I think we're more confused and misinformed than at any point in history. being tugged in a million different directions. don't know what information is credible and not anymore. so I think that confusion leads people to be more susceptible to hyperbole like the example you provided, op. people always tend to think they're living in the end times though. that's nothing new. i'm 35, and I think in every single election i'm old enough to remember, the losing side has accused the winner of being "literally the antichrist" or "literally hitler". the only difference is, this is the first time I've really seen the news media indulging in it as well, as if to fan the flames. that bothers me.
