A few min ago ON MSNBC a CONGRESSMAN said a SHRINK told him that TRUMP is SERIOULSY MENTALLY ILL,

and they discussed a LAW being passed,

in order to ENSURE the safety of the COUNTRY,

by forcing there to be a way that someone can to do something about it.

Kind of ballsy for the doctor to make a diagnosis without seeing a patient.

Trump's got some pretty visible symptoms.

1) He lacks self control.

2) Very thin skin, easily bruised ego.

3) Needs adoration and attention from everyone.

4) Narcissist.

He's a classic case of a kid who's spoiled but never given enough love. Seen a lot of examples, they feel entitled but lonely and desperate for attention. Funny actually because Trump's very similar to Kim Jung Un, if Trump was the leader of a dictatorship I'm sure he'll execute people left and right. Lucky the US has checks and balances.

If he could, he'd probably also ERECT a HUGE STATUE of himself like the BRAT in NORTH KOREA did, and then FORCE US to worship it.

The QUESTION is will the LAW that this CONGRESSMAN says they hope to PASS be able to FORCE him into having an EVALUATION done where someone would finally be able to DIAGNOSE him.

An actual Psychiatrist would not make such a diagnosis without actually seeing Trump as a patient first.

It's extremely unethical and calls into question their credentials.

In most states it's a violation of their licensing law for a physician to give a diagnosis without giving the patient a physical exam. That would include a psychiatrist actually seeing a patient. But it is MSNBC, after all.

Nothing wrong with a psychiatrist saying "this sounds like this or that" while making clear that they have not evaluated the person and cannot render a professional diagnosis.

They have first amend rights just like anyone else.

They all say that in the beginning of their statements. However, Trump called himself a 'productive narcissist' and 'paranoid'. This is what the glorious leader says about himself. And that goes to more a moral argument, which is fine. But the poster was talking about " licensing law for a physician." Would you have a problem if some physician said "from what I read sounds like Carrie Fisher had a heart attack"?

If a medic has declared Carrie Fisher to have died from a heart attack, I'm not sure why it would be controversial for anyone, including a physician who has never personally examined her, to make such a statement.

Plus, and it's a side point, I don't think a heart condition is as stigmatising as a mental illness.

So you don't like the diagnosis thrown around, and that is a fine place to sit. And you can disagree with every psychiatrist who does so.but then have a problem with what lots of people say. And again, this one came second-hand rather than in the psych pros own words.

And if it was just his opinion rather than clinical diagnosis, then still figure it is right to bring it. As is yours to not like it was.

Mental disorder doesn't equal mental disorder. Somebody with your personality structure would feel guilty even knowing that nuclear weapons exist. You would come and ask us how we think and feel about it.

Trump's structure, OTOH, is one that made him ask a specialist on nuclear weapons three times within one hour why the US couldn't use nukes if it had them.

You- and most psychiatric patients - are not in the same category as he is. From what I and many others see so far, he is dangerous to others and thus, in the end, to himself. You are somebody who isn't dangerous to anybody, maybe only yourself, because you are tortured by conscience. Trump apparently or seemingly has no conscience. That is a big difference between people, especially since conscience is one of the things that separate humans from less intelligent species.

But I'm still concerned that most people who say Trump is mentally ill can't make a distinction, or fail to sufficiently acknowledge the distinction, between different types of mental disorders.

For what it's worth, I think Trump has a personality disorder and is a likely psychopath, but that's a specific type of disorder and not representative of most mental illnesses.

I think if we're all going to bandy about terms like 'mentally ill', we need to be very careful about the way we elaborate on this. To do otherwise is plain irresponsible.

Well, in the US armed forces we have been doing telemedicine for decades. On the other hand, diagnostic and treatment discussions via video link usually involve laboratory/radiological/etc. analyses and physical assessment of patients by qualified medical personnel (e.g., physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners). I am unaware of any validated studies that rely on uncontrolled video "evidence" to make therapeutic decisions based entirely on behavior.
