Bob Ross : His Missing Finger

Anyone know how he lost most of his left index finger? Someone noticed it on this vid here, you can see it right after the owl segment he slides his hand across the canvas,

He was special forces in Nam, though, I do not know for sure that he lost it there.

Bob ross lost his finger building a crib for his first son Bob in 1960.

really? thats a really sad way to lose a finger. I'll bet his son won't ever forget that.

That's interesting, considering he doesn't have a son named Bob, but named Steven who wasn't born until 1967.

Steve Ross was born in 1966.
Bob lost half of his finger whilst working as a motor engineer, this happened sometime in the mid 70s.

I think it's hilarious how many people think Bob was in Vietnam or that he saw combat.

Sorry, that is wrong. He was a USAF medical records tech first stationed in Florida, then sent to Alaska, probably 354th Medical Group Clinic, Eielson AFB at North Star Alaska near Fairbanks.

It doesn't look like he's missing a finger to me. I'm watching one of his shows right now, and I've used my TiVO to rewind it over and over again to check, and I'm pretty sure I can see it through his pallet (he's grasping the pallet almost like a "hand gun", thumb, middle, ring, and pinky fingers are holding on to the handle, and the pointer is pointing out.

Are you sure he's missing his finger? I just read a biography on the internet of him and they never mentioned it.

Bob had half of his index finger missing on his left hand. I have already said how he lost this!

According to the PBS biography that just aired, he lost the finger while working for his father as a carpenter.
