What has she particularly done for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender issues?

Also, what is she referring to when she speaks of standing up to Trump's brownshirts and 'bots'? Bots? Who or what are the bots? Does Trump now have to bots working for him? Strange, I was led to believe that he and his administration were scientifically-illiterate.

Also, maybe Streep should refrain from speeches for a long while. She admits that it isn't helpful to make it about them and us, and then proceeds to make it about them and us. Also, she admits her football 'joke' from the Golden Globes fell flat, and yet she still hasn't learned to STFU.

I am a fan football and especially MMA. I am not so thin skinned to think it was meant to demean those two sports. It meant that without The Arts, that's all we'll be left with, metaphorically.

MMA by its very definition is derived from various cultures, and American Football is far more diverse and has a far greater ethnic balance than Hollywood, which has only started recognising that black people exist within the last fifteen years or so.

Even if Streep's comments had not been so condescending, they'd be incorrect in their assumptions. Acting is a far more elitist and whitebread profession than MMA or American Football, and I say that as a film fan who, unlike you, doesn't even particularly care for American Football or MMA as spectator sports.

I must admit, when Crown-Prince said MMA was the gayest sport ever, I didn't see that as a pejorative thing. Then again, I suppose it depends where he was coming from. If he's a homophobe, he'd most likely use that word in a demeaning sense. From my perspective, 'gay' is neither negative nor positive. I love a lot of musical theatre, and I think it's quite fair to say it's seen as pretty 'gay' (as a predominantly straight person I have absolutely no problem with that - I think it's something to be embraced).

With respect to to that statement, I see nothing that indicates that Streep has done anymore for the LGBT community than you or I, other than being famous. I'm not sure why she deserves another award for that.

Besides, I can knly think of one role where she played a LGBT character, Silkwood (a very good film and performance, I must admit), but even if she has played gay characters elsewhere, shouldn't Hollywood be endeavouring to cast more members of the LGBT community in their films.

If it was down to me, I'd be championing more LGBT diversity in film and TV, rather than depriving LGBT performers of roles. Where's my frickin award for making that statement?
