I liked her best in When a Man Loves a Woman.

you always knew it was her, and yet, she really was successful at both romantic comedy and drama.
Not many are able to accomplish that.
It's a shame that she seems to have dropped out of sight.

Isn't it sad? Surgery is such a gamble. I'd rather have a few wrinkles and sags rather than possibly ending up looking like something in a circus sideshow.

I remember her when she started out in the 80s on some American soap opera. I can't remember which one, but she was everyone's sweetheart. She really took off fast in the movies.

Funny you should mention Melanie Griffith. I use to get them mixed up sometimes.

Re: Quite possibly Meg Ryan's best movie after The Doors.
I think it was Top Gun, then DOA had me sold and I was a little in love with her in The Doors (For a while), her career continued and I had a few laughs along with way but I'd say those movies were the highlights for me.
But I'm guessing if you divided her entire movie career by three she'd maybe be on 1.5 movies in which I thought her very talented.
As oppose to Griffith's negative numbers

Oh lord Melanie Griffith is terrible, she did manage to bag Antonio Banderas though!
She gets points for that!

When Harry Met Sally was so good. "I'll have what she's having."
People always mention Sleepless in Seattle, but I always preferred You've got Mail.

I remember reading something about that in a magazine back in the 90s. I wonder if she and her family ever patched things up.

Personal taste on a subjective art is fine too. There is a lot of comedy that I enjoy that is 'too over the line' for some people but the I see someone who is 'too over the line' for me and I realise there are people out there with is even darker than my tastes.
She has been in a decent amount of notable films though (The Preacher's Wife not being one of them).

PS: She sucked balls in The Doors. She was way too conservative and not comfortable with herself and it showed. I think that was one of her worst movies, but it was by far and away of Val Kilmer's most outstanding performances. I loved this movie.

Re: Quite possibly Meg Ryan's best movie after The Doors.
If you've seen any footage with Pam in it, she's nothing like Meg.
As far as his "wife" (Patricia) in that pagan wedding ceremony, I've actually spoken to her, the real one (just once). She was the one who played the priestess (in the movie) who was performing the ceremony with Jim and Patricia Kennealy (who later assumed the last name Morrison).
Does that make sense? The real Patricia married Jim Morrison, and that Patricia played the pagan priestess in the movie performing the ceremony. That must've been weird for her.
Anyhoo, the girl playing Nico did a fair job (again if you've seen any of the original source material).
I totally bought Val's performance of Morrison. He studied nuances so well, PLUS he actually did some of the actual singing. In his audition, he played 3 songs and asked the director to pick which one was him, and which ones were Morrison. Turns out, they were all Val really singing. He was born for that role.

Re: Quite possibly Meg Ryan's best movie after The Doors.
I haven't delved into the background of the characters in the film Lilith beyond Morrison himself who was still very popular when the film was released.
So I can't compare anyone in the movie to how it was in the real/lizard king world.
Val was convincing and I enjoyed Meg a lot in her performance.
I think you having met some of the people involved and knowing more of the history of what happened might give you a slightly different perspective from layabouts like me who just took it as a movie about an awesome band and how it all came together in a cinematic couple of hours.
For the record I don't like Yoko but only because that's the trend behind liking The Beatles being together, I don't know anything about her or what her artworks are like.
Biographies aren't my thing, I just kinda roll with what I see and try to appreciate it with how I look at the world personally

Re: Quite possibly Meg Ryan's best movie after The Doors.
I'm big into history and in particular, biographies. So yeah, that means I can be a bit of a prickly pear at times when I pick movies apart. Most of the books I read are biographies. I've also got a bit of personal history within the movie making scenes and graphic novel scenes (long story), so I do have some very personal ties to certain movies, such as Bram Stoker's Dracula (with Gary Oldman) and The Crow (with Brandon Lee, RIP). I've got a great collection of original artwork and personal "behind the scenes" stuff not available to the public.
Another example is Patton. I've got a half dozen books on Patton alone, so I pick apart the movie which was just so condensed and left out so many details while ending prematurely. It's my jam, as the kids say, lol

Re: Quite possibly Meg Ryan's best movie after The Doors.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with having a passion in a hobby Lilith, I too like graphic novels and enjoy (Sometimes) when screen adaptions are made of them
Being closer to the material will make you notice the flaws in it, that's why nitpickers get together on places like here to discuss why certain choices may have been made.
Regarding the movie The Doors though, I simply enjoyed it as a flick that was somehow related to Jim Morrison and his band.
Keep the hobby fires burning, perhaps one day there will be more people here with the same type of hobbies you have and further discussion can happen as it used to on IMDb.
It is your jam afterall

Re: Quite possibly Meg Ryan's best movie after The Doors.
That's what I have enjoyed about posting here, talking with others especially about Britcoms, a passion of mine. Or old TV shows like Dark Shadows (another passion of mine). It's so nice to talk with others who like the same thing!
PS: I am not even remotely into graphic novels, but I have friends who are creators, authors and illustrators, so by default, my social circles were…varied.
I like the people here dissecting movie scenes or characters. It can be fun to talk with others who watch as intently.
