The Others (2001)

This popped up in my recommended list. Has anyone seen it?

Do you binge horror during October, too?

My favourite month (obviously!) out of the whole year! I feel at one with the world and all is well.

Re: The Others (2001)

You'll love it Lilith! So good!

Re: The Others (2001)

I still can't quite make out what it's about.

I recognized the scene with a child under a cloth being parodied in Scary Movie 3, with Charlie Sheen (and a "Michael Jackson").

If I explain it I’m gonna spoil it LOL

Re: The Others (2001)

I have.

One of the best lines in the movie: “Are you Mad ? I AM your daughter!”

I used to tease my Mom with that line all the time.

Re: The Others (2001)

Re: The Others (2001)

You haven't let me down yet! So far, everything you've suggested has been spot-on.

Any other recommendations?

PS: Totally unrelated to anything, I'm going to derail this thread to tell you that I just heard one of my mouse traps go off. Ugh,….I hate this part.

Re: The Others (2001)

I've heard a LOT of very good things about Hotel Mumbai. I hear very good things about it.

I've already seen Apostle. It's very good! It's got some surprising scenes in it. I felt anxious for him the whole time.

Re: The Others (2001)

After reading what you wrote about Hotel Mumbai, it sounds like something too depressing.

I'm not in the mood, (and rarely am in the mood), to watch something emotionally draining. I think I'll skip that one.

But hey, any good horror flicks, and I'm game! lol

Re: The Others (2001)

Oh lawd, don't I know it!

I asked some neighbours for some advice, and get this,….GET THIS (notice my extreme outrage here because it's very important to set the tone!) they suggested sticky traps (!) where the mice go into a box and get stuck on this paper until they starve to death, or a contraption that's filled with water and has a dowel across it with peanut butter on it,…the mice crawl up and onto it, fall in, and drown!

Those are the two main types of mouse traps the people out my way use.

I friggin' freaked out! Hellz no!

I do not know of a catch-and-release trap. Of course, the people I've asked for suggestions remind me that setting them free, they'll just come back into the house, and they do damage, chew the electrical wiring, chew the insulation, and that I need to remember they're a danger to the house.

Ugh,…I feel sick just knowing that trap just snapped shut. I always wait to check on it because it's hard enough for me to remove the dead mice, but it would break my heart to see the little critter squirming around in there. Ohhh Anna, I have got to find something better because this really is not my thing.

I may actually ask a neighbour to come and collect this. Ick.

Re: The Others (2001)

That is MUCH more "me" in every single way. I don't have it in me to be doing what I'm doing. This is really bothering me.

Re: The Others (2001)

Amazon has some "humane" and "catch and release" traps.

You can also make your own, like this:

Re: The Others (2001)

This is much more something I can deal with. I just need to figure out how he did that. (Yeah, I suck at just figuring it out without seeing step by step instructions).

I could totally do catch-and-release.

Re: The Others (2001)

Yeah, he should've explained how to put it together. But that's just one example of a humane trap you can make yourself.

Re: The Others (2001)

Yes, would have been more helpful to see the process. Me being me, just showing me a coat hanger and bottle caps, doesn't show me how he finagled that sucker together. But I'll look on youtube and Amazon because I think this is going to be my last snapping mouse trap. Ugh…

Great film.

It's boring @

Well, this is a tomb. I'll make them feel at home

Re: The Others (2001)

It's my favourite horror film of all time.

The train is coming with shiny cars, comfy seats, and wheels of stars. Hush, little ones, have no fear; the man in the moon is the engineer.

Re: The Others (2001)

omg of course you should see it! you're not too late to watch this. it's got the biggest twisted end ever D:

Re: The Others (2001)

It's a brilliant horror movie

Re: The Others (2001)

Good movie, and I think you'd LOVE it.

Re: The Others (2001)

I don't think I've ever seen Nicole Kidman so perfectly cast! Normally I'm not a fan of hers, but she shone in this movie.

Re: The Others (2001)

Very reminiscent of The Turn of the Screw as well

Re: The Others (2001)

Yes! I have seen it several times, and the movie is one of my favorites!! You better watch it before I unintentionally and accidentally spoil the movie!

And I love that part when….Well, I nearly blew it, didn't I? Go watch it!

Edit: I just noticed it's been three months since this thread was created. How was the movie, considering if you had watched it?

If I get pulled over, it better be a gay policeman riding on a unicorn.

Re: The Others (2001)

I haven't seen it yet. I'm trying to figure out where I saw it. I can't remember if it was on a recommended list, or if I saw it through Netflix on the list. I'm not sure where I saw it, but with soooo many people saying how good it is, it definitely makes me really want to see it now.

Hey, it might be available on yt come to think of it. I'm going to see if I can find it, somewhere.

Oh, and Mark, don't worry about spoilers. I actually really like spoilers. I understand that most people don't like them and do anything and everything to avoid them. But one thing that has been consistent for as long as I can remember: I like spoilers!

When I read books, occasionally I'll read the ending first. With movies, I'll watch detailed reviews with spoilers, and it actually makes me even more interested. It sort of motivates me or piques my interest more than not knowing anything at all about it.

Re: The Others (2001)

No kidding, right?

People are different, that's all. And that's okay. Most don't like spoilers, yet there does exist a group of people like myself who actually enjoy them.
