The Blacklist : Before they close the board did they reveal her parentage…..

Before they close the board did they reveal her parentage…..

and her connection to reddington.

Personally I stopped watching in season 2 after I noticed the writers were using this plot line as a crutch to keep their viewers hostage. So has their been any reveals or something?

UPDATE:

So in summary it was hinted that red was the father which am leaning to since he wanted to sacrifice Dembe,an orphan whom he raised ,but not liz in the episode with the glass jail.

Re: Before they close the board did they reveal her parentage…..

yes Red is her father.

Re: Before they close the board did they reveal her parentage…..

Sort of. They revealed Red is her dad but did it in such a way as to leave wiggle room. Right now the cover of the book says "How to Cook For Humans." Later they'll blow more space dust off and it'll read "How to Cook Forty Humans." We probably won't find out for 100% sure until the very last episode.

Re: Before they close the board did they reveal her parentage…..

Yes. they did.

It's all just pieces of a much larger puzzle, and until all the pieces are laying in front of you...

Re: Before they close the board did they reveal her parentage…..

In my opinion, they did not reveal him as her father.

Reddington had traded himself for Elizabeth, as captive to her mother's former husband (or lover? I don't remember which), and he kept asking Red repeatedly, "Are you her father? Is Masha your daughter?" Red kept responding that it didn't matter.

He threatened to kill Red with injections of poison if he continued to refuse to answer the question. So Red responded, "What do you want me to say? Yes. Is that what you want me to say? Yes, Elizabeth is my daughter."

But I don't think it's true, merely spoken under threat. Elizabeth's connection to Reddington is that he was hopelessly in love with her mother, who, as a Soviet spy, was assigned to seduce him.

Re: Before they close the board did they reveal her parentage…..

I think Red did not answer the questions until the right question was asked.

Liz asked him" Are you my father?"
Kirk asked him: "Are you her father?"

Red kept telling him that it did not matter, because Kirk had acted as a father, and had loved Liz as a daughter, so the actual biological paternity was irrelevant. Then Sam Milhoan raised her.

Sam would always be her father, because it was Sam who raised her.

Not until Kirk asked the right question: "Is Masha your daughter" because Rostov knew Liz as Masha, that Red is finally able to answer: "Yes, Elizabeth is my daughter."

To most people is the same, but to a man who avoids the truth without lying is not. a father is the man who raises a child, while the child will always be the daughter of that man, but also of the biblical father, even if this man never raised her.

So it is a question of asking the right question. And a question of honoring a promise made on a deathbed of a dear friend: that Sam will always be her father. So for Red, Rostov was a father to Liz, and Sam was a father to Liz, but Liz will always be his daughter.

If Katarina was a honeytrap who seduced men for information, and went as far as faking a DNA test and having a diary, she probably did the same to others. In fact Red confirms that he also was a target. And following the OREA agent who thought she was an amalgamation of 6 different unknown soviet agents, then it follows she had at least 6 names, 6 identities: "Katarina Rostova, one of her many names"

What do you think was in the KGB file? the names of her targets.

And what information could Liz still remember that she acquired as a 4 year old? the names of those targets. the names of the men she call father.

It's all just pieces of a much larger puzzle, and until all the pieces are laying in front of you...

Agree 100%, mjwm44. The scene was clearly meant to be ambiguous, and we all know that The Blacklist loves to be ambiguous, leaving it up to each viewer's own individual interpretation of scenes and dialogue.

Whether or not Red is Liz's father is linked to the endgame, and that is when the truth will be revealed.

Re: Before they close the board did they reveal her parentage…..

I still think we might learn that Masha and Elizabeth are two different women, both children of Katerina but having two different fathers. In this scenario, the father-daughter blood test result was real, but belonged to Kirk and Masha (not the Liz we know), and Masha is still out there somewhere. This is one possible explanation of what Red whispered to Kirk.

I agree that we still don't really know whether Red was telling the truth when he answered Kirk. When the series started, I though Red was a blood relative (uncle or half-brother) but NOT her father. The longer it goes on, the more it seems that he is, but I'm not completely sure whether the writers have even decided, regardless of what they might say.

Re: Before they close the board did they reveal her parentage…..

Gingerpeach... I agree. There could most definitely be both a Masha and an Elizabeth. Two daughters , two different fathers. I also agree though that the writers probably haven't decide yet which way it will go, only that we have to wait until the very last episode. Although they could go down a road where Liz finds out that Red is her father, but he doesn't know that she knows. Boy I'd love to see several episodes of dialogue with regard to that. As Red would say " that's going to be a gas).

Re: Before they close the board did they reveal her parentage…..

exactly what good would it do to Red to have his daughter in that danger instead of simply telling Kirk that his daughter was somewhere else?

Re: Before they close the board did they reveal her parentage…..

This was and still is an EPISODIC TV series.

No one was being held hostage. You were meant to watch for the journey and not the destination.
