Passengers : The trailer is deceiving and a false advertisement

The trailer is deceiving and a false advertisement

The line "There's a reason we woke up early" was never in the movie. And so I was convinced by the trailer that the computer woke Jim up intentionally to serve a propose of fixing the damage. But throughout the whole movie, it seems like just an accident after all. Am I missing anything here?

Re: The trailer is deceiving and a false advertisement

We were saying the same thing when we left the theater. We went in expecting a romantic sci fi with a twist (consipiracy theory, corporate corruption, etc) and what we got was a movie about Stockholm Syndrome. What if he woke her up and she was a lesbian? Or he just wasn't her type? What was to stop her from waking up someone more suited to her tastes? Why not just wake everyone up? Surely they'd be more likely to solve the problem with a larger number of intelligent people weighing in.

Re: The trailer is deceiving and a false advertisement

Yeah, the odds against them 'clicking' like they did are high.

It just felt unrealistic. Their romance had me rolling my eyes. As did a lot of the plot.

The first part was good. I just think they should have gone a different route than the clichd, formulaic romance.

Based on the fact that Jim gave her space when they just met, I am pretty sure he will accept if she was a lesbian or he is just not her type, and not pursue her any more. But I also think it is quite possible that they will wake up two more people. One for him and one for her. They will study the personal files more carefully and brainstorm about which two are to be waken up. Jim knew many small robots are failing so they need to wake up an engineer. Since most engineers are men, the other requirement is that Aurora likes the look of the man and personal quality on the paper.

Re: The trailer is deceiving and a false advertisement

A $120 million movie can't put together a trailer without including excised themes???
A car dealer can't sell a car lacking advertised features - why is Hollywood allowed to sell a film using false advertising?

You should have made a stink at the theater. I'm certain they would have refunded your money or given you a pass for another movie.

They're allowed to falsely advertise because no one complains loud enough.

They want to do this because they want to get the fans of different genres to attend. Most only pay to see a movie once. Therefore if they can 'trick' a million or so people into seeing a movie, what do they care if you were expecting the Three Stooges and got Laurence Olivier?

Re: The trailer is deceiving and a false advertisement

Trailer looked boring as hell to me boring storyline it looked like a bad space "notebook" to me, therefore I will not see it except when it comes out on TV for free.

Good decision - it's not worth 10c.

Re: The trailer is deceiving and a false advertisement

so obviously you like boring, "space notebook" stories, since YOU PLAN TO SEE IT.
Your only beef is having to get up off the sofa and pay a few bucks.

Re: The trailer is deceiving and a false advertisement

No - my only beef is get up off my sofa and waste my hard earned money on a movie I have no interest in seeing on a HUGE screen.

Not everything I watch has to be good - especially if it's free.

Re: The trailer is deceiving and a false advertisement

That line wasn't in the movie, but that type of thing happens from time to time. Many trailers are put together well before final cuts are made.

Re: The trailer is deceiving and a false advertisement

It was false advertising but I liked how they did that. It's nice when you go in expecting to see a certain story but end up seeing something totally different. I actually preferred the real story compared to what I thought it was going to be.

Re: The trailer is deceiving and a false advertisement

But the studio took away the audience's choice just like Jim took away Aurora's choice. Choice to make the decision after the truth has been presented to you first.

Re: The trailer is deceiving and a false advertisement

Maybe you should wait a while after a new movie comes out. Read all the reviews and message posts, spoilers and all ; then you'll know exactly what to expect.

Re: The trailer is deceiving and a false advertisement

I wish some lawyer who also felt the way we did about the misleading trailer would get angry enough to start a class action lawsuit against the producers of this film. The was such a bait and switch situationother companies get sued for misleading consumers about their products and wind up paying hugh sums to compensate their wrongdoingthis is no different!
