The Late Show with Stephen Colbert : Is it time for toxic Late Night Shows to have a reset ?

Thanks for that! Very interesting!
Although I still wonder if a subtle approach would have been much more effective in mobilizing opinion rather than hammer the audience and telling them you are not one of us if you support Trump.
A bit like the one who yells and uses bad language in most cases loses the argument.
Also miss the fun part when its mainly preaching that's done by people who just assume they know better.

It was designed to be something that made you laugh and made you sleep in a good mood.
You proffer that comment like it was written in stone somewhere. Says who? If all you want is fun, goofy games, softball interviews and pablum, Jimmy Fallon will be glad to count you as a viewer.
Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.
Re: Is it time for toxic Late Night Shows to have a reset ?
I'd put Corden in that silly category with Fallon. He does the stupid games too. It seems like Seth Meyers and Fallon should switch time slots.
Re: Is it time for toxic Late Night Shows to have a reset ?
I'm with you. Cordon is a likable, talented guy, but the show lacks any substance. Pure fluff seems to suit the masses, especially the younger demographic. For me, it's a toss-up between Colbert and Meyers. Both are well grounded, intelligent and can balance the serious with the silly. Of course, Colbert plays to a `bigger room' and has to go broader, while Seth is perfect in a more subdued approach at his time of night.
Charley Rose doesn't have to shoot for an entertainment factor, so can just offer the art of intelligent conversation. Glad he's there doing what he does best. I do wish that there was room for another Cavett, Snyder or Costas, who would be a witty, yet intelligent and low-key alternative to the lighter fare. Sadly, in the world of a hundred channels fighting for ratings, those days are over.

Late Night Shows WILL have a reset soon. All their toxicity and personal hate for Trump came to nothing. LOL! Mainstream media was knocked out of the park by Americans and I'm glad they did.
There's a reason for the low ratings for Stephen Colbert show and that is because he does not fit the mould of a Fallon or Corden. He needs to run an opinion-based show where his crackpot left-wing liberalism will have its own audience at least in the NY and LA areas of the country.
I can understand John Oliver ,Samantha Bee,etc going out against Trump as they are opion based shows and have to cater only to their niche audiences.

Or an opinion-based show where he talks about how he can claim his crackpot version of Catholicism. Maybe EWTN.

Jimmy Fallon doing a good job? Jay Leno missed?! Dude, what are you smoking, I want some of it
As for Letterman and Trump, there was a masterpiece interview where Letterman called out Trump on his ties being made in China:

Perfect irony!

Jimmy Fallon seems to be doing something right since his ratings and viewership are so much higher than Colbert.
Funnily even Jimmy Kimmel beats Colbert most times although that could be his West Coast audience.

Is it time for toxic Late Night Shows to have a reset ?
Now the Late Night Show hosts have taken on John Stewart's theme, upped it to max, mixed it with filthy language and dish it out with venom.I have no problem if they want to be Left Wing Nuts rather than have individual opinions and retain some self-respect. Only Jimmy Fallon of the lot seems to be doing a fair job. The rest from Stephen Colbert to John Oliver to Trevor Noah,Samantha Bee,etc can be put in one basket of extreme left presenters, who confuse comedy with swearing and just don't see things as the whole of America sees. No wonder they all failed in unison to bring down Trump.
There was a time when Letterman would just read what Trump had done and then follow it with a moment of silence followed by a long look at the audience. That was funny, drove home the point much better than the present hosts who just display their cussing abilities. They are smart because they can say the 'f' word so many times? They are funny because they make dick jokes with impunity? What's wrong with these guys?
I cannot believe that even Jay Leno is missed in this present toxic air of Late Night Shows.
