Tomorrowland : Hair does not have DNA
Re: Hair does not have DNA
While it's true that there is no nuclear DNA in the shaft of the hair there are often some type of remnant cells that do contain it. Perhaps it can't be done in all cases but forensic scientists have extracted DNA from cut hairs. It's conceivable that the vastly superior technology of the movie can do this with much more successfully.
Re: Hair does not have DNA
I does have DNA, don't you ever watch those crime forensic shows where the perp leaves behind a hair strand and is implicated in the crime?
Re: Hair does not have DNA
The point was the root of the hair strand is where the cell is located. She scanned the center of the strand, not the end where the cell was.
Re: Hair does not have DNA
Hair doesn't have DNA except at the root. OK, also the sky is not blue except for the blue parts of the sky.
Re: Hair does not have DNA
The base/follicle of a piece of hair contains DNA, but you'd need to pluck it off its root. You wouldn't, for instance, be able to get DNA from the hair found in a barber shop/hairdressers, but hair that has naturally shed is often used by forensic scientists in obtaining crime scene DNA.
An entire strand of hair does contain DNA, but if Athena simply used the middle of Casey's hair rather than plucking a hair from its root, you're right to point out the film's flaw.

Re: Hair does not have DNA
The people who invented a way to move between dimensions also invented a way to extract DNA from a strand of hair.

Thank you.

Re: Hair does not have DNA
Actually, although the hair follicle contains the complete DNA sequence, the hair itself does contain mitochondrial DNA, which can be used for identification.
Re: Hair does not have DNA
I thought I'd heard every form of protein-myth out there. Goes to show, ignorance is infinite. Every living cell is made of protein (and a bunch of other things; including DNA). Protein is simply PROPPED up in importance; as in propaganda to make meat-eating seem important).

Re: Hair does not have DNA
Hair most certainly does have a persons DNA within it. You are incorrect.
Re: Hair does not have DNA
Apparently, google hasn't yet opened a location near where achun lives.
Hair pulled from the body does contain DNA, derp.

u retard or something it does have DNA, do some advanced study u dumbass
Re: Hair does not have DNA
Wow, you must be fun to be around.
Re: Hair does not have DNA
Hair shafts DO contain mitochondrial DNA, but not nuclear DNA.

Re: Hair does not have DNA
Thats true, but if its pulled from the root and takes some skin with it which it does most of the time, then there is your DNA.

Re: Hair does not have DNA
So in fact hair does have DNA, seems to me you are splitting hairs with yer title.
Hair does not have DNA
Yes, it's a truly geeky complaint. I actually love this movie.
