate portrayal he should have had a "Metropolis" poster in the background. Breeder romance is not really my thing.
