Film History and Meaning : Best Neo-Realism Films Ever?

Best Neo-Realism Films Ever?

I'd say my favorite film is "The Battle of Algiers" but my favorite director is De Sica, with Bicycle Thief, Umberto D, Two Women.

Rome, Open City is considered the first, but I'm not doing research, could also make for a great discussion.

"La Strada" is never mentioned as neo-realism because of Fellini's reputation making surrealistic or stylish films, but I think it is, even though it had famous actors in it. I guess it depends on your standards. I don't think there's anything wrong with professional actors, but I can see how someone could think how having Anthony Quinn in the film could pre-program you to have certain feelings for him, maybe more empathy than he deserves, especially with how cold he was.

I mentioned on a different post how I hated Antonioni's "Blow-Up" and that I couldn't get past the half-hour (as I had 5 other films checked-out), but I did like his neo-realistic film "Il Gido" (The Outcry) so I know he's "able" so I'm curious about other films of his that I might like.

They don't show many foreign films on TV, so I don't see as many as I'd like, since I rarely watch films on the laptop, but if you have recommendations, shoot!
