Assassin's Creed : Most of these critics giving negative reviews
Re: Most of these critics giving negative reviews
So much this
Re: Most of these critics giving negative reviews
That means if people that didn't play the game hate this movie, this movie shoudn't even exist. Critics that played the game *beep* on this movie even more. The only difference is that they know what is happening, they are even more bored in irritated.
Re: Most of these critics giving negative reviews
Understandable
Re: Most of these critics giving negative reviews
Jeremy Jahns does video game reviews and goes to nerd video game conventions and says this movie is dog *beep* You need to accept this movie is objectivity terrible, kid.
Re: Most of these critics giving negative reviews
Yeah you're right and I completely understand, I think I want to see for myself though and form my own opinon. I did the same thing with Suicide Squad, I ignored the critics and decided to see what I thought and ended up hating it but who knows, the opposite could happen here. Just will ha ve to wait and see I guess. :P
Re: Most of these critics giving negative reviews
This. the movie may suck critic wise but that doesn?t mean I ain't gonna probably like it. I like enough movies that are destroyed by critics.
Re: Most of these critics giving negative reviews
Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure the same thing happened with Warcraft.
Re: Most of these critics giving negative reviews
Yes it did although I give that movie a 5
Re: Most of these critics giving negative reviews
I personally haven't seen it and probably won't but I do know that the relationship between critics and audiences is quitedistant.
Re: Most of these critics giving negative reviews
Yeah that's because the masses don't have problems gobbling *beep* down and thinking its chocolate and vice versa for well crafted artistic pieces.
Re: Most of these critics giving negative reviews
I'm not saying that the movie is any good it's just what I think may happen with this movie.
Re: Most of these critics giving negative reviews
You should. Warcraft is a good movie. And the asthetics are so spot on
Re: Most of these critics giving negative reviews
You know what, I think I will give it a go, I don't see the harm in it.
Re: Most of these critics giving negative reviews
You mean critics and fanboys, critics see a movie as a movie, fanboys see a movie asI don't know, most of them are retard
Re: Most of these critics giving negative reviews
Sounds like you don't know anything about critics. But if assuming all of them are ignorant about the video games makes you feel better about not believing their reviews, go for it. Just know you are being willfully ignorant.
Re: Most of these critics giving negative reviews
Everything you stated is for the most part true (Although I prefer the term open minded rather than ignorant), I'm not a critic myself so I don't really understand what it's like to be one, therefore I'm simply going to go see this movie with an open mind, see what I personally think and just have a fun time. By the way I hope you had a wonderful day! :D
Re: Most of these critics giving negative reviews
Agree critics should not be deciding factor in seeing something or not, but one does not need experience of the game to appreciate or not appreciate the movie.
Re: Most of these critics giving negative reviews
Very true, I guess shouldn't have said that bit about the critics not know anything about the games because they shouldn't have to I was just so disappointed by the critical reception that I sorta blamed it on that. Still gonna have to see for myself though.
Re: Most of these critics giving negative reviews
Actually, the descriptions of the film even in the bad reviews make me want to see it. It sounds crazy and beautiful to look at.
Re: Most of these critics giving negative reviews
Agreed, sounds like a fun time in my opinion!
Re: Most of these critics giving negative reviews
A movie should be able to stand on its own and NOT rely on the video game its based on. The same for movies that are based on novels, comics, toy lines, ect.
A movie should be great because a movie is great. We didn't hear people saying Harry Potter was crap because critics didn't read the book. Or that True Blood was a bad series because no one read the book. Or that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is horrible because the critics didn't read the comics. Because none of them had to. The movies were extraordinary on their own merit.
I want a good video game movie too. I wanted Assassin' Creed to be it. But.it seems it too missed the mark.

Re: Most of these critics giving negative reviews
Yeah I get it, I just wanted it to be good soooo badyou know, and I wrongfully took it out on the lack of knowledge critics may or may not have of the games. Thanks for your input. :)
Re: Most of these critics giving negative reviews
Anytime!! No harm, no foul. I've definitely been guilty of letting my personal love of a franchise get in the way of people criticizing said franchise.
Off-topic, I personally think the answer to a good video game movie (or Netflix series) is in your profile pic: Legend of Zelda. I could see it having a "Game of Thrones" feel but with much more fantasy. In the right hands, LoZ has the most translation from VG to Big Screen potential of any series (sans maybe the Last of Us, which is already a movie, honestly).
That or Star Fox, though that one would be MUCH for farfetched. But, if Guardians of the Galaxy can pull off a talking raccoon bounty hunter, I could see a fox, bird, frog and rabbit defending the galaxy from a space monkey.

Re: Most of these critics giving negative reviews
I strongly agree! I've been wanting a Legend of Zelda movie for a while now and I think it could be translated to the big screen so well! Hope it happens, it would be so cool.
Re: Most of these critics giving negative reviews
This is where you're wrong. Ubisoft has said the movie is for the fans. Its not for everyone. So if people go see it not knowing what the hell its about, criticizing a movie stating you didn't understand certain things or there was no explanation of things is kind of your own fault. And there are critics that may have played the games but are complaining about things not being explained but they really shouldn't if one is familiar with the universe and its explained there then bitching about a movie not explaining something you should already know makes the critic either sound stupid just trying to find something to hate about a movie because they don't want to like it. I have read and watched reviews for the film that are badmouthing it claiming there isn't enough explanation of things that are actually very well explained as much as needed to be if you are familiar with the series the movie is based on. I had no problem understanding what the Apple was but I have played all the games.
Aside from this, fans will tend to love the film. Critics won't. But critics tend not like a lot of films that actually aren't that bad. Critics will tend to find anything to bitch about. I saw a review where a guy bitched about the camera saying you couldn't see anything because the camera moved around so much. I had no problem seeing what was going on. The only thing that I can agree with the critics on is that there wasn't much character development but this movie is setting up a trilogy of films. I am pretty damn sure things will have more detail in future films. This one tended to focus on the Animus and the bleeding effect. To be honest that tends to be the most confusing part within the games to understand so they went ahead and got it out of the way first so in later films they don't have to further explain the animus or bleeding effect. It will already be known.

Re: Most of these critics giving negative reviews
I completely agree. One guy claimed there was no Animus in the movie, another was disappointed that the Apple of Eden is not an actual apple. Lol.
I made a thread about one of the reviews by a non-fan who knows what he's talking about and liked the movie. I think we'll be seeing more of those as time goes on.

Re: Most of these critics giving negative reviews
You disagree with a couple of stupid reviewers. That leaves still the majority who thinks this movie sucks
Re: Most of these critics giving negative reviews
Ootmm444
No one should have to know the games to enjoy the damn movie. The movie should be good enough to stand on its own two feet as a good movie despite the source material. If the general audience can enjoy freaking Lord of the Rings without knowing anything about the books, then it should be the same case for any video game adaptation. Criticizing someone for not knowing the games because they didn't like the movie is a cop out, a sorry ass excuse for a bad movie.
sound like they don't even know the slightest thing about the games and it's sort of irritating. I know I'm still gonna see it and enjoy the hell out of it no matter what critics say. :D

Re: Most of these critics giving negative reviews
I saw the movie at a critic screening, before you say all critics, check it out. I'm really trying to break into the trade of movie reviews but not be so condescending and pretentious about it. Let me know if I succeeded.
Re: Most of these critics giving negative reviews
Hope you don't mind, man, but I made a thread for your review all it's own. Since it's one of the few reviews offering a different perspective, I felt it needed a bit more shine.
Re: Most of these critics giving negative reviews
Nope, don't mind at all. My review for this has been helping me out a lot over the past day or two. It's been very much needed as I try to rebuild. Thanks for the help
Re: Most of these critics giving negative reviews
You're review was great and has me even more excited to see the movie! Thanks for sharing! :)
Re: Most of these critics giving negative reviews
I never played the games before, but you're surprisingly seemed to be handling this very well as a fan. Even in your responses. An adaptation also needs to stand out on its own whether people are familiar with the source material or not. So I wouldn't go so far with that kind of generalization. I know you're just feeling letdown and frustrated with those reviews at the moment. I had my share of liking some movies not well-received by critics. I sometimes don't pay any attention to the critics at all before seeing any movie, just to form my own opinions first. It's all a matter of perspective and it helps to have a little open-mind at times.
Critics are also good indicators for some people to determine where to spend a next movie on wisely. They're part of the audience too and they don't want moviegoers to end up wasting their money on a potentially poor movie with bad experience. But you don't have to take their criticism of the movies to heart. Those professional opinions are still opinions in the end. Whether if those collective opinions would also match your concerns or not is all up to you.
Happy Holidays!

Re: Most of these critics giving negative reviews
I actually followed reviews about the film from gaming sites like gamespot and IGN and they also did not think it was "fully baked" like it took something away from the AC game experience.
I understand the Hollywoodian module of packaging films for the lowest mass denominator. They also expect people who never played the game to watch the film based on a stand alone story and characters.
My personal opinion is that it should have been made into a TV series that by each season follows the normal AC timeline from Altair to Ezio etc. and of course with Desmond (up to AC3).
But I haven't watched it yet. It will be out in Italy in January and I'm keeping realistic expectations realizing the curse of video game films (usually suck) except for the rare case of silent hill 1 which was OKAY (not great but not the regular horrible video game movie experience). I even had people who never played Silent Hill watch it and they liked it.
So let's see.

Re: Most of these critics giving negative reviews
Let's be completely honest. Reviewers don't need to have played the games. If a AAA-movie about a video game franchise is set up in a way that only hardcore fans will enjoy it, it's already doomed to flop.
I will probably enjoy it for what it is, but if the creators didn't want any backlash from the general public, they should've made a movie that's more well-adjusted.

Re: Most of these critics giving negative reviews
So what? They're not reviewing a game. If a film only works for those who know the source material then it plain doesn't work.

Re: Most of these critics giving negative reviews
I LOVE the franchise, but as a movie, you should not need previous knowledge. That's bad moviemaking.
Re: Most of these critics giving negative reviews
Indeed. My view in a nutshell.

Re: Most of these critics giving negative reviews
Too right they massacred Warcraft for no reason. Same for X Men Apocalypse and Bateman v Superman and I enjoyed those as well.
Will go an see Assassin's creed not an overly big fan of the games but like you said I will make the call myself if I enjoyed it or not. Hope you like it

Re: Most of these critics giving negative reviews
this year what Warcraft and AC managed to show is how easy is to *beep* up great stories with mistakes. Im a Warcraft fan and I liked the movie for most of it, but it had bunch of problems.
Now watching the reviews from Jeremy Jahns and John Campea, opinions I value over all those pro critics, it seems that AC had the same problem like Warcraft. Too much info pushed into 2-3 hours of movie that goes into lack of proper character development and explaining kinda important things that non fans need. Both of those reviews said that stuff happening in the past is great but it's way too short and that rest of the movie is just some sci-fi drama stuff in the lab.
now, as a person who knows AC only by those great middle ages assassins stuff, I would kinda expect to see majority of movie happening there. I hope it will go well on the BO and that China will save the day again.

Re: Most of these critics giving negative reviews
Thank YOU!!! I saw it and it's NOT A BAD MOVIE!! Great action scenes. The dialog could be better. It just doesn't deserve the extremely low scores. HELL NO!
It's ok to like more than one actor. :))

Re: Most of these critics giving negative reviews
If you've literally decided you're going to "enjoy the hell" out of a movie no matter what, why would you even look at reviews? That's a silly way to look at it anyway. Do you decide a meal is going to be fantastic before it's served and refuse to change your mind even if it turns out to be a bowl of cloves in mustard?
Frankly, knowing something about the game should never be a requirement for one of these adaptations. Making it an "inside baseball" kind of product would just serve to limit its audience. 99% of its potential audience are just hoping for an exciting story, not checking off a list of bits that match what gamers are expecting.

Re: Most of these critics giving negative reviews
I saw the movie just this morning and was mediocre at best really

Re: Most of these critics giving negative reviews
Most of negatives look like this:
"SOME ILLUMINATI CHASING RIDICULOUSLY STRONG APPLE BY MACHINE WHO COULD HELP THEM SEE MEMORIES OF THEIR ANCESTORS? WHAT A DUMB IDEA XDDDDD THIS PLOT IS SO STUPIED XDDDDD
AND THIS IDIOTIC STORY IS TRYING TO TAKE ITSELF SERIOUSLY XDDDDDDD".
The best part is they haven't got this kind of troubles with - for example - Tarzan

Re: Most of these critics giving negative reviews
I'm very curious about if I were to go see this movie and what I would think of it. Why? Because I've never played any assassin's creed game to begin with.
Re: Most of these critics giving negative reviews
It's that kind of attitude that makes the scoring of these movies so irritatingly irrelevant. So many people (I'm not saying you're one of them) I'm betting have given it high scores without even seeing it just because they like the game.
I know I'm still gonna see it and enjoy the hell out of it no matter what critics say
And even if it's not much good those same people will defend it to the death for the same reason.
then whoa, differences
