The Huntsman: Winter's War : Was Chastains accent supposed to be Irish or Scottish?
Re: Was Chastains accent supposed to be Irish or Scottish?
Ha! Yeah im wondering that about her and Hemsworth. Was his accent like that in the first movie?
Re: Was Chastains accent supposed to be Irish or Scottish?
Only she and the Lord know
Re: Was Chastains accent supposed to be Irish or Scottish?
She's one of my favourite actresses but I couldn't bear to watch her in this when she spoke - her accent was awful. It seemed to go back and forth between Irish and Scottish.
Her accent and lack of chemistry with Chris Hemsworth really affected the film.

Re: Was Chastains accent supposed to be Irish or Scottish?
Does it matter? It's not set in a real world

Aus-tish and AmeriGaelScot.
It's too cerebral! We're trying to make a movie here, not a film!

Re: Was Chastains accent supposed to be Irish or Scottish?
I was really put off by it too.
I guess since the entire story is set in a fantasy world, there isn't supposed to be a defined categorization of accents so the inconsistency is excusable. As long as it sounds "foreign" enough to American audience's ears, then it's considered okay. But to someone who is very familiar with British accents, the inconsistency is quite distracting!

Re: Was Chastains accent supposed to be Irish or Scottish?
Drove me nuts. I had to turn it off.
Re: Was Chastains accent supposed to be Irish or Scottish?
She had a consistently bad accent, but Hemsworth kept switching between his normal speaking voice and that terrible Irish accent.
Re: Was Chastains accent supposed to be Irish or Scottish?
He was supposed to be Scottish. I'm Scottish and I couldn't understand a lot of his dialogue. He just slurred his words. I don't remember him being that bad in he first one. Chastain's accent was quite good when she wasn't shouting.
Re: Was Chastains accent supposed to be Irish or Scottish?
Her accent was horrible, and Chris's wasn't much better. Her 6 years on him was a little too conspicuous (they were around the same age when kids, then she's 38).
Re: Was Chastains accent supposed to be Irish or Scottish?
Fantasiasn, I am sure.

Re: Was Chastains accent supposed to be Irish or Scottish?
To me a weakness of the film was that I had a hard time understanding a lot of Hemsworth's dialogue and some from Chastain. (And I'm usually very good at picking up on accents in several UK movies.)
- It wasn't that important since the story plays out visually but it was still annoying.
And I think it bothered others and hurt the movie's box office.
Notice that in the Lord of the Rings movies every actor can be understood?
That's essential to keep the audience engaged.
Imo at least, BB ;-)
it is just in my opinion - imo -
