Things only have meaning when we give them meaning.

There's no meaning to anything.

I have explained how you are a troll by your own admission.

Do words have meaning or do they not?

We've been over this. Presumably you've made a half dozen new threads because you didn't like the answer you were given, but it was nevertheless FACT (of the colored variety).

Re: Does someone being accused of a troll automatically make them a troll?

This is a very poststructuralist discussion.

Re: Does someone being accused of a troll automatically make them a troll?

I was thinking more along the lines of the literary movement, but the philosophical ideas align well enough.

Basically, Monicah, it argues the validity / efficacy of language and its prescribed meaning. Say the word "dog" and everyone thinks of the same general animal, but likewise imagines different breeds. Broken down into its barest elements, poststructuralism posits that words are lies.

Re: Does someone being accused of a troll automatically make them a troll?

poststructuralism posits that words are lies.
The thread topic is a silly one, but I love your point. All words are subjective interpretations and describe nothing objective.

What you call "air" I might call "nitrogen and oxygen with trace gases".

Re: Does someone being accused of a troll automatically make them a troll?

I don't subscribe to poststructuralism, but I'll play devil's advocate here. Words are placeholders. Air to the scientifically illiterate is not the same as "nitrogen and oxygen with trace gases," and they would not understand the second ascription as being a placeholder for the same substance they know to be "air" unless the correlation was made for them. If I say the word "purse," or even "a small, red purse with a black silk handle," we won't be imagining the same bag, as there is no actual purse there for our brains to interpret. There is no objectivity in language.

Re: Does someone being accused of a troll automatically make them a troll?

There is only a sameness to the terms when you have learned to identify it. There is objectivity in objects, hence the name, but there is none used in the language used to describe them. Concepts, abstractions, and other linguistic properties are all individualized based on the experiences and brain capacity of the person either expressing or interpreting them. Language is nothing but subjectivity. If it wasn't, there would never be misunderstandings between people.

Plato hated poets for a reason.

Re: Does someone being accused of a troll automatically make them a troll?

I could also call your purse a leather pouch. Purse carries a connotation, and in our society especially that it belongs to a female. Where in reality, objectively, it's just folded material for carrying objects. The words themselves are arbitrary and carry no objective meaning besides what we give them. Obviously a purse doesn't have XX chromosomes and a vagina. Why do we consider it feminine?

For the sake of consistency can we please keep this contained into one thread? We can call it something half-assed like 'Monicah's Pet Peeves' and it'll save you making the exact same differently worded thread for the umpteenth time in a row.

To antagonize (others) online by deliberately posting inflammatory, irrelevant, or offensive comments or other disruptive content

A dwarf or giant in Scandinavian folklore inhabiting caves or hills

Re: Does someone being accused of a troll automatically make them a troll?

I'm beginning to think you're right, Monicah. May I call you Monicah? Brenda, hear me out. Awarding colors is a balancing act between making your posters feel appreciated while keeping them (the colors, that is) scarce enough they're still considered a highly valued commodity. If everyone has them they're meaningless. It is a carrot being dangled; a golden star to strive for. What else is there? When you receive your colors you will likely leave. We can't have that.

Every decision nimda makes is strategically in the interest of retaining as many mindless post generating monkeys as possible. This bleeds over to other areas, too. Mod selection: why is there a seemingly perfect spread between Soapboxers, TWD/GOT, Moviechat, etc. users as staff? Is this merely an innocent matter of diversification, or is there a more sinister scheme lurking beneath the surface? Namely; nimda, whom I will henceforth intermittently refer to as Lucifer, is manipulating each sect by presenting them the idea we're each represented and governed by our own people. As well modship in itself (ie power, authority) is enticement for posters that would otherwise leave (Twiz, Gameboy, and so on) to continue doing Lord Satan's bidding. We are imprisoned. Fuck you and your colors and your revolver and your birthday, nimda.

It's basic psychology.

No man. Nimda is a genius. I tried to do the same thing on fools Russian. Remember when I gave you those e-trophies? I did it every time you were nice all day. It's positive reinforcement. Nimda's doing the same thing with the colors. He's probably a preschool teacher irl

No, they're just trying to get under your skin. You can either ignore them, or fire back.
I normally choose to fire back. And btw, I don't think you're a troll.

Re: Does someone being accused of a troll automatically make them a troll?

When I said you were a troll I meant you were pretending to care about the colors and firing people up on purpose. It had nothing to do with cyber bullying in this case. You said yourself you were over exaggerating on purpose, and comments like "I'm being punished for being better than everyone else here?" or repeating the same thing multiple times/purposefully misunderstanding comments while the people around you get annoyed just scream "troll."

Clearly I was wrong. Unless this is a deeper level of troll.

Excuse me while I do something less frustrating, like trying to teach a spider how to talk or pulling off my own toenails with my teeth.
