NCIS : This is not a Critique, but…
Re: This is not a Critique, but…
Looks like a critique, reads like a critique, I say its a critique.
It's called a remote control. It has a channel up button, a channel down button, and a power off button. Get familiar with this device, learn to use it.
How can we expect the world to trust in a loving God, when His followers can be so full of hate?

Re: This is not a Critique, but…
well, phillipds, in the past my Critiques have covered the entire episode, not just one part or character
so, for all intents and purposes it's not an "old style Critique" - it's just a b!tch-fest about Abby, Abby, Abby

Re: This is not a Critique, but…
Abby's behaviour and attire would definitely not be tolerated in a real life forensic's lab.
Re: This is not a Critique, but…
when Gibbs was in the lab trying to talk to McGee and she was jumping on the bubble wrap, I thought for sure Gibbs would yell at her and tell her to stop acting like a screwball, but she can do no wrong in his eyes, that was the most annoying scene ever on NCIS. I thought I was watching Laverne and Shirley

Come on, now, Nas. Quit holding back and tell us how you really feel.
Re: This is not a Critique, but…
I've always liked Abby as an eccentric person; she also provides comic relief, much as the gravediggers in Hamlet do. I've always loved playing with bubble wrap, too. I have anxiety disorder; sometimes doing quirky things helps calm me down.

Re: This is not a Critique, but…
Alas the actress is not responsible for the script she is given. Perhaps she could raise an objection, but if the powers don't listen to her she has to follow what is written. Abby was actually a good character at the beginning of the series and I liked her character in the show Special Unit 2, but the last 13 years have not been kind.

alas, this is true, seldon
I suppose playing this unrealistic, annoying character and having that steady paycheck for the past 13 years is pretty hard to "object" to; kinda' hard to turn your back on the kind of $$$ she's making - especially when you're an actress with little talent (my opinion), who has been lucky enough to make it in the industry
note: I realize my words are harsh, but I am sooooo over the ridiculousness that is Abby Sciuto, and the person who portrays her
tonite she pushed my last button!

Re: This is not a Critique, but…
I have pretty much tried to ignore the abby-isms, and only mentally tune back in when she has something relevant to add to the show. Which to be honest is not very often.
Overall I thought last night's episode was pretty good from a standpoint of telling the story, and letting it play out. and once again I thought they rushed the end of the case to get to the heart of the matter, letting Bishop deal with heartbreak and sorrow.
I wonder if they are setting us up for Bishop to move back to NSA or just leave all together. That Character has been put through a lot of personal turmoil.

Re: This is not a Critique, but…
I love bubble wrap as much as the next gal, very therapeutic.
However, last night's tantrums were beyond ridiculous.

Re: This is not a Critique, but…
Abby, as she was portrayed initially - the first couple of years, maybe a little longer - was an awesome role model for girls.
Now she is a terrible role model for anyone: aside from the infantile tantrum behavior, she is shown as getting away with pretty much anything purely because she tells everyone how clever she is, yet the episodes often show her proving that she is NOT as clever as she claims (any longer).
Sigh.

Well make the most of it; you never know when it might be gone.

Re: This is not a Critique, but…
Everyone has their dislikes and it carries over. On the other hand, I just see the situation as a TV show and try not to get too bothered by it. A lot was going on in that episode, emotional stuff and while the rest of the team are professionals, Abby is not a field agent. She's a lab tech. She's a woman, no offense and they tend to get emotional. Personally, I tend to fast forward through some of it to get to the point and not just Abby.
Also keep in mind what seldon said, she acts what's written, she's a pro in that dept. Did you really think analytical Ellie was going to get overly emotional? Even in her cheating husband divorce, she did not. Espisito, forget her character name, is the cool and calm pro who didn't get overly emotional when her partner was killed, although she did get upset. So who does that leave? Abby.
Patterns, too. She got upset about Sec Nav's death and where she wanted to kick Parsons, she was all over the place in Sister City. So it's not exactly a shock here. Finally, the actress herself. She's been through a lot this past year. She's been with the show it's entire run. She doesn't have the option to pull a Weatherly and do a different show. So what would any wanting to get paid career minded actress do? Stick with the paycheck. No movies, no TV, unemployed otherwise or guest spots. So at all angles, is this really that big a thing?

Re: This is not a Critique, but…
Agree 100% with your non-critique, Nasduring the bubble-stomp tantrum, my remark to my wife was, "Just when you think she can't get any MORE annoying"
Still hoping for the best with this old favorite, but it's getting more "old" and less "favorite."
Cheers!

Re: This is not a Critique, but…
The bubble wrap stomping march wasn't entertaining or funny. That whole thing was out of place in the episode.
At roughly 45 years old it's long past time to put away the jet black hair dye, the infantile behavior, the pigtails & the pre-school clothes. And please cut out the darting around, not looking anyone in the eyes - it's very distracting and rather creepy.
Wanna give a shock to fan, NCIS? Give Abby a makeover. I'll take a head injury & change of personality & behavior if that's what it takes to refresh a once, but long gone, refreshing character.

Re: This is not a Critique, but…
OMG! This thread is the MAIN reason I, for one, no longer come to this board much anymore. I'M SO SICK AND TIRED OF THE NEGATIVITY!! Damn! if you don't like the show any moreQuit watching it!! But do you have to come here and 'rain on the parade" of those of us who are still enjoying it? And this just after a post saying good-bye to the board even.
Usually, when I no longer enjoy a show and quit watching it (like Blue Bloods, or more recently, Criminal Minds) I no longer post on it's board either. I don't mind 'constructive negativity', that is to say to complain about certain aspects of a show in hopes of bringing attention to it so as to improve it. I think this was what many viewers/posters were trying to do before MW"s departure.

here's a suggestion for you, lonewolfbenji:
whenever you see a thread I've created just don't read it!
or, better yet, put me on "Ignore", then you won't have to see anything I post
in that way it will keep you from being "SICK AND TIRED", and I can continue to post my opinion(s)
last I heard it's allowed to post both good and bad about the show, and there are still some people around here who agree with what I write
btw, when did I just say "goodbye to the board"?
I swore off it for a while, but I started posting again months ago

Re: This is not a Critique, but…
Well okay Nas, I will just put you on ignore again. I've had you on ignore several times, not because I dislike you or anything, but just because of your negative comments about the show, and almost all of it's characters. Is there ANYONE you do like? But it isn't just YOUR negativity I'm "sick and tired" of. There are a lot of negative posts on this board, all those posters who agree with what you write, I guess. A lot of trolling too.
Yes, it is allowed to post both good and bad about the show. But some people's posts are ONLY bad and I just don't get that. Seems to me that if someone hates a show that much, why torture themselves by watching it week after week?
Yes, your thread titled "Good-bye IMBd board" or something to that effect, may have very well been created quite a while ago because I did have you on ignore and shouldn't have even seen it, but somehow you came off my ignore list and it came up (just yesterday). It was about the last episode and Abby's stomping on the bubble wrap, however. Which I haven't even seen yet because I can't watch regularly. Not because I don't want to, just because I don't have access to it.
I'm having to stay at my daughter's home for a while, because of a By-pass surgery I had to have, and she doesn't even get local channels. So I have to watch online, which is fine, but she also has four little children so even that is hard to do.
Anyway, I will do as you suggest, but I want you to know it's not because I find you personally offensive or anything. Maybe I shouldn't even come to the board any more since there are so many negative postings. I, too, remember back when this board was a lot of fun. Even the summer hiatus passed by quickly because of all the games and discussion threads created here back then. I think it was because although we may have had differing viewpoints and opinions, the one thing we all had in common was that we all loved the showuntil one day some didn't anymore.

Re: This is not a Critique, but…
I do hate it when a show I like has a characacter that just grates on my nerves. Sheldon in Big Bang has reached that point with me, just like Hawkeye did on MASH. ESPECIALLY when it is a character that so many other people love.
Abby hasn't quite reached that point for me, but I do see where you are coming from. You hate to give up a good show, but some of the scenes become almost excruciating to sit through
That's what we need - ridiculous odds, and just a speck of hope that someday, we'll beat it

I record the show so I can zip through her scenes, don't care if I miss something, small price to pay.

Re: This is not a Critique, but…
Abby is enough reason to give up on NCIS, especially now that it has become FRIENDS or SEINFELD.
This is not a Critique, but…
I'm only going to make one comment about episode 14.11, Willoughby:
I've decided that not only is Pauley Perrette one of the worst actresses to appear on any screen - small or big - but her character Abby, Abby, Abby Sciuto is the single most annoying I have ever seen in all my years of televiewing!
and just to let you know how many years that is, I remember Howdy Doody, Buffalo Bob, and Clarabelle the Clown
she has done a lot of annoying sh!t over the years, but tonight's little bubble wrap stomping with those damn ugly platform boots just took the cake!
tonight she went from a pigtail wearing 12 year old to a tantrum throwing 4 year old!
could she get any worse if she tried?
not long ago I read on this very board that PP likes playing her character as is because she is a
role model to many young girls who watch the show
SERIOUSLY!?!?
is this the type of behavior that should be emulated and/or exhibited by a woman - of any age?
this character is a 40-something person, who dresses and looks like an escapee from the Barnum & Bailey Circus!
if I had a young daughter who wanted to grow up to be like Abby, I'd get the kid into counseling immediately!
if I thought she was unwatchable before, after tonight she is
wellllll, this should tell you how I feel:
need I say more?
