Terrifier : What a misogynistic piece of trash.

What a misogynistic piece of trash.

I wish I could erase this from my memory. There is nothing redeemable about this movie. There is no plot. There are no relatable characters that you root for - they're all made to be stupider than 80s movie stupid, with their back turned at all the wrong times.

It doesn't identify itself as a spoof enough to be a dark comedy, and it is too (intentionally) cliche with its characters making horrible "white people horror movie" decisions to be taken seriously. It's stuck somewhere in the middle - unsure of itself. It tries to have it both ways. It's called a "throwback the 70s/80s slasher horror" - what exactly are they throwing back, here? The 80s horror sexism? It's too lame to be scary. The characters are ridiculously stupid and you've already given up on them once you realize what this is.

The reason 70s/80s slasher flicks have their place is the way they used practical effects to show dismemberments, decapitations, stabbings, eye gouges, etc all without computerization. Even if this was a good movie, it offers nothing to do the genre.

There is no strong protagonist in this movie. The movie cares more about its villain (or…protagonist?) Any character other than the killer clown only exists to be killed in a graphic way. This is what distinguishes a good horror film from a bad one - a strong protagonist. Halloween had Laurie Strode and Loomis. Child's Play had Andy Barclay. The film is siding with its villain.

And the kills. I kid you not, before the first kill, Art goes to the bathroom to fling his shit and piss all over the walls. Oh how shocking, poop! Who made this, a freshman in high school? There was no narrative purpose for it other than immature shock value.

And the misogyny. There are no male characters other than cliche extras - the pizza shop employee, the maintenance man, the landlord; The director and writer doesn't want to put any male characters in the film because he's obsessed with isolating women to be prey, making them make ridiculously horrible decisions. But with the men that do appear, they're made to be of sound mind: all the women are crazy in some way.

More emphasis and time is spent on the female deaths. When Art the clown kills men, he kills them relatively instantly. Stabbing through the brain, stomping their head in. But when he kills women, he makes a point to slowly torture them….and then, strapping one up naked, and slicing her in half starting with her vagina. Another, he cuts off her chest skin and wears her breasts on his body as a costume. The men are simply killed. The women are tortured and their corpses are sexualized.

Even the set designs looked cheap as hell. Even the hospital at the end looked like the same warehouse they were just at, just quickly redecorated to appear like a hospital room. It even looked like they pinned sheets up to the wall to hide some of the set so you didn't know it was the warehouse.

Horrible movie. A piece of trash. Nothing of value here. Bad bad bad. Gutter trash. The guy who made this is a pervert. Damien Leone. Be on the lookout for a #MeToo coming soon.

This is how you do a creepy horror ending. No blood, no poop, no immature shock value.

Re: What a misogynistic piece of trash.

That was amazing.

I'm definitely not seeing that movie, so closing the book on that.

Yeah that was extremely creepy.

Re: What a misogynistic piece of trash.

I wasn't going to watch Terrifier, but you just sold it to me.

Re: What a misogynistic piece of trash.

I knew slicing a vagina in half would do just that.

Re: What a misogynistic piece of trash.

how the fuck is the ending of sleepaway camp not immature shock value?

Re: What a misogynistic piece of trash.

Exactly. That's also a trashy film that I love. I love a great many disgustingly trashy films and I don't pretend they're otherwise. I just admit I love them, and it causes a HUGE scene on here.

Yeah, I feel you, it's really annoying. It's like if some people just can get around the fact that everyone has different tastes and isn't shocked by the same things they are. 🙄

This was an effectively creepy slasher. The clown's look very scared the shit out of me. 😅

Re: What a misogynistic piece of trash.

I love 80s gritty slashers and this was a perfect throwback in my opinion. And yes, very vicious. I love it!

I also don't understand why people feel the need to insult others because they don't like the same things. It's the differences that make life interesting. The world would be boring if we all liked the exact same stuff.

Btw Terrifier 2is coming out soon. Can't wait!

Re: What a misogynistic piece of trash.

Sorry but I cannot be caught dead watching something like Terrifier! I'm like a horror film fangirl. It's my reputation on the line.

Re: What a misogynistic piece of trash.

How is it? It’s a twist no one saw coming. Its psychologically creepy, doesn’t rely on toilet gags and blood at the screen. Terrifier tried to hard to be edgy.

Awww…should have been right up your alley, pardon the pun. You write all the time about poop and farts, for supposed shock value.

Re: What a misogynistic piece of trash.

No I don’t. Who said?

Re: What a misogynistic piece of trash.

Do you forget what you write?

Just yesterday:

https://www.filmboards.com/board/p/19498492/permalink/#p19498492 and there have been countless times you fantasise about actual shit. And girls' farts.

Re: What a misogynistic piece of trash.

a slasher movie being misogynistic is kind of necessary and kind of the point of a slasher movie. i mean slasher movies have almost always been misogynistic. they've always gotten a bad reputation for being misogynistic because they are. it goes with the territory most of the time.

and you know why? because slasher movies are about serial killers. and who do serial killers usually kill? women and girls. why is that? because they get off on hurting, torturing, brutalizing, raping, and killing girls and women. so, then this being the case with serial killers, it makes sense that slasher villains usually have the most fun hurting and killing girls and women and usually spend most of their hurting and killing people time on girls and women.

Re: What a misogynistic piece of trash.

Except the ending of Sleepaway Camp was really its only redeeming feature. Apart from the shock revelation, the film is one cheap, tacky and homophobic slasher wannabe.

Norman! What did you put in my tea?

Re: What a misogynistic piece of trash.

As someone who simply watched that clip, and will never watch the movie, can you explain what the fuck I watched (teenage runaway camp movie ending)

Re: What a misogynistic piece of trash.

If I recall, the killer was abused by his/her aunt and forced to be a girl. His/her father was a homosexual and Angela caught him in bed with another man. Because of the filthiness of this perverse act, it became a very traumatizing experience…

The film amped up as much shock value as it could, in the cheesiest way possible.
