The thing is, we won't know until the movie comes out. If the first reviews come in and it critics destroy it, then either they'll change their tune or turn on the critics, let's see. There are better things to worry about.

I know much more about movie's production than you're. You didn't prove otherwise. 1:42 is a bad running time for a big epic blockbuster with 2 different storylines and tons of characters. It's obviously heavily cut. Plus director basically confirmed it on reddit.

Sounds like Warcraft all over again, that also 2 storylines and a lot of characters, plus they cut 40 minutes from that one. At least this has a main character, which could make it turn out better, I guess.

What did he confirm exactly? How are you reading so much into those comments when directors often say that. Plenty of great movies with several threads clock under 2 hours. That's the norm for this director, particularly. It all depends on the story is conveyed

The problem is that this story requires much more than 1:42. This is not a small movie that can effectively run at 1:30 running time. This is big and epic story and with this running time they probably sacrificed plot and character development, and some reactions suggest that.

Have you read the script or seen the movie? Don't claim you know what the movie "needs" and how long it should be. I agree it's definitely shorter than I thought, and is a tad unsettling but you can't just assume you know what's best for the studio and the movie.

Dude I was there for the ama, this comment means nothing. I think what you fail to Realize is that every director cuts down their films from a longer rougher cut, regardless of studio intervention (such as Justin's work in indies, which he has generally made SHORTER). This comment literally means nothing and shows you clear lack of any knowledge about the film industry. I'm not defending the movie but this comment is actually wrong.

You're clearly defending it because what you wrote is complete "bip". You clearly have no clue about how industry works. We don't talk about rough cut, we talk about final cut. He clearly said that he wanted to include more, but studio didn't allow to. Movie's running time is too small to say that it means nothing. If it runs 18 minutes less than 2 hours and director said that even with this running time he wasn't allowed to include more, it says something. It's a usual practice for the industry, to heavily cut the movie down if studio is not happy with it, to make more money on extended amount of sessions with short running time, if you didn't know that, "industry expert".

You literally have zero proof that he was forced to cut down the film lmao, the guy another reply down said the same thing, from the sounds of it Justin was given a lot of creative control, also there was never a over 2 hour cut confirmed and my guess is like me you haven't read the script so LIKE ME you know know what's going on. Ubisoft have stated multiple times that they gave Justin more creative control over the story than other video game films. I never claimed to be an industry expert, also I strongly believe that you are misinterpreting his reddit comment.

Look I don't want to get into a gigantic argument here and I am seriously surprised that I even replied to you here. But I(and probably quite a few more people) seriously think you are reading into his language on reddit quite a bit too much to the point where you putting your words into his mouth. Also to my knowledge this is Justin's first major studio film transition from indies so I think its safe to assume that he shot some sequences as he shot some of his sequences in Macbeth ect.

The director being unhappy about the short running time means nothing. Maybe the studio cut some scenes to re-include them on Blu-Ray in the (R-rated?) Director's Cut. It wouldn't be the first time this happened.
Either way, nobody is forcing you to watch it and there's no need for you to sour things for other people that do want to see it. Why don't you tell us what kind of movie you are looking forward to? Surely we can nitpick that one until you lose all interest in it if you are swayed so easily.

Doesn't he? He actually had a lot more creative control over it than what some other directors had over movies that cost this much money. The actual studio involved belongs to Ubisoft, who mainly just gave him some source material to work with, asked him to direct a a more or less original screenplay incorporating the elements but otherwise, he was left to his own devices. The only outside influences that could of influenced it here would of come from 20th Century Fox. 20th Century Fox, as the distributor, would be the likely culprit of asking him to cut down the film but otherwise, Justin Kurzel is likely to of had lots of creative control over it's development.

Obviously because Fassbender is a producer but where did you hear that Justin Kurzel had final cut privilege? Did he say so in an interview that I didn't know about? Just that, if that is true then it's at least a good sign.
Though I still think that 20th Century Fox might of requested that the edit down the movie but I don't think that they were directly involved in what got cut.

Fox didn't touch the movie only ubisoft and new Regency. Fox is the publisher but they don't have a say on how and what is going to happen in the movie.

I don't know his statement was a bit vague. Maybe he meant that there might of been other stuff he'd like to include but was asked by 20th Century Fox to edit it down. Doesn't mean that he didn't have a say in what got cut and what didn't.

Technically, Michael had final cut but he relegated most of those duties to Kurzel and Tellefsen

Every director has a ton of footage shot on location/stage. You cut off the bigger part of it on the editing table, and of course there is a scenes you wish you could have included, but for the better consistency of the overall thing you can't.

- Horrible running time for this kind of movie(1 hour 42 minutes without credits), which could mean that it's heavily cut because of potential studio's displeasure with the movie.
- Director basically hinted at reddit QA about his displeasure with the final cut.
- The latest embargo possible (until Thursday, basically movie's release day(evening screenings)).
With these 3 reasons, it doesn't have a chance at all. It's dead on arrival.
