Reign : Lola? Leith?

Lola? Leith?

**Spoilers**

What did I just watch? I can't believe they are dead. Well at least we know for sure Lola is, thanks to them showing her beheaded :( Leith is still questionable. I did not expect that. I knew as soon as Lola received that coded letter that it wasn't from Mary. Codes can be decoded and Mary would never put her friend in danger like that. I feel like they just used that to bring tension between Elizabeth and Mary leading to Mary eventually wanting to assasinate Elizabeth. I'm so sad about Lola!

Re: Lola? Leith?

I'm sad too. Her storyline with her husband was pretty interesting, not to mention her son being royal made for a good story as well. I hope it was her decision to leave the show. The only interesting characters are Mary & Catherine now. They can't carry the show by themselves especially living in different countries!

Re: Lola? Leith?

Right! They love to kill off the favorites. I almost want to stop watching now but I know I'll still watch the next season because of my very few favorite remaining characters.

Re: Lola? Leith?

Really? I was so sure Lola was gonna die, I was like "ooh, so this is how they get the war started between Mary and Elizabeth" since they've been very skittish about that all season. I don't think Leith is dead though. I think there's gonna be a love triangle between Leith, Claude, and new guy. It's gonna get real angsty, actually, probably not since Reign is pretty direct about this kind of thing. For all of it's historical costumes, the old CW tropes are still in full effect.

Re: Lola? Leith?

I probably should have seen it coming but I just thought her storyline was still blossoming and it was kind of out of the blue to cut it short. I kinda hoped that Narcise or someone would come up with some big rescue plan to save Lola and save the day at the last possible minute. But that's Reign for ya.

Re: Lola? Leith?

I wasn't expecting Lola either. I knew they were going to have to trim the cast down because they have to add all these new actors in Scotland. But I figured they'd keep one of her friends around and Lola had the most relevant storyline.

Re: Lola? Leith?

Agreed. Lola and Kenna were the two ladies who easily could have been in it for the long-haul. I mean Aylee was out very early on, and Greer's story has sucked for a long time, but the other two had close connections to some of the most popular side characters (Bash and Narcisse), so I think they could have remained relevant beyond the point where the show dumped them. Especially Lola since she has Francis' only child...? But since Lola was the last of Mary's ladies, it would have been nice to see Mary keep one friend along the way. I always feel sad when Mary loses another person who's close to her.

Re: Lola? Leith?

I loved that her and Narcisse seemed to have reunited. But given Mary's move to Scotland I wondered how many of our familiar faces would make the move and still be relevant to a show that is supposed to be about Mary Queen of Scots. Greer made a sudden exit with a sudden reappearance of Castleroy. We have known for awhile now that Bash was being written out. Lola... well that was just harsh. I hope we haven't seen the last of Narcisse, and what about poor little John, mom's dead, dad's dead, step-dad is in prison, grandma is across the channel feeling none too motherly to his uncle Charles, he's basically an orphan in a hostile country. And seriously Leith? I love him and Claude together, she was such a bratty ditz but Leith brought out something special in her. And don't get me started how the show will be ruined if Catherine is gone.

I have to wonder given the conclusion of the third season what duration contracts were for and if this was a good time for them to do a huge effin round of house cleaning as far as the main cast in order to shift from France to Scotland for the next chapter in Mary's life.

Just seems to me that for as much as I love this show in spite of their dumb@$$ moves with characters of late, they are shaking up the main cast so severely that it won't even seem like the same show I fell in love with at the start.

Re: Lola? Leith?

The idea of Lola dying seemed so likely given the lead up & promos that I almost thought it was too obvious to be true. To me it was clear that something terrible was going to happen either to Lola or Leith since each of their scenes were pretty heavy-handed with foreshadowing (Claude and Leith were too happy so that means devastation is around the corner on Reign), but I did not anticipate both! I agree that Leith is likely going to recover, though. They left his scene on a cliffhanger, so that bodes well for him in my opinion. But yeah... I had a feeling about those two characters being in jeopardy, but I only anticipated so much heartbreak in one finale, and with Bash also in the mix (and knowing the actor was on his way out), I thought they might pull a major surprise in the end and actually kill him off instead of the two more obvious choices. But nooooo instead they just did a little more *Bash loves voodoo* garbage and he ran off at the first sign of hocus pocus. Gah. At least there's room for Bash to return in case that pilot does not work out!!

Re: Lola? Leith?

I think thats exactly why Bash didnt die. If anyone on this show was a fan favorite, it was him and Francis, and I think they wanted to leave the door open for him to come back for Mary's end. Especially since the whole reason he leaves to explore being a seer is so that he can help her in the future.

Re: Lola? Leith?

Bash has always been and always will be my fave and I am brokenhearted the dim witted writers took him on a path that's far fetched. Why could he not have just told Mary he got a letter from Kenna who needs him and go off to fetch her. Mary needs at least one of her original ladies. Nostradamus will probably reappear sometimes. I'm so annoyed at them. I will continue to watch but not with much enthusiasm as before. I do have 3 seasons however to enjoy his adorable face. He could have very well guarded Mary. As for Leith, he might not be dead. Look at Bash---severely wounded TWICE in the same side. He lived through it. So maybe Leith will live but he was never gonna marry Claude anyway. She eventually marries the Duke of Lorraine. Leith is unlucky in love like Bash

Re: Lola? Leith?

Well she did willingly participate in an assasination attempt on a Queen. Sorry to see her go, but it was a dramatic end for her.

Re: Lola? Leith?

Lola used to work on my nerves big time in some of the former seasons, but I do have to say that I had finally warmed back up to her with this Elizabeth storyline, so this episode was a tough one for me. Maybe this is stupid, but I'm just sort of ticked off that every one of Mary's ladies has now been written off in one way or another, and many of their exits were shockingly abrupt. These characters were a huge part of the show for the bulk of seasons 1 & 2, so to see all of that development evaporate (along with Bash too!) is really disappointing... like what was the point of making their friendship with Mary so prominent just to ditch them all with such unsatisfying endings? Did they just want rid of the actresses or what? Because I think it would be have so easy to carry some of their stories into this new phase of the show since they are all Scottish and could have gone back to their home country once Mary made her move.

I have always enjoyed watching Reign, but it is frustrating to see every plot/character that I get invested in just crash and burn over and over again. I'll be curious to see how successful Mary/Adelaide will be in carrying off the next season without a bit of the ensemble cast that she started out with... as it stands right now, I'm not overly interested in watching Mary with a whole new lot of characters. I don't enjoy John Knox so far, her brother James leaves a lot to be desired as of right now, so unless Gideon sticks around for longer than expected, her scenes might be a bit of a snoozefest in the coming season. Same goes for Elizabeth - she bored the heck out of me until Lola came onto the scene, so I have a bad feeling that the England scenes will be lackluster now. Although if Narcisse gets a decent enough revenge plot, that will help things immensely. That actor is straight up fire.

Re: Lola? Leith?

I'm hoping that Narcisse come back next season, him being in prison could mean the end for his character on the show. I agree he's the best actor on the show.

Re: Lola? Leith?

I quit liking Lola a long time ago. While her death was sad, the character was annoying and very naive. She knew Mary, Mary would never ask her to murder Elizabeth. So peace out idiot.
I feel for Leith; he was a victim of a jealous man. I'm curious to see if it sticks or not.

Re: Lola? Leith?

At first I didn't like Leith because he was trying to be with Greer, who should be with Lord Pepper.

His relationship with Greer was too teen drama and falling in love in an instant kind of nonsense, almost no effort or hard work.

But Leith's relationship with the Princess, on the other hand, I was 100% behind it because they really put a lot of effort into it, he knew his place, he didn't want her to trade down, but he made great efforts to be beyond his past life and be more of himself, as others had pointed out, the moment they were really happy together, I knew they were going to be *beep*

This show was my escapism from Game of Thrones, I need several happy endings, not just one (Greer and Lord Pepper).

I hope in Season 4, Claude and Leith marry (historical Claude was married to a Duke, maybe that duke was Leith :) )

Re: Lola? Leith?

i cried SO HARD, I couldnt handle the episode. My boyfriend couldnt stop laughing at me.
I was just sobbing, and i kept saying 'bash better use some of that bloody magic and bring her back, i dont care how.'

Like i dont want to believe it, oh my god, And leith and claude just getting engaged. AND SHE DOESNT EVEN KNOWWWW.

Re: Lola? Leith?

When Lola got the letter that quite obviously wasn't from Mary, I thought she would "disobey" in the end, because she's so nice and everything. I was a little disappointed and surprised that she went through it.

However, I couldn't believe that Lola would actually be beheaded. I was so sure that something would change at the last second and it wouldn't actually happen. It was really disturbing to see her neck after that, I couldn't believe it and I thought maybe it was some kind of really smart trick and she's actually alive somehow. Maybe I'm just hoping this because it's so sad and the scene and that image in my head still kind of troubles me.

At least the episode wasn't boring and it was emotional, which is good, I guess...
