Rod Serling : Rod Serling story?

Rod Serling story?

When I was in middle school (twenty years ago) we read a story I swear was written by Rod Serling. It seems like I remeber it being writtn in screenplay format, but as far as I can tell it is not a Twilight Zone episode, and I'm not sure if it's anything else.

The story was about a family living in the future. They had a little boy who was very inquisitive and smart. He was always asking questions and wanting to know how things worked.

The boy was going to take a test, and he was very excited because he wanted to do well on it. It turns out that the government does not want any people to be too smart, and they eliminate anyone who does too well on the test.

The parents are worried that the son is too smart and will be eliminated by the government.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Re: Rod Serling story?

The tale you describe seems somewhat similar to the short story Harrison Bergeron, by Kurt Vonnegut. As the link below details, it has been the inspiration for many other similar stories. Perhaps if not this story, then maybe the one you recall was one which was insprired by it.
