Red Widow : Compared to the original… (spoilers of first 2 epi's - some)

Compared to the original… (spoilers of first 2 epi's - some)

I am a huge fan of the original Dutch Series Penoza, and am very curious about how the US remake is going to pan out. Disappointed to see all the negative reactions on the Red Widow version, I watched the two first episodes of Red Widow. While watching I realized a couple of things. First the US version, as expected, looks beautiful, very slick and professional. All the characters / actors have that Hollywood perfectness to them (well almost all of them), perfect lighting. Penoza does not, the characters in that series are middle-aged with beer bellies and looking like 'regular joes and janes'. The setting of the Dutch version is much grittier and more to the point, no Bob with his motor cycle, no sight of Schiller in the first two episodes (it is has been two years since I've seen the entire first season - to compare I did watch the first 2 episodes of the Dutch version). Evan (Frans in the Dutch version) Does not die immediately He regains consciousness and dies later that night/early in the morning with his kids by his side. No detective / FBI agent with an addicted wife/girlfriend.

The part of Carmen (Marta in the US version) is one that develops over time. Her background is a criminal family and she does not came out smelling like roses. This chick knows her business (in the Dutch version) and is not some frail, dumb, blonde. But she's a family woman now and her kids come first to keep their family (or what's left of it) safe ,she has no choice to clean up the mess her husband got in.

As for now I have to conclude that the Dutch version is more realistically filmed and more character oriented. And thus in my opinion of better quality (but I could change my mind further on). Think the part of Luther for Luke Goss is an excellent choice, think he captures the original character pretty well. Do not like the choice for Marta alot. Our Carmen is a beautiful actress (and extremely talented) but not in the same sense, more tangible real Not Hollywood beautiful.
I've enjoyed the two episodes of Red Widow But it cannot be compared to the Dutch version. Funny to see that some lines and situations are an exact copy and others are totally different or new to the story.

Wait and see how this turns out Hope it picks up in ratings (both viewers and on here)

Cheers,
Alex

In Red Widow there seems to be history/tension between Marta and Luther Does that ever get developed in Penoza or is it just my imagination?
